DACOB!!!! Never, ever put leather in a plastic bag! Even if wrapped in its cloth dust bag! Leather needs to breathe. Same with stuffing with bubble wrap and bubble pillows. I'm a semi retired designer and I've worked with leather, suede and exotic. Your dust bag is all you need and to further the longevity, it would be very wise to send to leather bag specialists like Leather Surgeons etc and the Hermes Spa for a proper cleaning and conditioning every couple of years.
Every video is a learning experience. Thank you, Dacob. This is convincing me to get a 2.55. Also, I can’t stand the rainbow iridescent reissues either. My thoughts exactly. I never understood why that trend was so popular.
The Queen could NEVER carry a Chanel even if it was gifted to her. Her subjects would be appalled! They already feel that they are too extravagant for modern times. That’s why I LOVED that Diana carried her Lady Dior bag named after her!!
I love your videos. I actually hold and look at my 226 when watching your 2.55 videos. Especially the 2.55 exposed video! Thank you for taking the time to make them. I've learnt so much from you.
Very interesting video. This was actually the moment when I definitely fell asleep last Saturday! Putting all your different reissues side by side is giving more depth to your explanation. Totally forgot that Japan traditionally produces pure black! Thanks for the reminder! I used to own the 35cm in gold hardware but it was theft last March, just before the lockdown. It was the 2nd Chanel bag I ever purchased after the millennium 2005 many years prior. Used to love it and wore it to death. It was from one of the 1st batches of the reissues, with the infamous 2.55 2005 embossed on the flap’s reverse. I purchased it in December 2005 just after my niece’s birth. I intended to gift it to her in 3 years before she will enter university...😭 After all those years, the leather was still looking pristine. Small con though: the glossy gold hardware tended to chip/ fade as years went by. I’ve heard Chanel has managed to fix the problem. Is that right? I think your ban year was in 2017. I remember the 1st things you restarted to buy in order to lift the ban was some stuffs from the space collection. I regret (maybe not since it might have been stolen as well) not having bought the belt bag. They are not made in France anymore and prices have increased so much the last 2 years (from 2200€ to almost 3000€). The only remaining memories of my lost reissue bag I have now are a compagnon wallet and 2 clutches with 2.55 features. 🤞Good luck to you on finding seasonal bags that will fill your highly selective requirements!!! The last time my SA tried to sell me bags (when she gifted me MISIA), she gave up almost instantly just by looking at my face. I don’t know what to say anymore about the current leather quality, the stitchings... more plasticky/ fake than the actual fakes from the infamous Vintimille market! You are right about how to style the bag! The beauty of it should speak for itself! One can wear it whatever way makes ones happy! What looks cool to us can look ridiculous to somebody else! The most important thing is to have fun with it! About price increases? Well, luxury products are not really for sane minds anyways. 😜🤪Post 2015, I surprised myself to keep purchasing at Chanel. I got my 2.55 at the boutique for 2450€. My mom got all her classic flaps in the early 1990s for 7000FF about 1000€ (they still look pristine, very buttery/ chocolaty and even a profane can tell the difference in quality, compared to nowadays bags). About customers policy? Well, it’s difficult to draw a irrefutable conclusion. I am very mixed about this subject. I think Chanel, as well as many other luxury brands had noticed their customers have changed over the last decade, that’s why they have tried to make their SAs look more “accessible” in order to make their clients feel more “special”. Maybe, they just follow the: “in Rome, just do as what romans (the customers with MONEY ) do!” I vividly remember during my mother’s era, the SA (at Chanel) used to be young women, more of bourgeoisie upbringings. One could tell by the way they conducted or expressed themselves. Personally I am all about uniforms. I am also from the pre-online/ pre-social medias luxury generation (I guess, just like you). In my youth, it was more common to buy luxury in multi-brands select shops such as Colette, l’Eclaireur or Kabuki. In those shops, all the SAs used to dress not in uniforms, but according to their personal style (I suspect they were mostly hired for their physiques). I had no problem with that. The problem was the conceited/ snobby/ vain attitude that used to go with it. They were just terrible SAs! Every time I wanted to purchase sth, it felt like asking for a favour. The whole shopping experience used to be very stressful. Every season, I was like: “I am dying to buy this piece but geez, I will have to deal with an asshole again!”. It’s only since the mid-2000s that things started to change. All in all, it’s difficult to claim which era was the best in term of luxury vibes. Both have their pros and cons! PS: one of your idols, Pierre Cardin, passed away this morning 😢
Dacob, this video is fabulous and the ideas you’ve expressed in the end of it - are the ones that should become the motto for brands who care about their reputation. Thank u!
The Chanel King 🤴 has posted his reissue collection! What an awesome video this will be, NO ONE ELSE IS MORE OF A REISSUE EXPERT THAN DACOB... Get ready to take notes.
I bought that velvet bag in the same blue color and it was stunning. But, after the second use( I was wearing jeans )I had stich pulled out and I don't know how/what happen... After that I sold ..But, now I regret it..
Omg finally someone talking about these bags with rational and common sense. I was lucky enough to be born without the hermes/cc/ lv gene thank God. I am constantly horrified by the zombie like brain washed idolatry. You are a gem I agree, and to me a gem includes not only a brain capable of thinking independently, but good grammar, a balanced psyche, lack of ego, and a decided lack of annoying mannerisms. I could go on but this was only my 2nd of your videos. It saddens me greatly how label sickness has hypnotized , capitalized on and is feeding off the wallets of women to the extent that they will continue to allow themselves to be ripped off by these prices. It's robbery and thievery of the weak minded, truly and sadly.

Your Reissue collection is so fabulous 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 Do you find the 227 size too big for your liking? It is my favourite size. I know you have a mini in jersey. What do you think of the jersey fabric, would it work in a larger bag?
I’m very confused. In 2011 I got a 2.55 what I thought was mini. It has a double flap tho. My receipt says classic flap bag but it doesn’t seem as big as a small…. Did mini come w a double at one point
They used to make a small double flap 2.55 in the past 😊 it was super cute. They have since discontinued it and in 2019 they brought out the mini 2.55 single flap instead 🥰
@@SuperDacob oh okay. Thanks for the info. My receipt actually said classic flap bag so does that mean I was given the wrong size? In 2011 the price was 3200, do you know if that was correct! Thanks for all your help!
Hi Dacob, I am a newbie here. I have an eye on Chanel reissue for couple years and now I am lucky enough to own one from consignment store. I have a question according to my reissue, it is 225 in black chevron calf leather with brushed gold hardware 2019. The interior is black instead of beautiful burgundy lining, have you come across that before? Why is it like that? As a 2.55 expert I could not trust anyone else but you. Thank you in advance
Hi Dacob! Very interesting video! I have some questions and would love to hear your point of view on this. I heard/read that desiccant can dry out the leather if you keep them inside the bags for to long. That it´s recommended if you wish to drag out any strange odour in vintage bags but only for a couple of days not longer. But you use this in all your bags so my question is, is this something you heard? Is it nonsens? Im also wondering about the plastic bag storage, you are not afraid that the bags wont "breath" enough? I have read so much about storage of leather bags and its so difficult to know what is correct and what is not. F.ex that the bags can start to smell if you store them in their original boxes. What is your opinion?
Hi Dacob, just curious why do you put them inside a ziploc? I’m also very particular with how I store my Chanel bags but never thought of putting them inside a plastic bag. Thanks! ☺️
No it does not. CHANEL did not use cheap plating or chroming or metals. It does not leave a metallic/bloody smell on the hands like the smell we perceive after we've touched cheap metals.
I just looked at my timeless Chanel medium, which I bought in December 2018 from the Chanel boutique in Madrid. I used that bag 5-6 times maximum ( am really scared to use it because of the price). And that vertical stitch you were talking about actually ripped 😭 does Chanel repair it or how does it work? Does anyone know? So sad I didn’t know all this back then!
Actually I have a "So Black" reissue that I love. I didn't know that it's more expensive than the normal one? I got mine pre-loved and totally love it.
Hello Dacob, I started watching your videos this year as I have had more time on my hands at home. Very informative, thank you. I am curious as well about the plastic bag for storage. I know you mentioned in your other videos it’s just for extra protection but do you ever just take them out when you don’t plan to use to let the leather “breathe”? Thank you 💕 Also love the part about respect... from another POV I have seen some SAs not very respectful of customers just because they don’t drop more $ than others.... it is what it is... I love most SAs I have worked with and treat them like family! I do bring treats in as well... even when I don’t plan to shop... I just happen to be by the neighborhood.... thanks again great content Dacob! Wishing you the best in 2021!!
Thanks Celia. Oh yes, I do take them out of the plastic bags from time to time if I do not use them for a longer period of time. They are not "naked" in the plastic bags. They are always first wrapped is a layer or more of microfiber covers or pouches, so the bags never touch the plastic bags.
You are very good at what you do. Found you via AJLT reviews and have been camped on your channel ever since. Your passion is infectious and you really exude genuine energy. Somehow from watching you, I can tell you're a good person.

The Queen supposedly only wears, or "endorses", UK-made goods. Also, you are right: people seem to conflate class with entitlement.
Wouldn't that be so very limiting of her? (limiting... to say the least...)...
