    We hope you all are safe & sound at home today and enjoying a relaxing Sunday! One of our subscribers pointed out a difference in the hybrid warranties: Honda warranties the battery for 8 years/100k miles, while Toyota has extended their coverage to 10 years/150k miles starting in 2020.

    How did you forget 8 yrs/100k hybrid battery warranty in Honda vs 10 yrs/150k in Toyota. Plus no towing in Honda along with no spare tire in Honda vs 1750 lb tow capacity and a spare tire in toyota can be single selling points for many buyers and deserves more than 0.5 points IMO.

    You didn't mention the AWD systems. This impacts the CR-V's fuel economy slightly, but with the CR-V's true, mechanical AWD vs. the RAV-4's separate motor-driven, useless system (doesn't provide enough power to really do anything), the CR-V is safer and should slightly surpass the RAV-4. I would also mention the extra 3 inches in the back seats, as well as the issue with the non-adjustable front seat in the RAV-4 being too high for anyone over 5'9", the CR-V is definitely a more comfortable ride.

  • @intochill

    When you were trying the acceleration did you have the cars set to sport mode? Because that makes a huge difference in the RAV4 as it changes the engine timing and compression ratio for max power and run both motors in tandem.

    Both are very, very nice. Honda uses Li-on and Toyota uses NiMh batteries. I wonder which battery type will last longer, that would help me make up my mind. I'm currently driving a 2019 Honda Insight EX hybrid and in a few months I'll pay off my son's 2015 Toyota Corolla SE and I'll be looking for a SUV for myself. I just took a 2020 Honda CR-V EX hybrid for a test drive and loved it, big improvement to my Insight in many ways except in mpg, we are talking 15 mpg city driving difference and 14 mpg highway. I plan to test drive a Toyota RAV-4 hybrid before making my decision, wished I could afford the RAV-4 Prime but the price is out of the question.

      The puny mechanical rear drive in the CRV is a joke. It will quickly overheat and become a useless 2 wheel drive. Electric motors provide a lot of torque.

      @@user-tb7rn1il3q Roller tests showed otherwise only if you have proof to show your statement isn't arbitrary.
      CR-V Hybrid was able to pass all the roller tests (th-cam.com/video/1OxZvPhpZUk/w-d-xo.html )
      But Rav4 Hybrid failed both the rear and front 1-wheel traction roller test (th-cam.com/video/r1xnHCwVAFs/w-d-xo.html )
      Therefore, I have concluded whoever says CR-V hybrid AWD system (or Honda) is not capable are those who haven't test drove or owned the vehicle (or simply trolls), and Toyota AWD systems (both gas and hybrid) are more like a marketing gimmick than actual performance gain (roller tests could have been easily replicated without much costs)

    Guys, thanks for the video.
    I do have a few comments to make aboujt it though. I compared both of these vehicles before purchasing the RAV4. I found the Honda to be less comfortable overall and more roomy for my needs.
    To comment on your findings: You said that you think the Honda was quieter. I have the Rav4 xse model and find it to be just as quiet. No question. Some models are not.
    You also gave more thumbs up to the Honda for staying in battery mode for a longer time. In some ways that is technically true HOWEVER in my experience I have driven my RAV4 at 70 mph in electric mode with no problems and stayed in EV mode for almost 10 minutes. Granted that it is generally on a cruise on level/downhill conditions but it will do it.
    I don't feel the transition from EV mode to gas engine mode most of the time. Only on very limited circumstances and it is pretty gentle.
    Yes. I love the RAV4 but I m trying to be realistic and objective.
    That said, the 2 biggest issues I do have is the fact that the RAV4 doesn't come standard with the backup warning system, All the equipment is there just not enabled unless you have the tech package upgrade.
    Also a problem, although minor, is the gas tank issue. More of an inconvenience than a real problem.
    There you go.

    You implied that the CR-V can be in EV mode at higher speeds (35 mph was the example). This isn't true. The RAV4 can be in EV mode at all speeds (I've seen it at 75 mph before) if conditions allow. But the CR-V is more capable of doing this, I think.

    • @aka7kak8
      @aka7kak8 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cr-v by design doing cycles of ev drive and ICE drive+charge. That allows to save some fuel while keep ICE at best operation mode, however I doubt it is good compromise for battery life expectancy. That info is from honda presentation about i-mmd system.

      a true AWD system with real rear driveshafts (additional weight), aerodynamics sacrifices because of wider tires on the CR-V (but better grip and handling)

      Invincibie Rav4 have a 1,750 towing capacity which cr-v doesn’t even offer, rav4 also offers spare tire which cr-v doesn’t provide. Also the rav4 has a 10 year 150k mile hybrid battery warranty while the cr-v only offers 8 years 100k

    • @koyrehme4361
      @koyrehme4361 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's actually a disadvantage. The CR-V generates electricity to run the motors, and every time energy is converted like that you lose efficiency. A direct mechanical connection is more efficient.

    • @EpicLemonMusic

      The reason the ravhyb is a bit faster than the Crv with less torq is A it is lighter, B toyotas electric engines are bigger and stronger whereas Honda puts strength in the gas engine more. This leads to about 1 second faster to 60 in the rav

    I like the CRV space and genuine leather and a better all wheel drive system for less money also like the aggressive front end of the CRV . I like the Honda hybrid system a little better . There both very close , the Honda interior feels more premium and spacious , people don't trade in a car that's comfortable in 2 or three years , I think the Toyota will be a trade candidate in two our three years where I feel the CRV will be kept for 4 to 5 years maybe longer ( thats a very important consideration when making a purchase the more comfortable a car is the longer you will keep it the rav is sporty but less roomy and considerably less comfortable equals trade in at 2 or three years ( fake leather ) vs genuine leather big difference. Roomy ,spacious ,comfortable, real all wheel drive , less money , bigger vehicle, premium feel interior .CRV is clearly the winner . Plus you will most likely keep it to payoff . RAV definitely will be traded in before payoff.

    Note that AWD system on CR-V hybrid is far superior than Rav4 Hybrid. (So you can get out of sticky situations much easier on the CR-V Hybrid)
    CR-V Hybrid was able to pass all the roller tests (th-cam.com/video/1OxZvPhpZUk/w-d-xo.html )
    But Rav4 Hybrid failed both the rear and front 1-wheel traction roller test (th-cam.com/video/r1xnHCwVAFs/w-d-xo.html )
    It'd be interesting if you can conduct an objective 4x4 roller test on AWD/4WD crossovers or SUV in a controlled environment, and give 1 point to the winner that scored better (Or at least research and mention this when testing is not feasible)
    The majority of buyers will look at all-weather traction or off-road capability when it comes to crossover/SUV.
