    I really like that you address the spectrum of minimalism -- I sometimes find myself feeling guilty or that I should have less, when really, I've made good progress compared to where I've been in the past. I can still pursue minimalism and push myself in the future, while acknowledging that minimalism is a spectrum and I don't need to just have one of each thing. As a new youtuber myself, I just want to say that I really have enjoyed your videos, Sarah, and that they've definitely bolstered my motivation in decluttering. I appreciate your authenticity and humility about it all. Anyway, I've never commented on one of your videos before, because I'm kind of shy about commenting, but I just wanted to say thanks for what you do!

      This is awesome, Elin! Thank you for the kind words! I'm so glad you commented, because I had not yet heard about your channel, but it looks lovely!

      Hey Elin, thank you for sharing your thoughts. I also sometimes feel guilty of having too many things even after a very intense purge. I still feel like I could give away more things. 🤣 I find Sarah's videos very helpful and encouraging. I know I've progressed a lot in the past month and it's always good to acknowledge it. 👏😃 Small steps and patience in everything... 😊🤗

    I am always glad when TH-camrs address the spectrum of minimalism. You don't have to fit the "textbook" minimalist if that doesn't suit your life! I know in some ways (mostly books), I will always be more of a maximalist lol, but learning more about minimalism has helped me gain perspective and be more intentional about what I purchase (and from where).

    I really appreciated your perspectives at the beginning of this video! As a minimalist it can be really tempting to only "need" two or three pairs of shoes but then feel like there is lack. I think minimalism is finding what is enough, not too much and not too little, and that will be different for each and every one of us because each of our lives is different. Love your videos!

    I love second hand shoes (and clothes) so much and I'm so glad you mentioned it. I recently cleared my shoes out and got donated all of my shoes that I found uncomfortable which left me with one pair of summer shoes. I was on the lookout for a pair of flats, loafers and sandals to add to my collection for summer and after searching online for weeks I found nothing. Fast forward to last week I went to a bunch of charity shops and found all three pairs of shoes in my size, in the exact style I wanted, for a total of £20! They were all in great conditon (one pair with the original £60 sale tags on), good brands and good, sturdy materials. Those finds made my day and I love those three pairs of shoes far more than I liked the 6 or so pairs that I donated.

    I love that you buy your shoes second hand! There are so many out there that are unused, you're doing a great thing for the planet! Love your videos

    I'm a big fan of second-hand items including shoes which are perfectly ok with a good wash. I own a similar amount of footwear as you and they cover all situations. Where I live, we rarely get snow (except in the mountains) so that's a bonus 🌼

    I minimized shoes like crazy in the beginning of my minimalism journey and when I found a good shoe person to help me to pick shoes that don't make my plantar fasciitis worse and give me the support I need. I donated all my "good shoes" to Dress for Success along with more formal work clothes I no longer needed so they could give them to women looking for work or recently hired and needing a new wardrobe to get through the week. I think I only have 7 pair - 3 for work, 2 sneakers and 3 sandals (including the ones for yard work).

    All my family wears is second hand shoes because the quality is so much better and half the time the shoes have hardly been worn so I totally support you in that choice lol

    I put second hand shoes outside overnight in cold or out in the sun before putting them in my closet. No problems.

    Nice! I've got 8 pairs myself: orthopedic ankle boots, orthopedic booties with a heel, sneakers, silver heels, dressy sandals, cheap sandals, snow boots, and reef shoes. We travel to tropical places at least once a year and to the snow every Christmas otherwise I'd just have 5 pairs!

    I like what you said about buying second hand leather shoes and how the money goes to charity organizations! I too do not buy new leather products. Thank you for such a good topic video! 🤗🙏🏻

    Second hand shoes are great value and especially good if you need a specific colour or style for a special occasion. Lots of ways to sanitize them these days.

    👍 Thanks Sarah. Good idea to put them altogether to see what you have. Practical, comfortable, seasonal and clumsy proof, yip thats me! The blue travel ones are having a holiday until you can go on holiday! 😂 Just shows that as a seasoned minimalist TH-camr can have firsts too 👏

    Hi Sarah, how are you? This was a really interesting video. I used to hoard shoes as I have very big feet and didn't used to be able to get feminine shoes. When I discovered shops that cater for me, I went mad! Many have gone to charity or the recycling bin now but I could probably get rid of more. Have a great week! x

    I'm 9 also.
    Mine: running shoes, flip flops, casual-to-dressy strappy flat sandals, ballet flats, black 1.5" wedges, 3.5" black stiletto heels, cognac cowboy booties, hiking boots, water shoes.
    That's it.

    Sometimes I'll buy shoes secondhand, but I have my own standards as they have to be in like new (or brand new) condition. In saying that however, my favorite place to buy them usually is TJ Maxx because even though the store isn't secondhand itself, a lot of what they have is great quality for less than the retail price. I've found a pair of Coach flats and Michael Kors heels, each of them being less than $30! 😄

    Thanks for this video! It was helpful. I am struggling to get rid of some old, old summer shoes that I can slip on quickly, but maybe I don't need to keep so many pairs.

    I actually don't own that many pairs of shoes. Don't really have a need for a bunch of shoes. We are usually lucky to get new shoes every few years. I don't really go outside so it's not like they get worn out either.
    Really like what you said about minimalism being different for different people. I'd actually prefer to have a few things I like and mostly just what's needed. Living with so many other people it's not a possibility though. The amount of stuff in our home gives me stress.
    We're moving so I'll have a smaller bedroom but the house itself will be bigger. It gives me stress because I can't place anything anywhere else without people possibly getting into my belongings. So, I will live in an even more cluttered bedroom. I downsized drastically but now even that won't be enough.
    My future new bedroom is comparable to a closet. It's that small.
    Do you have any advice on living in a crowded environment with seven people?

    • @AbundantlyMinimal
      @AbundantlyMinimal  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing stress with this crowded environment. My best advice would be to control what you can control (such as your stuff, which it sounds like you already have a good handle on) and search for ways to find peace or a sense of escape that do not pertain to the physical environment you are living in.

    As a fellow Midwesterner I’m surprised you don’t have a pair of snow boots.

    • @AbundantlyMinimal
      @AbundantlyMinimal  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haha I despise the snow and won't go out into it unless absolutely necessary :) I'm sure once I am a homeowner I'll need to get some for shoveling, but in the meantime our condo takes care of all of that!

    I’m wondering how you clean the second hand leather shoes? That’s something I’d be interested in as most vegan ‘leather’ is actually plastic.

    Hi, Sarah. Do you wear a certain sneaker or shoe for outside yard work? I mow the lawn at my home and by necessity I keep the pair of sneakers that I mainly wear for the current spring-fall lawn season. They are usually the main sneaker pair that I wore the previous year and then once the lawn season is over I donate those shoes. Does anyone else have this pair? I have two pairs of sandals - dressy, flip flop, the sneakers, a pair of boots. I did have dressy shoes but they started breaking down due to my not working. Great video!

    • @AbundantlyMinimal
      @AbundantlyMinimal  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Christine! I don't have any at the moment, since we live in a condo and don't need to do any outside work. I like your idea though!
