Room 411 was a real hotel room. The movie actually was filmed in room 411. However, in 2008 the Plaza was sold and half of the hotel was converted to apartments, while the other half remained a (renovated) hotel. Room 411 was on the side that was converted to condos. So while the room did exist when the movie was filmed, it is now gone due to renovations. Also, that is the Plaza’s real phone number when you use the NYC area code (212) instead of 1-800!
One of my favorite scenes from Home Alone 2 would be when Marv and Harry try negotiating with Kevin for his camera and instead of giving it to them , Kevin then throws bricks at Marv by accident while trying to aim them at Harry while he's on the balcony of a relative's apartment roof

My best guess is that after they released home alone 2, they did some renovations of the plaza hotel so that nobody can find or stay in the hotel room that Kevin stayed in :)
Marv has one of the best screams and one of my favorites would be when Marv gets bird seeds thrown at him by a homeless lady in the film and besides and alongside Harry and then Pigeons start to attack them and then Marv starts screaming like a little girl

The Plaza Hotel also has apartments in it. The people who live there have their own entrance and lobby. The apartments are somewhat separated from the regular hotel rooms and I would guess have their own elevators as well. I think the 20th floor was only apartments hence the door bells. That would explain why it was inaccessible via the normal hotel elevators. Most likely the stairwell is always unlocked for fire safety reasons which is why you were able to access it in that way.
Ok guys, i honestly think the second one is the best. Besides it having the most beautiful nyc setting of all time, it was just so fun and bashful the whole way. Just like john hughes said ferris bueller was his love letter to chicago, i honestly think home alone is by far the best example of a love letter to nyc in film form. I mean everytime i watch it or see endorsements for it during xmas season it makes me wanna hop on a plane and spend a crap load of cash i font have. I dare anyone try and come up with a movie that better makes you fall in love with nyc as much as home alone 2 does. Ive thought of a lot of films but none hold a candle

The lobby from the movie is the residents entrance , it's off limits to everyone except the high paying tenants that live there full-time.
