Kinhank Hyperspin Review (400 systems! 100k Games! One Major Flaw!)

- In this video I review the gigantic 12TB Kinhank Hyperspin Attraction external hard drive. This thing is absolutely loaded with retro games spanning the entire history of video gaming, and for the most part they work pretty well. As great as this collection is though, this device isn't without it's flaws. As you'll see, some of the systems work better than others when you get to the more powerful ones. There is also one major flaw that may make you decide not to buy this.
If you're interested in getting one of these for yourself, they can be found here:

It's a good source of Roms. I use these roms to build my own systems. Saves me months of work
You can do this, pull the roms and use elsewhere, are there different types of roms with or without music and quality non quality low resolution?
I got one simply because the websites are being attacked at an unprecedented rate. Making files from your own games takes so much time. I personally like to have a slim build with only the games I'm likely to play.
All of the emulators are two years old, I just upgraded them and now the games play way better. You might need to upgrade the module on some too. I added more games and also added Vita, PSN and Xbox Live to the wheel.
Oh that’s great to know! Is there an easy way to tell it to look for updates?
@@AllGamesNewandOldThey have to be done manually. Sometimes it breaks things like games won’t work or it will start in the background and you’ll have to troubleshoot. With the dolphin emulator I had to also update the module. You can also change out emulators win rocketlaucher.
just a question, how to update modules?
@@GiacomBono There is a module or modules folder somewhere in the rocketlaucher folder. Just get the latest module for that console and drop it in there.
All the emulators are 2 years old because as you know this HDD's front end and backend content was taken from a free release called Hyperspin attraction II (from arcade punks)that was over 2 years in the making. What you get in this HDD is out of date code, emulators, modules, plug ins and mismatched media. To say it is painful on the eyes would be an understatement. Though the main build is from elsewhere I wouldnt recommend going to the HA II teams discord because as mysteriozone found out as soon as they realise you are running this junk thrown together, support for any issues likely created by the stuff kinhank has screwed up will cease immediately and you will be left to figure it all out by yourself
You can turn off the crazy sounds when navigating HyperSpin by toggling it off in HyperHQ. You can also change the crazy screen transitions in the same menu too.
Some of the none working games could be due to Drive letter paths. HyperSpin (depending on setup) doesn't use relative paths.
Oh that’s excellent. I’ll have to look into that.
I had a problem when updating, it caused a system crash so I just moved the files to another HD and loaded it on Big box now it runs perfectly without all the oversaturated collections and duplicate files that didn't boot
I have one too. I took it out of the external enclosure and put it in a Aoostar R7. Hooked up to CRT with DisplayPort to VGA adapter. Super awesome. the stutter is from it being a hdd.
Oh wow! That’s cool!
I just got mine - is it easy to remove some of the random favorite wheels? I want to create my own favs but that is another can of worms!
I had pinball issues, and they fixed it for me remotely. Yes very good customer service
Awesome! I still need to go in and do that.
So noticed you had Folklore for ps3 on this drive was that something you added or was it on the drive when you got it? asking as I love that game
I had to add it. I’m not too into most modern sports games so I deleted a bunch of those to make space and added games like folklore and some other RPGs.
@@AllGamesNewandOld thanks for the reply and same I'm not into most sports game mostly the realistic sports games
Do you know how to change controller settings or at least see the configuration for a particular game?
I think what you have to do is go into each individual emulator and do it there. A lot of the older systems are though Retroarch, Switxh is through Yuzu. I’d have to look to see what some of the others are.
@@AllGamesNewandOld I was able to fix Star Wars Battle Pod through the emulator after seeing the rest of your video. Thanks! It would be great if Kinhank had more videos like they did for their console X.
Emulation is the way to go.
I agree. I’d love to hook up all my actual consoles and what not, but I don’t have room for them or the collections that go with them.
Not sure if you mentioned that you have to change your drive letter for some systems to work.
Weirdly I haven’t run into that issue. Everything has worked so far regardless of the drive.
What letter? I used d: but can see i: referred to in Cemu for some reason, Cemu not working at all
@@cambike it should’ve been in the instructions. One I bought was J, another one was G.
Did you fix the arcade pinball? I got the settings.dat file... just don't know where to put the file. Any thoughts?
I’m not sure. I haven’t dug around in there yet. Where’d you get the file from?
@@AllGamesNewandOld So i did a scan and found viruses in the Technoparrot folders. Requested a replacement and the people that sold it through amazon messaged me and sent me a settings.dat file. I juat have no clue where to place it.. And like you said its from china so who's to say the person didn't send me another virus to install :P but if you figure out the locations of these .dat files let me know. Or if you need the file let me know I can email you.
@@jamesb9578 Teknoparrot always gives false positives in your antivirus. Ive always ran into that issue. Just add exceptions
@@jamesb9578 HI James. Did You get the Arcade Pinball solved? I get the same "Cannot find settings.dat" issue as in the video.
@@lenniskovgaard8278 yes... I think.... They sent me a setting.dat file. so I placed it in what I thought was the folder.... Pinball Arcade.... it "didn't work" so I started the program from the folder within the HDD.... Once I started it up played a few games through the exe file. it then worked.... So try opening it through the actual file folder. then see if it works in HSA.
Do you have any idea as to why the simplest of games, such as 1943, have a small lag in gameplay and audio stutter?
it could be the fact that its on a hard drive instead of a ssd
@@ployth9000 possibly. Kinhank customer services doesn't even respond. Looks like I just purchased a 12TB hard drive, because I'm close to just formatting it and use it for storage.
I figured out how to eliminate the annoying sounds while scrolling through games. Just push I left joystick, menu will pop up and scroll down to sounds.
A search function would be good
There might be one. I’ll have to look into it.
@@AllGamesNewandOldit's before the 19XX's and after the Z's on the system wheel. You can select "All Games", push down on the left stick, and search by name. Also, you can press Y once you've landed on any game and save it to favorites. It also has a section for recently played.
Tried playing switch with Xbox controller but it won't respond to buttons. Do you know a way of fixing that?
Yeah I actually talk about it at some point in the video. You need to go to the files on the drive. Go to arcade, then emulators I think. Might be collections before emulators but I’m not sure. Then go down to Yuzu and start that up. There should be a place to program your controller buttons. When you go in it will look like it’s already right but you still have to go through every button and program it in. It only takes a few minutes.
How do you back up something as big as this? What if it fails later?
i bought a 12tb drive fitted into pc and copied everything to it then put this away in safe place
you can by from other companies like retrobeast or hyperarcade if your drive fails they will send you a replacement or you can just download a cloud version if you don't want physical
Awesome this is the reason I’m getting one cause I don’t have a desktop but I have a laptop A lot of games & add more wow also, you can use a game sir controller compatible👍🏽
Yeah it works great on my laptop.
@AllGamesNewandOld right
can i play this on my dell pentium ispiron 560 , windows 11, its about 11 years old ,, ???
Scanned my whole computer and drive no viruses. I have not got a powerful laptop and can play up to PS2. I have no issues with these games.
which anti-virus program did you use, if you don't mind saying?
The only thing I like about these builds is that it is hard to get games for the disk based systems because they are so big, hard to rip, takes so long to download. The older smaller stuff is easy for anyone to get. I haven't seen a build with Vita on it.
Yeah I haven’t either actually and I know it can be emulated. Not sure why.
I have a spare HDD with windows 10 Spectre version installed on , i play lots of suspect game files installed on it , anti virus is non existent and i only go online to download needed files , i don't do any online banking or other critical stuff and just pull the network plug when i play games and boot up the system .
Sounds like a good setup.
I was wondering what fightsticks would work with this 🤔
Good question! I imagine as long as windows recognizes it it would work. Though I’m not sure.
Does it have clone hero or YARG
I wonder if there is a youtube channel or something dedicated to hyperspin; I'm trying to add Java games and it isn't easy.
Hmmm I’m not sure. I haven’t tried messing with Java games yet.
are the following games on this thing?
Nintendo 3ds: Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam
GameCube: Starfox Adventures, Starfox Assault, Metroid Prime 2 Echoes, Luigi's Mansion
Nintendo WII: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Metroid Other M, Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles
Playstation 3: God of War 3, God of War: Ascension. Transformers: War for Cybertron
Playstation 2: Onimusha 1,2, and 3, Spy Hunter, Castlevania Lament of Innocence, Castlevania Curse of Darkness
Xbox: Area 51, Mace Griffion Bounty Hunter
PSP: God of War Chains of Olympus, God of War Ghost of Sparta
Your antivirus software detected viruses through PC GAMES, not your console games. Let me make that clear. It's the PC games that have cracks that might fill with malware or trojans.
These aren't actually viruses. Most of the time it's false positives exe files to run the game that virus checkers find.
Yeah could well be. It was quite a long search so I didn’t see where it was when it found the issues.
Anyone here able help with Cemu not launching? Can’t seem to get any games to run for Switch or WiiU. Thanks
Oh weird. I didn’t have that issue. Their customer service might be able to help.
This is the best hard drive on earth
money you can buy. Out the box its pretty good and most stuff works including the pinball stuff. However this is some stuff you need to add and or adjust to make it better. The art files alone and mame Roms make this drive worth the price and si much More…
Yup. Just buying a blank external drive is similarly priced.
Some amazon reviews state that this drive has some nasty trojans on it
I give it a ten
Let's GO !!!!
Yeah!
sometimes when it's looking for a file it is because your virus software has misflagged it.
Very true. The pinball one was like that from the beginning though.
There are a lot of games which is great however a lot are just rom dumps two systems in particular that you will have problems with are going to be the xbox 360 and the Vita the emulators for these are still very new and the list of fully working games are still quite low. I think your issue with the Xbox games comes from having a very old version of the emulator as there a lot of playable games for that one far more than the Xbox 360. I bought one of these drives not the hyperspin one out of interest and to dump the roms off it into my own 6TB Retrobat setup and yes there were a lot of actual duplicates I'm not referring to the same game for multiple systems I don't have an issue with that also after virus scanning the files my system quarantined were the crack files for the "PS4" & "PS5" games these turned out to be false negatives although yours sounds worrying with it finding trojans. With a little time and effort you can setup your own system here's what mine looks like th-cam.com/video/j454mKdDxXk/w-d-xo.html
That sounds awesome! I’ll have to check it out tonight!
@@AllGamesNewandOld Many hours went into it and it would have been even longer if I'd not bought the 5TB MX drive and ripped off the Roms I wanted.
I’ve brought this and a thousand times better
Then the arcadesystems who tell you that you need to have your firewell off that also need to take your virus off,
Just full of bugs and asked for like 500 quid for a 16tb hard drive which is a pile of shit
Looks like there are a lot of duplicates there.
Yeah there are. That doesn’t bother me too much. I can remove them when I need space for something else.
Xbox System is Ps2 on it that sucks..
It seems like it might be that in some cases. But Blood Wake is playable and that’s an XBOX exclusive.
anyone willing to make img / rar and share?
These are seriously a crap shoot on who puts them together I've got them that's worked perfect my last one I got which I just got for the files anyway the Xbox doesn't run. Xbox 360 doesn't run All the emulators are so out of date and if you try to update them it kills the system they have all developer all everything locked on it it's stupid The dolphin emulator was installed in Chinese I had to use Google translate just to change my control key if you want it for the files great, if you want it for plug and play you got a 50-50 shot
u have the exact same problems as me just a nightmare so far. i cant even open most games im playn with a beelink ser 5 mini pc thats plenty capable
i didnt see ps1 ,or i dont remember
Ps1 should be there. I bought the earlier hyper spin not attract Kinhank 12tb and it had ps1. Also watched another vid saying they had full collection of us and Japanese ps1 games.
No way in hell im not playing games i dont own if i paid for them idc what anybody thinks. Also screw nintendo theres screwing with everybody else so who cares.
I’m not telling anyone else what to do. It’s just my preference.
