Even among the people who praise this film, I think the Captain is a shockingly underrated character. With his character arc, he essentially becomes a stand-in for the whole of humanity. In a way, he begins as a casual villain. He upholds the status quo not because of malicious intent or greed or even lust for power - his only motivation is comfort. He wants things to stay the way they have always been because change requires effort, and that's something these humans have learned to shirk at all costs. When he is first presented with the prospect of returning to Earth, he is excited yet apprehensive - and then, overjoyed to find that it was (seemingly) a false alarm, because he chooses no news even over good news. What ultimately triggers him is one of humankind's most distinctive features - curiosity. And it's at that moment, when he's learning about Earth, that he begins to use his technology responsively, rather than being used BY it. He uses it to further his knowledge and understanding, and it's that which fully convinces him that returning to Earth is both desirable and urgently necessary. The Captain grows naturally towards responsibility like a child learning to walk for the first time. Literally in his case. He becomes heroic once he's fully grasped the situation - realising how stunted humanity has become, how dependent on distraction, willingly enslaved by their own machines. Not just his ship, the entirety of humanity has been on Autopilot. AUTO stands for humanity's complete disinterest in agency for 700 years. Long before the Captain physically gets on his feet, I think the moment he becomes a hero is when he pulls down his cap and says "I am the Captain of the Axiom. We are going home today."
I think how it also works is how the robots seemingly develop more personalities whilst the humans do absolutely nothing and lose alot off personality. So in a way robots become like humans and humans more like robots.

Lets not forget the beauty of the credits, where it shows that humanity could go on to save Earth and make it a beautiful place again through a slide show with different periods of art and different cultures at the same time that shows the blossoming of WALL-E's and EVE's love

I normally always stay for credits until the "boring" ones show up but yeah Wall-E's credits are the best by far because it satiates the curiosity I have for "the ending", but it doesn't negate the thoughts and ideas you get from watching the film since it's a precautionary tale. As a kid, I hated when movies didn't have good enough endings for me like... the couple kisses and that is it?? What about AFTER. and then the sequel cuts to the couple fighting like... dude I want to SEE THEIR FIRST DATE. But after a while of being a musical theater and general arts and culture nerd, I realized why endings are like that... Then I learned the beauty of it... idk if it was today or if it was a while ago, but it was recent-ish. A good story, leaves you curious. leaves you thinking. Whether it's about the future of the couple or the future of the planet. You are left wondering about the future and what you can do next about it. It leaves you with something to sit on. And I think that's proper media consumption.
The part that Wall E was rebooting really made me cry, imagine the personality that took him years to be sentient is now gone, there's no emotion on his new faceplat and the fact that Eve used everything that wall E had thought her adding to the sadness, she almost lost the chance to acknowledge Wall E feelings to her vice versa.
One thing I really appreciated about this movie is that it doesn't villainize the robots for human dependence. Instead, it gives them human traits to emphasize the value of human connection. Wall-E, with his charming personality, exemplifies this, which would help change the views of his robotic peers. His impact on Eve, who initially focused solely on her directive, highlights the importance of human connection.
When a film whose main protagonists communicate with the same vocabulary range of a Pokemon, but will absolutely leave you in tears, then it *IS* 100% a masterpiece.

If you watch the trailer for the movie, you may notice that the narrator describes WALL-E's personality as a glitch. An imperfection in his programming. Just about every robot in the movie is capable of some form of expressiveness, but on the Axiom, it's often suppressed or hidden because it's considered something to correct, something to fix or remove. EVE also has her own personality prior to meeting WALL-E, but she kind of hides it from her superiors. When she arrives on Earth, she only takes off into free flight to "stretch her wings" when the rocket leaves. She seems to know that she can't show her true colors when she's monitored, or she'll be considered faulty. Another example is the broken bots in the repair ward. They can't do their primary jobs because they're malfunctioning, but they have far more personality than their peers. WALL-E is even deemed a hero when he frees them by accident, and they help him and EVE in getting the Axiom back to Earth. WALL-E's brokenness, his free will, IS the hidden message of the story. WALL-E's sentience and proactive nature is the key to bringing humanity back. Humans on the Axiom are largely just... existing. They're not truly living. But WALL-E's had seven hundred years to live, and he ends up spreading that gift to everyone else, especially EVE, who already had her own sentience, but didn't have much opportunity to show it freely. The movie's usage of machines to portray personality as some sort of glitch or imperfection isn't just clever. It's the whole point. Because that's what free will is. The ability to choose, act, and live is meant to be imperfect, because while it does allow us to be inactive, or even choose evil, it also allows us to pursue what's good in the world. It's better to be able to choose good OR evil, than to have no say in the matter at all, to potentially contribute something of value than provide nothing. We are meant to be broken and flawed, because if we were completely perfect, we'd just be mindless machines that couldn't do anything. WALL-E's message is about embracing the root of humanity: The beautiful imperfection of one's free will. It's about using your ability to choose to better the world around you, and how pursuing and working towards something truly good can positively affect those around you, even when you don't realize it. That's what makes WALL-E so timeless. It works on SEVERAL levels. It's not just a love story. It's not just a cautionary tale about the dangers of an automated society, or mankind's responsibility to care for its natural home. It's a story that shows the positive consequences of being alive and active. Imperfection is necessary, even when society might consider it something to be fixed. People are imperfect because they're allowed to choose. We're supposed to be that way. Imperfection is life. And life is wonderful.
Can we talk about how the Wall-E robots were supposed to be cleaning up the planet, but all of their "cleaning" basically boils down to compressing trash into cubes and then stacking it? Really puts an emphasis on how unsustainable our current way of throwing away trash is. Even on the Axiom they just seem to dump the trash out into space instead of finding a better way to dispose of it or recycle it.
This was the golden age of Pixar, it seemed like every movie they made back then was a home run. The Toy Story movies, A Bug’s Life, Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Up, etc. etc. Even with this amazing lineup of films, all of which I have so many fond memories of, Wall-E still manages to shine through and prove itself to be one of Pixar’s very best. The characters, themes, and animation in this film are as beautiful now as they were back then. The fact that so much is conveyed with so few words between Wall-E and Eve proves the universality of love in such a poignant way. The friendships that he forms with the human characters show the common sentience that lies within both man and A.I, and how the two aren’t as different as we think, and this is a film from 2008! A.I wasn’t even on most people’s radar back then, so Wall-E was way ahead of it’s time in that sense. Just a masterpiece of a movie, and will always be one of my favorites.
I can't believe this movie is like 16 years old from now, and yet this movie aged very well, wall-e holds a good place in my heart for being one of the best movies in my childhood
I cannot properly express my love for this film. I love robots. I love space. I like cute stories. I love character parallels.. Wall-E has all that. I’m a huge fan of stories with robots. I love how much you can do with the concept. Rogue AI, self-awareness, lack of or pressing presence of limits (robots can do soo much, but then again, they’re still fragile.) etc. THIS STORY HAS ALL THAT. Auto is, technically, rogue AI. Following a basic order in a violent matter. All the robots are self-aware. And every robot is presented as so wonderful and powerful, and DURABLE, (especially from Wall-E’s POV of the newer tech) but we get to see over and over how vulnerable they are and how easy it is for a robot to be shut down or broken. These concepts are so fun to play with, and Wall-E uses them really well. Robots are soooo cool i love this movie so much
And! Rogue AI is a super cool concept on it’s own. AI does not need to be human to be rogue. AI just means the bot can think for itself with.. well.. artificial intelligence. Auto is not human. He doesn’t act human, and has no personality. But he’s an AI in a very literal sense It’s “gone rogue” because it’s interpreting the instructions in a way that’s unintended and can cause harm. That’s all rogue AI really is. It’s taking what it knows and applying it in a way that’s dangerous. Auto is such a boiled down version of that idea and it makes him unique. But rogue AI can also be a story like Portal 2, where the main villain’s arc revolves more around human thoughts and emotions, and how dangerous unstable people are when in positions of power, and especially when they let it get to their head (Talking about wheatley!) And rogue AI can also be literally anything. And that’s why i love robot stories so much.
People are always talking about the philosophical/religious etc. undercurrents of films, but can we take a minute just to appreciate how good of a romantic film this is? And, yes, I do consider this to be mainly a romantic film and not really a sci-fi film with a moral tale. The *vast* majority of romantic stories (animated, or otherwise) are done in such a cringy way that, frankly, I'm amazed there are so many who watch them. The characters are usually overexaggerated and over-acted and it really detracts from the actual romance. I think this is one of the only romantic films that doesn't do that, whilst still delivering a compelling romantic plot.
This is NOT like Adam and Eve, it’s more like Noah’s Ark. EVE is the dove, the trash is the sinfulness that needed to be washed away, the sapling is the olive branch, and the Axeom is the ark.
Then what does Wall-E and what does auto represent. There wasn't something stopping the ark from returning once the flood ended. I don't think this has anything to do with religion. It has more to do with asking what makes us human and can we lose what makes us human.
This movie, in particular, holds a special place in my heart because it was the last movie i got to see in theaters with my grandma For that reason, on too of how utterly fucking beautiful this movie is, brilliantly written and whatnot, it’s my favorite Pixar film of all time
You know, I just finished playing through NieR: Automata for the first time, and just like the start of WALL-E, the setting is an Earth that has long been abandoned by humanity. Cities that are empty shells of their former selves and reclaimed by nature, all sorts of remnants of the culture that was in place when intelligent biological organisms were running the show, all now serving as the backdrop for interactions between artificial creations, a silent dread that is always present and tells its sorrowful tale through nothing but its mere existence. It's a fascinating setting to work with.
I’ve seen this movie countess times , and it makes me cry without fail everytime . I love this movie , everything about it. It will always be my favorite Pixar movie
One of my all Time favorite movies ❤️ ❤Perfect Story ❤️Perfect Message ❤️so much told without Dialoge ❤️absolute romantic ❤️fantastic soundtrack (especially in the define dancing scene) ❤️so much on point humor ❤️Wall-E and Eve are my favorite Disney/Pixar Couple
Wall-e has been with me since my childhood and is one of the only films that can bring me to tears. I really hope the Captain got to plant his pizza plants
To me, this is basically a Pixar version Kimi no na wa, Tenki no Ko and Suzume no Tojimari. Heck it’s Kimi no na wa, Tenki no Ko and Suzume no Tojimari before Kimi no na wa, Tenki no Ko and Suzume no Tojimari, So it kinda made me feel like Makoto Shinkai did get inspiration from Wall-E. You’ve got to understand that they’re similar in a sense that the story inside, we are seeing between two worlds, one is greener and the other is not. Two main characters fall in love with each other, however one is almost at the verge of death (Wall E, Mitsuha, Hina and Souta), but the other main character (Eve, Taki, Hodoka and Suzume) is finding a way or restoring in order to save the character they love. They also stop the crisis or the chaos happening in the other side of the world they are in.
Wall-E has always been my favorite Pixar movie. It's a spectacular film, but the one issue i have with it is why Eve got sent to the trash-filled earth in the first place. If Auto was set on the idea of never returning to earth, why send a robot to check if the planet was habitable again? It's not like the Captain did it, he was barely even the "Captain" of the ship at the time. The entire movie would have simply not happened if Auto was truly ded set on never returning to earth or even bothering to check if it was habitable
I reckon it’s just part of his programming. Auto’s instructions are to check if earth is habitable, and to keep the people on the ship safe until that time comes. He doesn’t “want” to never return to earth, he’s simply made the judgment, based on centuries of data, that earth is unsalvageable. Eve was sent to earth because Auto is still carrying out his orders, but he refuses to allow them to return because he has his second order (to keep the ship’s passengers safe) and he doesn’t think a single plant outweighs the centuries of data showing that earth is most likely unsalvageable.
I see 2 explanations 1. Auto doesn't really show he is omniscient or else why would he even let eve get up to the captain just to show it was empty. Also maybe turning off the probe sending would require the captain to do it so it's just easier to throw away the plant right before it gets to the captain rather than explaining why it needs to be stopped. 2. Maybe it's because auto isn't evil, he isn't hurting the humans and kind of has conflicting orders because the humans left it unchecked. Maybe he still needs to follow his original orders to send out probes and also needs to keep the humans on the ship. buuuuuut technically his directive didn't say anything about throwing the plant away right before the captain takes a look.
You need to understand that Auto is not sentient or concious. This is not an error on the movie's part, but rather shows what kind of character he is. He's a machine given the two tasks of 1. Sending eve drones to check if life on earth is possible and 2. Not returning, regardless of the outcome. Any human you'd give these contradicting instructions would consider it a waste of resources, but a machine can't think and would just do it. The rest of the robots in wall-e are nothing like that, but I think he's very deliberately the one exception
Dude, your commentary got me in the feels! I became reminiscent of the first time seeing the film many years ago! I, too, loved how the film was able to tell a story with as little dialogue as possible! I think so many production (especially the Disney remakes) forget to implement two things with their projects these days: -Show, don't tell. -Less is more. ....that's just my opinion, though 😅 I look forward to your future uploads!
I feel so bad for the humans too, they're not evil they're all kind to each other, just unknowingly ruining their selves mentally and physically by depending so much on technology..
If Wall-E has a million fans, then I am one of them. If Wall-E has ten fans, then I am one of them. If Wall-E has only one fan then that is me. If Wall-E has no fans, then that means I am no longer on earth. If the world is against Wall-E, then I am against the world. All jokes aside i love this movie so much and it lives rent free in my head since the day i watched it. idc what anybody says about it being mediocre, this movie is life changing wether you like it or not

wall-e is a movie that if you showwed it to someone who never heard or saw it and said it was made in 2023 they would belive you. 4:44 you didnt mention how adorable the cockroach is in this scene.
Love this movie so much. My favorite pixar movie. Also like the nods to 2001 A Space Odyssey, such as AUTO being a nod to HAL and even the music when the captain walks for the first time.
Typical film would have captain be the villain where he wouldn't want to go back as he "likes his position and way of life" or smth and then wall-e and eve would fight him and make a plan how to get back and then everyone would celebrate their success. Fortunately, unlike others, wall-e did not do that
Even auto isn't really a bad guy. he's not hurting the humans but the unchecked AI by the humans has caused the ai to do a sort of "humans cause problems for humans therefore eliminate the choice for humans" sort of logic.
My theory is that Auto isn't being single minded. In fact, I think the opposite. I think he's all too aware that if the humans go back, he not only becomes obsolete, he will not be "king" anymore. After all, unlike all the other bots, Auto is bound to the ship. If he really was single minded, he would have given into the captain's orders.
The way I see it, he's just doing what he's been told to do. His directive overrides all; even the captain's orders. In order to maintain said directive, Auto did whatever was necessary.
The perfect film? No! This movie just portrays humans as pure idiots without exception. Yes, it seems that it's the majority that come off that way but only because the stupid ones tend to stick out more. No one is willing to live in that kind of hellscape to let it get to that way over the entire globe. And if they had to get to a ship ya know that some on that ship are going to decide to not ride the floating lazy boy and decide to walk. They are going to steer free of sugar and get healthy. It's a monocultural prejudice.
I think you completely missed the point of how the humans are portrayed. They're portrayed as "idiots" because that's how they were raised aboard the Axiom. It's a dystopian portrayal, meant to show how consumerism has caused their humanity to slowly slip away over the centuries, even to the point where even robots feel more human. Let's not forget that humanity has been aboard this ship for 700 years. The Axiom and BnL are all they've ever known. Their lifestyles are all centered around BnL, to the point where their main "directive" is to simply be consumers, above all else. Given this, it makes perfect sense how they're portrayed in this film.

Long before the Captain physically gets on his feet, I think the moment he becomes a hero is when he pulls down his cap and says "I am the Captain of the Axiom. We are going home today."
I think this was why the Captain’s character always resonated with me when I was younger. Thx for the analysis, it was top notch!

😱 omg yesss!
Then what does Wall-E and what does auto represent. There wasn't something stopping the ark from returning once the flood ended.
I don't think this has anything to do with religion. It has more to do with asking what makes us human and can we lose what makes us human.
Yes! This was discussed in an article regarding an interview with Mr. Stanton. Though I'm not sure if that exact point was made about the trash. :)
@@mesaplayer9636 Christianity is not religion. God hates religion. Andrew Stanton is a Christian, so it's no surprise.
I guess Wall-E is Jesus then
This movie, in particular, holds a special place in my heart because it was the last movie i got to see in theaters with my grandma
For that reason, on too of how utterly fucking beautiful this movie is, brilliantly written and whatnot, it’s my favorite Pixar film of all time
This is just an amazing movie, well done Pixar.
I really hope this movie gets a sequel
After seeing it in a movie theater back in 2008, I felt it was perfect, and was no need to make any more films.
My favorite movie. Masterpiece

This movie was my childhood
I've never loved a movie like I love WALL-E and I'm so glad some people are still talking about it.
Wall-E was more human than the humans on the ship.
This movie is the goat in my book. It felt good watching this again in my class just this week.
Wall-e has been with me since my childhood and is one of the only films that can bring me to tears. I really hope the Captain got to plant his pizza plants
Also, the graphics are amazing.
Amazing film. Masterpiece.
A few movies I have to watch.
It was ahead of his time
Wall-E has always been my favorite Pixar movie.
To get it, and destroy it. Bring it back basically. It’s all wall-e basically
I see 2 explanations
I saw this movie in cinemas and haven't been the same since it left that much of a impact on me
my favorite Pixar movie by far
Dude, your commentary got me in the feels!
I became reminiscent of the first time seeing the film many years ago!
I, too, loved how the film was able to tell a story with as little dialogue as possible! I think so many production (especially the Disney remakes) forget to implement two things with their projects these days:
-Show, don't tell.
-Less is more.
....that's just my opinion, though 😅
I look forward to your future uploads!
Just finished a work shift in a brewery with a beer and this video is tripping me out. Greatest moment of the week. Keep up the great content man
I feel so bad for the humans too, they're not evil they're all kind to each other, just unknowingly ruining their selves mentally and physically by depending so much on technology..
If Wall-E has a million fans, then I am one of them. If Wall-E has ten fans, then I am one of them. If Wall-E has only one fan then that is me. If Wall-E has no fans, then that means I am no longer on earth. If the world is against Wall-E, then I am against the world.
All jokes aside i love this movie so much and it lives rent free in my head since the day i watched it. idc what anybody says about it being mediocre, this movie is life changing wether you like it or not
I disagree!… for I am the biggest WALL-E enjoyer on Earth! I CHALLENGE THEE!

посмотрел фильм 26 августа, когда его кто то выложил на ютуб. До сих пор не выходит из головы) Согласен со всем вышесказанным. Для меня этот мульт - лучшее творение впринципе, и до сих пор вызывает муражки
I think that they don't want to make a squeal of this one,or else they would calling themselves out as being a parallel to Buy and Large. THEY ARE BUY AND LARGE!
My favorite Pixar/ 3D animated film!
Well this aged well 2020-2022 in a nut shell 🤣🤣🤣
WALL-E is my favorite movie of all time ❤ 😁💝💖
I did not understand the Adam and Eve parallel you tried to draw, but i love the video.
wall-e is a movie that if you showwed it to someone who never heard or saw it and said it was made in 2023 they would belive you. 4:44 you didnt mention how adorable the cockroach is in this scene.
Subbed! I loved this
This is top 5 favorites movies of all time
That was the best Pixar movie what I ever seen
Disney deserves to have their movie uploaded to TH-cam after that Disney Plus lawsuit thing
All the memories come back when I hear the intro song to the movie ❤
WALL E NEEDS A SERIES OR A SEQUEL OR LIVE ACTION!!!! Disney take notes!
Underrated, but I am scared with the way how the live action adaptations and sequels turn out.
@@aaravabin.8603yeah. Better to leave it alone
@@user-dv9xx3yy8v yeah, it's better than getting a trash sequel
I love WALL-E. It’s one of my favorite movies. I wish it had a sequel. I think it would be wonderful.
No. It's perfect it should be left alone.
But what about Typ-e
The way I see it, he's just doing what he's been told to do. His directive overrides all; even the captain's orders. In order to maintain said directive, Auto did whatever was necessary.
The irony of this films message is made by Disney
I like the grgrgrgrgrgrgrgrgr noise he makes
AUTO is the best AI villain that has ever existed, better than HAL-9000 in my opinion.

leigt childhood
I'm sorry if this is going sound freaky I've looked at Wall-e himself as almost like a human child in my POV and the kind I would ever want.
notice the wind turbines at the beginning...
This sounds individual oraly
The main villain doesn't have a personality
My least favourite part of the movie was when it ended
Did… did you not watch this movie with any levels of critical thinking skills.
Its just a film calm down HAHAHA
