The reason storm 3 didn't encompass the entire story was because at the time, the story was not over. The manga didn't end till a few years later, and it would have been weirder to end the story in the middle of the Juubi fight, which was the longest stretch of the war arc.
The manga ended in 2014 3 came out in 2013

@@schemar17 Storm came out early 2013 in March and the manga ended later in 2014. The Juubi arc started around 610 and the manga ended on 700, so at minimum 90 weeks not counting hiatus weeks, yeah, still a lot of time. Storm 3 was in development for a lot longer though, having started shortly after they released Revolution. The timing was just really awkward I feel, but if they'd had to wait much longer, they wouldn't have had storm 3 till much later, which may have killed momentum, which is why I feel they went ahead.
That and the sheer length of the Juubi arc of the war
@@canttameme1637 While it is true, I remember that when Storm 3 was released, Madara had not appeared in the anime, the same with Kaguya in Storm 4.
Getting to play the Itachi vs Sasuke fight as a like a 13 year old kid in ultimate ninja storm 2 is still vividly one of the most thrilling moments I've had playing video games. The QTE battle to end it is absolutely perfect.

Storm 2 is goated with its boss fights. I really liked generations for gameplay tbh even though it was so cheesy
It doesn't end with a qte tho. It ends with sasuke crawling on the floor as Itachi slowly approaches him, before tapping his head.
I will still always miss the fully open world exploration of Storm 1. Being able to explorer and traverse the entire village with no real restrictions just made the world feel so much more alive, compared to having locked-down linear paths. Storm 2 and onwards felt like steps backwards considering what the "net-gen" games should have been in terms of the way the world was explored. If there ever was to be one giant game to cover the entirety of the Naruto story from beginning to end, it would be an absolute *must* for the entire world to be openly explorable (even if the villages themselves require some loading upon entering of leaving)
I think, with modern gaming engines, a full implementation of the Naruto world could definitely be possible. It's just a matter of actually giving a team the time and budget to do something like that
I'd be interested in a Naruto game with Nier Automata's sandbox but the combat is like Bayonetta with Substitution Jutsu working like Bat Within but depending on who you play as, you get different benefits from using Substitution such as Naruto counters with a Shadow clone that can do a punch or if you've unlocked it, Rasengan based on button press, Sasuke gets something similar to Witch Time to simulate how Sharingan allows him to read enemy movements, Sakura gets to charge in with a Inner Sakura-powered punch, and Kakashi uses his dogs to counter. Naruto could have a Nine Tailed and at the end of Part 1, a One-Tail Mode that function similar to Devil and Sin Devil Trigger from DMC5 respectively, with Sasuke's Curse Marks working similarly. Kakashi's Sharingan could work similarly to Bayonetta's Umbran Climax and allow and change his combos to incorporate Copied Jutsus such as Water Dragon Jutsu, incorporate Lightning Blade, and if we can break canon, give him Kamui early so he can do combos where he can draw enemies back to him. Though if they did this, they'd probably have to make Part 1 and 2 seperate games.
Idk how anyone could think NS1's hub world fun.
It's cool for the first 10-20 min, but after that it was boring as fuck.
The only Naruto games that had a fun free roam world imo is Rise of a Ninja and Broken Bond

Storm 4 was the peak of Naruto games for me, I was known as THE WEEB kid in my class but if there's one thing that even a normie knows about anime, its Naruto I'll never forget that one moment during 2nd break when I had almost half the class watching me play Naruto VS Sasuke's last fight in the story mode cause this game was JUST THAT HYPE when it comes to animation and presentation

The whole reason it was changed to the 4 bar method was because people would just endlessly spam substitution jutsu in Online Battles. It was a serious problem. This was the game changer that made Storm 4 able to work in some competitive scenes.
100%. That was a wild take by him lmao. But in his defense, I think he's mostly referring to PVE and not the competitive benefits it has for PVP.
For me Storm 1 will remain the most Unique one from the series, my reasons: Intro of characters before the encounter, unique jutsus that didn't came back to the other Storm games, longer and diverse movesets for almost any character, Awakenings in Storm 1 have also Ultimate Jutsus, Jutsus Clashes and Wall Fighting... and I can go on and on to state it why Storm 1 gameplay was the most unique one from the Storm Series, just try to Imagine Storm 4 gameplay with Storm 1 gameplay features, In my opinion that will be the Perfect Storm game. I wish that Storm 5 will have more anime vibe and dynamic details like Storm 1.☯️✌

About the Armor Break mechanic in Storm 4: In addition to some characters’ outfits becoming damaged and changing, when a character is affected by the Armor Break status, their attack power increases slightly in exchange for lower defense power. You basically do more damage but also take more damage.
I've seen a couple of people say this and I definitely believe it, but I'm wondering: Does the game tell you this anywhere or did people just figure it out?
@@Niosai The mechanic is mentioned within the Story Mode tutorial, but it’s referred to as Costume Damage rather than Armor Break. You can access it by going into Story Mode > Tutorial > Battle > Guide to Victory: 30.
“Guide to Victory: 30 - Costume Damage
If you take a certain amount of damage during battle, your costume will become damaged or tarnished. In this state, you take more damage, but your attack power also increases a little. Closely study both you and your opponent’s conditions while battling.”

I was super shocked to hear your take on the substitution system changing up. As an OG player of Ninja Storm 2 online, it was impossible for anyone to pull off any combos because we all just spammed subs since there was no consequence to mashing the shoulder button other than a tiny amount of chakra being used. The revamp of limited uses for subs was a breath of fresh air in Generations and games moving forward.

I think my opinion was definitely affected by only being able to play against CPU opponents. I never got to really test out the balance against real opponents, so that may have skewed my overall experience 😅
I was genuinely baffled. I have no idea how anyone can prefer the old, "timing-based" sub system - you can never land any combos because as long as the opponent has even a slight amount of chakra, they can escape. I genuinely feel like using them had less to do with timing and more to do with luck. With the new resource-based system, fights have an ebb-and-flow as you try to whittle down your opponent's reserves. Once they're low, you can go in and be aggressive, because your combos are guaranteed to fully connect for a large amount of damage, and can even be extended with cancels. If you're at a subs disadvantage, though, you can still use your opponent's confidence and counterattack with proper spacing and a cautious play-style.
He never got to play online or he would have seen the issues with the old system. Granted, the new system was and still is problematic too even if not as much. As he says, the game comes down to guessing when your opponent will sub in order to punish it. It doesnt allow for full combos unless they have depleted their gage, and even if they have the best players know how to camp long enough and punish overly aggressive play until they replenish. The game is still very turtle heavy, just with moments inbetween of actual engagement. In general, you should not be alloweed to just press a button and escape a combo 4 times in a fighting game then get them back later and do it 4 more times. Combo breakers should be last resorts, something you get 1 or 2 of in a match max that used strategically or in a pinch can give you a second chance. Many games dont even have combo breakers, and i actually prefer that, but its acceptable as previously mentioned.
Yeah if it wasn't for those mind games with limited subs, the games would just be a button mash festival.
Man the first Ultimate Ninja Storm game is 14 years old but graphically speaking you could never tell, it looks beautiful in this video

Graphical fidelity and polygon count have increased exponentially since the early 2000s, games just did a much better job at hiding it back then. Let's look at 2 games of the same franchise that released in the 2000s and compare them to modern releases. Ultimate Spider-Man and Devil May Cry 3, both on the PS2, compared to Spider-Man 2 on the PS5 and Devil May Cry 5. It's very evident that the level of graphical fidelity possible is *much* higher. Graphical style is much more important than general fidelity, but my point is that claiming that graphics haven't progressed much in 20 years is just plain ignorant.
@@765craven4 They havent visually progressed much. Add a trillion Polygons if you want to, VISUALLY it doesnt make much difference. Comparing the 70's to the late 90's show a much larger scale of VISUAL progression than if you were compare 2006 to 2022.
So i grew up playing these games in high school and played the online modes at the height of their prime, I can tell you without a doubt that the SUBSTITUTION LIMIT bar was ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. There were people online who would only stand still hold block and spam substitution, and hit you once until they slowly killed you. That's why they put the bar up, because people were exploiting this online. It actually fixed multiplayer battles.
I spammed storm 2 multiplayer and never really ran into that, just ran into a lot of might guy awakening abusers
Having friends over and playing storm 2 and 3 on my PS3 are some of my fondest memories of my high school life. The insanity that happened while playing was bonkers. Thank you for this video!
Ultimate Ninja Storm 1 holds a special place in my heart. During quarantine I completed the story mode 100% (did the same thing is Storm 4) by getting all the collectibles and S rank on all the story missions. One thing I loved doing was dashing around the hub world finding secrets and side missions. All the little details like the character specific dialogue and being able to select awakened characters at the start of battle (after beating the game) added up to create a charming fun story experience. The cinematic ultimate attack cutscenes can be lengthy but I prefer them over the shortened ones in later games because they just look so cool. This game will always have a special place in my heart. The only thing I wish was in the game was online mode because the replayability for me after finishing 100% dramatically decreased due to no online multiplayer. Regardless I feel like Storm 1 has so many cool features and details that later Storm games don’t have. I’ll forever love Storm 1.

Storm 1 was visually the most beautiful, love running on the walls, and loved pressing the buttons super quick to do ultimate jutsu rather than the later ones where it just happens

These games were my absolute JAM for a few years, used to battle my friends all the time. My clearest memory though, is how hard some of the QTE mashing segments were in 2/3. One night whilst trying to battle Sasuke's chidori at 1am, my father wondered why I was still up and I sheepishly had to ask him to beat it for me.
Something i loved about Storm 2 that was a nice callback to UN4, is that during the Pen Pal side things to increase character affections, you can actually get a letter from Aoi from the beginning of UN4. So, it's nice to see that to show that its Ultimate Ninja Canon. Also, just gotta say, when it comes to the Generations story mode animated cutscenes, I LOVE Killer Bee's, he's one of my favorite characters ever cuz of his rapping rhythm and rhyme way of talking, and i love how his cutscenes are him rapping about the next guy he fights in his story, and after he beats them, they become beat up background dancers for his Rap Tour
I don't know if he saw this in his playthrough of storm 2. There are special events with the letter system that let you get contacted by the main support chatacters from the filler arcs in UN4, UN Heroes 2 and 3. Which I thought was really cool because I fell in love with all three. Really well written characters for non Canon Naruto.
Ultimate ninja storm 2 and 3 also had actual team ultimates, However it only worked with specific characters like Sasuke, Itachi, Or Itachi and I think Shisui? Etc.
Good video. I just wanted to mention that General Store Bandai was in Storm 2, and in both Storm 2 and 4, it has a physical store you can enter and shop in during both the story/adventure depending on which game you're playing, and a physical store in Boruto's tale that you can enter and shop in.

Generations is my favorite Storm game. For both its gameplay and its story mode. It has exactly what I want in a story mode. Cutscenes and fights, straight to the point. None of that free roam bs. Save that for the extra/side modes like UN3 and UNS4 did.
I think it definitely has a great way of telling the story
I honestly don't like that almost all the scenes are just static images from the anime.
I loved that and it was explaining everything perfectly to I’d always replay the stories.
Quick note, the cutscenes at the end of Storm 3 (and onwords) battles occur after *any* ultimate jutsu that will end up killing the enemy. Basically, if you see "Ultimate Jutsu Finish Chance!" and you land it, you'll get the cutscene.

Wow, you and I have opposite opinions on Generations substitutions. I LOVE that it's a mind-game, rather than who can spam the sub button faster. My friend and I got so good at subbing in Storm 2 that every single combo was preceded by each of us subbing 10 times till we were out of Chakra. It slowed the game to a crawl and made online unplayable. Fighting games are all about mind games, so I'm really struggling to see why that's a negative for you.
I really loved Generations. It felt like they perfected the engine from Storm 2. You could combo into ultimates similar to S3 style, and it was before they shortened combos and removed the side combo. You could even cancel tilts into ultimates. It was so much fun
A lot of people made really good points after I released this, and one of the big ones was this: I didn't get to play online with the original way substitutions were handled. After seeing it described, the changes actually make a lot more sense to me 😅
I remember buying Storm 4 on sale for almost nothing, it was my first time watching/playing anything Naruto and I was kinda lost BUT LOVED IT!! the intro with hashirama and madara was amazing! The fights and story stunned me. Storm 4 is the reason I am a Naruto fan now, thank you Storm 4.
Great job on this series. I'm not generally a big fan of arena fighters and the trend of "make every shonen anime into a shallow fighting game" has gotten quite old to me, but I love the UNS games. CC2 did a pretty good job throughout the UN series as a whole and I'd love to see them take a crack at a 5th UNS game. I put a lot of hours into the early games on the PS2 and Gamecube and I go back to 4 every now and then because it's pure fun.

I’m just wondering to anybody in the audience, I usually see Storm games played in a slower and more methodical way than I do. My experience with these games is one of couch PVP with my best friend, the only other person I know who plays them. When we play it’s incredibly fast paced and appears chaotic but we’re very tactile in our approach. I tried online but I’m in Australia and the lag doesn’t allow the style of play I’m used to, I’m wondering if this is why others I’ve seen slow down their style?

A little correction to 36:56. The armor break does have an impact on gameplay beyond just visual. The character with broken armor takes a little more damage but also has their dealt damage increased a little too.
This sounds weird coming from me because I tend to be a sucker for 3 dimensional movement in my anime games but I always loved the 2D Ultimate Ninja games more. I played the hell outta Ultimate Ninja 2 and 3 back in the day.
Honestly, they're good enough to stand next to the Storm games, they're just different. Almost not comparable

Storm Generations gotta be my favorite one. Yeah its not like the other storm games like 1,2,3 etc but its what got me into the storm franchise. Combos were stupidly broken, people were competitive, and did people remember the op ult cancels and the infinite tilts? Like damn those tilts with Minato, danzo, and kabuto were dumb broken. They'd literally take your whole hp in one go if you didn't have a substitution bar.

The reason why Storm 4 OP sounded a lot like a anime opening is because its made by the band that already did Naruto Shipudden opening - 16 Silhouette, which is regarded as one of the best Naruto opening

The substitution changing is great imo. It adds more strategy in a good way so you don't just infinitely sub and it makes the game a lot more fair. Naruto fights are about outsmarting your opponent and capitalizing on it. Not just two characters dodging until one gets hit.
I think me not having the ability to play online in its heyday made me a bit biased 😅

Exactly as a competitive players this was a nice change cuz who doesnt love mind games with other players, it added depth. Also timing is literally almost impossible with the storn online network so subs were just luck by mashing in storm 2

Absolutely love the Ultimate Ninja Storm games, just the best cinematic anime story games. Gameplay is fun but where its at is the way it tells the story, top tier animation.
Except for storm 1, that game was very unfinished and really just a proof of concept. So much padding and friction in the story mode, no cutscenes outside of climatic battles. And those unlockable dioramas tell me that they definitely had more planned for the story mode but ran out of time, so they took the unfinished cutscenes and turned them into unlockables in the form of dioramas, which i think is very cool. Maybe im wrong but based on Storm 2 with just the sheer quality of that story mode, I think thats what they wanted in Storm 1 but couldnt do it, so we just got those 3 giant monster fights which were excellent.
Yeah I played Storm 2 first so when I saw that Storm 1s Story Mode wasn't that great I was disappointed, Rise of a Ninja and Broken Bond are very good retellings of Part 1 though
its really odd you dont mention jutsu clashes especially with this series making it a big deal as to why it was removed after storm 1 hence storm 2 having less stuff as far as gameplay goes and showing in reception wise
I mean the decision is odd by itself, this series took some gameplay decisions like it was some competitive FG running for an evo spot, meanwhile the game has one button attacks and the balance is pretty much based on canon XD
It's entirely possible to go through the game and not even encounter it. Heck, I only knew it existed because I was going for the Platinum trophy in the trilogy. East to not know it was a feature, and to not notice its absence.
I'm not sure how deeply Niosai goes into the game's backgrounds/history, but I'd assume not a huge amount.

I played Naruto Online for two years. It's interesting, but man are people competitive... It's basically Naruto, but with MMORPG elements and all the good and bad stuff that comes with them.
No not MMORPG. MMO maybe. Not RPG. Not at all. It's basically just a Naruto Style Gacha game.
It is a lot of fun I do have to admit, but let's be honest. Between the two of us, unless you start playing on a freshly made server, you will not have fun.
Not to mention that certain characters are just OP. Example. Tenten and Tenten of Great Ninja War are 2 different breeds of beasts. And then you get Naruto Six Paths Mode and Tenten GNW is a smol baby compared to him.
There is powercreep bigger than tje Naruto series villains tbh.
I want to see the original 2D fighter come back. Imagine all the things they did in those games but with more powerful hardware.

In my opinion Storm 3 had far better quick time events than Storm 4. 3's had you hitting and using more buttons that generally were the ones that would perform a similar action in gameplay, but 4's felt like it was just only mash B and spin the stick. Also, I really missed the different awakening types that 3 had in 4, I don't believe there was any instant awakening in 4, but I know Suigetsu, Minato, and Nagato had instant awakenings in 3. I used to bully my brothers with instant awakening Nagato.
also storm 4 didn';t even have animations when you failed them. Storm 3 had them but they were underhewlming and repetitive, storm 2 had the best failed animations and some really creative ones

Giving chars like kimimaru, part1sasuke, etc insta awakening practically doubled how safe they could be after using jutsu, grab, tilt, etc. Thankfully the leader switch became another way to cancel into somewhat safety. And tbh id rather have leader switch for the love of the characters. I think storm 4 did the mechanics the best. But i do miss those extra cancels. I miss the faster ninja movement from storm 3 personally. Getting over that was a huge hill for me to climb before i could enjoy the new storm games. The counter is a welcome replacement but the movement was much more fun in storm 3.
With how indepth these vids are I'd love to see how you would do every Mario game (minus those educational games)

Storm 2 will always hold that spot. Even back then tho, I remember wishing Clash of Ninja series got more love. I really enjoyed that series and it was also my entry into Naruto games back when they first came out for gamecube. That should've been around 04. I was in grade school then. Clash of Ninja Revolution was pure 🔥 and only Storm 2 rivaled it as a fun Naruto game.

Great video (I'm halfway in rn), but yeah one thing you forgot to mention is just how many characters they added by even generations, as well as varations of characters which function as whole new characters. It was the biggest thing about the iterations at least for me who mainly played with friends

i was so surprised to see a mention of ultimate ninja blazing. i remember downloading that game when it first came out and it came with me through all of middle school and almost all of high school. i was so sad when it shut down but i wasnt really surprised. even though the ultimate jutsus were ripped from storm 4, i loved seeing them in game and it felt special
Honestly these games are just so good that you don't have to be a fan of Naruto to like them. I like Naruto but even if I hated Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 and 4 the mechanics are just so good. The characters could be replaced with Seinfeld characters and I'd still be happy.
As someone who was playing all the storm games i think overall 3 is the best one I am on 4 at the time of this comment but I think of your a fan of naruto or heck even a Newcomer 2-4 is the best way to see Naruto if the Filler is to much for them :D

I have so many good memories of playing Storm 3 Full Burst with my best friend during breaks when I was in high school. Now I play Storm 4 with my brother and cousin from time to time. Despite being a massive Naruto fan I never really got the chance to play trough all of these games by myself, now that I have a switch I think am gonna get Legacy of Trilogy and Storm 4, cause I really do want to experience these by myself. Great video Niosai, another banger, but HARD disagree on the substitution nitpick.
I actually agree with you about it when it comes to fighting CPUs, but in PvP, it's much better than the HELL that was Storm 2; it's sad you couldn't try it out and see for yourself how brutal & outright horrible the old substituting was, mashing the triggers nonstop to get a single sub in a 90 second fight, imagine how the entire fight would be, you can get sent off by a full combo simply because you couldn't mash faster on the triggers, a real disappointment and a gut punch to the longeivty of the PvP back then.
The new revamp on the sub bar is miles better and more convenient for the overall fight; it makes the fight a cat & mouse game about who's gonna run out of subs first, but with skill and some tricks you can pick up from high level players here in YT, you can empty your opponents without spending much of your own bar, it can get a lot of fun, but the ongoing lag that still occurs 6 years since Storm 4 launched is still haunting storm players with how it messes up their combos or their current strats, it's what killed the longeivty of Storm 4, a very bad network service that just slowly killed the game.
Now, with the rumors about Storm 5 being real, this is a good opportunity for the game to address the faults of Storm 4, most notably the overall fighting system and the sub bar.
I remember back then there was also a huge issue with people with turbo controllers. They would just hold the trigger and instantly sub everything.

Completely agree on the sub revamp added in generations. I'd also like to add that it was probably made as part of the attempt the devs made to trying to make the storm formula more balanced and competitive. An attempt they pretty much gave up on soon afterwards.
In storm 3, 4 and revolution some characters are just godly in comparison to others thanks to the added mechanics, but I think in Gen they hit the sweet spot. Pretty much everyone's balanced. (Except for yellow mask Obito, that character was so ridiculous they nerfed him hard from 3 onwards. But he's pretty much the only one with this issue.)
Thanks for the video and it's a bit funny to see your point of view (not being there when all these games dropped) but trust me, the fanbase had not a great history with the studio making those Storm games.
This might sound crazy with all those awesome special jutsus, amazing animations and cool cutscenes BUT CC2 (the studio) got REALLY lazy with the roster.
Like they would not add fan favorite characters and rather make 10 versions out of the same character. They never updated any of the lesser important characters moveset wise.
You would have characters like Shikamaru, Shino, Asuma, Kiba, Yugo (pretty much 80% of those Storm 2 roster) never getting any updated movesets, even tho they had new stuff in the manga/anime. You've these awesome ninjas but they stayed the same for like 8 years...
This really pissed the fanbase off
I did notice that some characters didn't change much throughout the series, so that definitely is believable
@@Niosai Or just weirdly omitting things like Itachis half body sussanoo in Storm 4 entirely in favor of Perfect which is cool But kinda lame they ditched it,, or Never adding A PTS Kabuto to these games even though hes in storm 1

I HEAVILY disagree with you on the Substitution Jutsu change. The complaints you bring up are relevant to the CPU fights, and even thought I had no issues with CPU fights in this aspect, your opinion is understandable. However, that opinion only covers CPU fights. In Player vs Player fights, specially online, the old Substitution Jutsu system was HELL. You had to play online in Storm 2 at the time to understand the frustration of people just spamming the Substitution Jutsu multiple times in one fight, and then just charge their chakra again to continue the spamming. The Substitution Jutsu change was a very welcome addition in the Naruto community at the time Storm Generations came out.

I do think not being able to play much multiplayer in these games probably did affect my opinion a little bit, but this is interesting to see.

CC2's first game was Tail Concerto on the PS1 and it is my favorite game of all time.
I HIGHLY recommend checking these games out, it is worth it.

I came across one of your contents. I like this approach it gives nostalgia and what it's like to play the series especially for people who haven't got into these. Because truth to be told not all people have the opportunity back then as much now to play. Wanna play psp games during those times not all afford one to play especially as a kid and living in 3rd world country but now with the technology of emulators and capable smart phones for Emulation that are budget , you can. And pc parts nowadays can handle some of this without breaking your wallet. It means a lot to people , you doing this. I played both the mobile and online game! The mobile game was pretty fun, but I didn't play it enough to rank up my characters. The chibi models were nice and the ultimate jutsus sometimes had clips from the show. Naruto online had you create a character (or use the model of one from the show) and go on missions in a 3 by 3 square battle formation. Both were pretty fun at the time lol
I remember getting UNS2 as my first one when i was about 8 or 9ish and playing it over and over. I got the first, third, and fourth one later on, but my nostalgia for that 2nd one is unmatched as my first introduction to Naruto in the first place while trying to find a Dragon Ball game with my sister at gamestop and getting Naruto instead.
I'm not sure if you notice but starting from Generations, the substitution gauge system is balanced out with the combo cancel system (by pressing triangle+cross or Y+A during any of your attack). I haven't seen you used it anytime so I'm just pointing it out.
