A very impressive and meticulously executed test. I have to wonder, though, whether the fact that these were not brand-new, unused devices, affected the outcome more than anything. I strongly suspect that the age and number of charging cycles affect the performance of a battery much more than anything else one could possibly throw at it.

At this point I would say at least 7 years of updates. 6S and first SE are being supported for 7 years straight, and for newer iPhones it could be even longer
Do a battery test on all the devices of ios 15.4. A lot of users have been complaining about the battery drain on the new software. We would like to know whether to update or not
Comparisons like these have a big flaw. Rather than going through different apps in 1 test it you should do tests with single apps to keep the variables low. for example, if you do an intensive task and SE 1st gen dies then you switch to a lighter task then battery can’t really be compared 1 to 1 as it’s not the actual representation of the battery.
I use SE 1st gen as a spare. Since it's hard to perform any complex task on SE1 due to its tiny screen I only use internet for looking up some basic information and Facebook, messenger and emailing. (No TH-cam, game, spotify) Then it easily lasts till I go to bed.
Yo this video is fire, i'm planning on buying the iPhone SE 3 but i was scared of the battery life but this video showed me that the se 3 has a good battery (better than my current Samsung)
Semi related topic, I use a 2nd gen and it charges extraordinarily fast. 1% every 45 seconds fast, and it lasts about 8-9 hours between charges. I don't know if I have some "mystical battery" or something, but I don't want to replace my battery or phone either way
From personal experience with all three devices, the first and the newest have the best batteries and I explain why. The first one is not suitable for games and mainly modern ones due to a small screen and an older processor. Whoever gets the first generation will use it for phones and communication and in that scenario its battery life is on par with the third generation. For this reason I consider the second generation to be the worst of the three.
Tbh I wish they would have kept the SE the box style but with every version add a new camera like they did with the newer iPhones but keep the newer iPhone the round style since it called the SE aka special edition I believe they would have gotten more sales tbh
I actually regret not waiting for the SE3 to come out and buying the 2 (first iPhone and great phone, but the battery life, performance and better photo quality is better in the 3)
Don’t stress too much about it. No one knew Apple would update the SE or when this phone was coming out. You got a good phone, which will last you for years to come.
iPhone SE 2022 amazing 🤩 it's incredible even with a small battery 2018 mah worked almost 8 hours imagine android users with a 5000 mah battery works the same but with a large battery almost 3 times respect apple optimization
I have an Android with 5000 mah, and I shattered it, and am using my brother's old se 2 as a main, you can't deny apple's optimization, but it gets awful battery life, the android got at least 10-15 hours of medium to heavy use, apple needs to make an se, but with a 5.5 inch screen, bigger battery, and a good chipset, I'd buy it in a heartbeat
That's really good abttery from the SE 3! I'm not that kind of a mobile gamer but imagine this doing only messaging and some kind of youtube video watching. That would be amazing batterylife. Also the last SE and first hold up really well actually.
I bought the first gen se in 2017 and by 2019 it’s battery health was at like 63% and it wouldn’t last more than a few minutes. Sometimes the phone would randomly shut down. I should’ve just had the battery replaced. I loved that phone. But I upgraded to the xr instead
for iphone 5SE personally I can say that it can work on 4G around 3 hours of screen play and 5 hours on wi-fi. It is without gaming and video calls. In this video it shows the iPhone 5SE works with testing on heavy graphics can last till 5 hours of screen play. But no sound. It is also a big deal. This is not a clear test.
Did they put iPod touch 6 batteries inside these SE phones? My SE 2nd generation is about 13 months old and the battery started to go down hill about 6 months of low to medium use. My iPhone 7 lasts a bit longer and I’ve had that for 2.5 years and I don’t have to use a virtual home button. ( I used the iPhone 7 as Wi-Fi only, no chip inside and it cost me $125). Very nice informative video you did.

I love small phones so I got back to 13 mini from 14promax. It is a brand new sealed box 512gb green one still found on an old stock of a comerciant. But I remembered about first SE being even smaller, so I found few of them being on sell by a guy that said they have been exposed in different shops to allow people see and interact with them. Like new, and battery life from 90 to 100%. I asked for 100% one. Purchased it and I’ll get it in few days. Hope the best and keep my finger crossed. I intend to use it as my daily one. I really reaaaaaly love small phones! I also own Samsung s10e because is the smallest one from Samsung. I love the moments when I can’t feel them in the pocket and for a second I fear I forgot my phone at home :) It happens sometimes with 13 mini. I also owned 12 mini, but 13 has a better battery life, better camera and exactly same size. Now I can’t wait the SE that will make mini to look big by comparing :)
This is actualy amazing, every other review or comparisjon showed that SE3 is garbage on battery, but this video is showing me that perhaps its realy worth to thinking about buying it
I have a first generation SE and, with a battery replacement, the Health is perfect. The weird thing is though that only 90% to 100% charge actually seem to count, the moment the charge drops to 89% the phone dies.
As someone who has been using an se 2 for 2 years I can tell you that over time the battery will come and bite you in the ass, can't help but feel like the se 3 will have the same issue
I bought the SE 3 last summer and only used it for a month (I only bought the one month to get the phone on sale). I left it on, no calling, no videos, no games, and it would loose battery so quickly that it would die in one day. One day of just sitting idle! Is there anything I can do to improve the battery life? This is my first iPhone, so thought that is what the battery was like. It has been in the drawer for over a month now.
Ah lemme give you an advice from person who loving both android and Apple. Never use 5G, disable all non useful app background refresh or something (they can still deliver notification but not quite fast), disable sync with data either fetch email/app or iCloud Services and last but not least enable low power mode. Bonus tip: enable airplane mode when in wifi coverage. This could squezze more half hour or more depend on task while screen on. Screen off could be whole two day
I want the iPhone SE 3 for Christmas... Might look like an old phone but still gets software and security updates. Moving on from a Samsung Galaxy S6 edge since it's too old and too tired to carry on with me 😔 Good machine though EDIT: Got a Galaxy A14 and now everything's swell 👌

Personnal experience you may find interesting. I got an iPad Air 2 in 2014, and kept it on iOS 8.4 (original firmware) for 5 years. 5 years later, it was still perfectly fine, fast and fluid, just like day one. And it was using the original battery. But the iOS 8.4 App Store closed in 2019. So I updated to iPadOS 13. And oh boy did it suddenly go slower, full of stutters and buggy. I thought that was the battery at first, so I replaced it. Without knowing that iPads do not work like iPhones when it comes to battery health, performance doesn’t decrease because of the massive batteries doing a better job despite aging. After the battery replacement, nothing changed, it was still a mess. Since it was so messy already, I continued updating until the last update, iPadOS 15. And it got slightly slower, again. So yeah, beware of iOS / iPadOS updates. Small ones are fine (XX.1 for example doesn’t slow down anything), yearly ones are the ones to avoid if possible. Since that I got an iPhone SE 2022, I’ve done the first major iOS update (iOS 16) to get the support of Metal 3.0 games. But I’m not updating to iOS 17. iOS 16 introduced very minor stutters here and there, but it’s fine like 98% of the time. So I’d say the first update is generally fine, if you own a pro phone / phone with the latest chip at time of release like SE 3. I would upgrade a theoretical iPhone 14 Pro to iOS 17 without much worries. However I wouldn’t update a 14. Since it shares the same chip as the 13 Pro. I’ve seen a lot of people complaining about iOS 17 on 13 Pro. Being slower, stuttery and so on. For iPad Pro and the latest Air, since they now use the very powerful M chips, I don’t know if this applies to the same extent. But for normal iPads and Mini 6, i’d do the same thing as iPhones. Mini 6 should stay on iOS 16 for example.

I loved the comparison!! The only complaint I have is you did the most intensive task at a HORRIBLE time imo. It killed the SE 1 and 2. Then a lot lighter tasks which prolonged the SE 3 longer then I think it otherwise would have lasted. I also would have liked to see a short camera test.
Overall a very nice video with just that 1 hiccup in there which I think scewed the results quite a bit
Yeah, it was kind of silly. I suspect there would have been barely an hour difference between the SE2 and SE3, had he kept playing that game. Shame. Was such a great test until that point.
@@thestingyham1188 the SE3 really is about 1 1/2-2 hours longer in life than the SE2, the "hour" that would be normal is the fact the 3 had 5G support and the 2 only supports LTE
I mean as he said it depends on each person, you may use an SE1 just to social media and a SE3 to play and not much social media usage, and the battery would last almost the same or even better for the SE1, just saying
@@thestingyham1188 se 3 lasts at leats 100 mins more than se 2

It matters.
A very impressive and meticulously executed test. I have to wonder, though, whether the fact that these were not brand-new, unused devices, affected the outcome more than anything. I strongly suspect that the age and number of charging cycles affect the performance of a battery much more than anything else one could possibly throw at it.
They all showed 100% battery health at the beginning of the test.
Lol, they all had new batteries.
I currently use a SE 2020 as my main on its original software (13.4.1) and I have my 1st gen SE on 13.5.1 as a backup. Love both but the 1st gen will always be dear to me.
Hi, do you like the camera and photo quality?
@@fordevind756 On which? The SE1 is old but still great in the right situation, the SE2 is fantastic and better than iPhone Xr. Also, is your last name like a fish?)

@@fordevind756я думал я тут единственный из России, кто такие видео смотрит)))😃😃
My main phone is an SE 2020. The battery is starting to wear a bit. I still have my SE original from 2017, but I just use it for listening to podcasts and music. The battery is pretty well gone, but if it had a new battery that thing would still be kicking.
Crazy to me that the first gen SE is still managing those new apps including Minecraft
Been using the se 1st gen for years now. Was planning on upgrading to either the 13 or se 3. But after seeing this I feel like waiting another year
This battery test was amazing, but something to keep in mind is when you add a sim card, that will also drain the battery even more
He didn’t have a SIM card on, it said it on the top left
Yes I have a SE 2. Gen and never get 5 hours screen . I don't play games . Cellular drains battery if signals are weak.
@@galactik6742 The point of the comment was to say that he shouldve added a sim card. Not that there was one.

Wow SE (2022)battery is very impressive imagine they had SE plus maybe it would have gone to about 9 hours
I commented that on another video like they need to bring iPhone 8plus looks back

SE Plus? 🤦♂️
Well 8 hours of sot is impressive.
Best in class chip and cameras( absence wide angle lens and night mode is a con though)
Good battery life.
5 to 6 years of updates.
But that display, wish it had oled and had body of 8 plus thats too tiny with that bazel.
At this point I would say at least 7 years of updates. 6S and first SE are being supported for 7 years straight, and for newer iPhones it could be even longer

Thank you so much! Wishing u could make iPhone 8 vs SE 3 battery comparison too
iphone 8 has roughly the same battery as the se2
Comparisons like these have a big flaw. Rather than going through different apps in 1 test it you should do tests with single apps to keep the variables low. for example, if you do an intensive task and SE 1st gen dies then you switch to a lighter task then battery can’t really be compared 1 to 1 as it’s not the actual representation of the battery.
your Dedication is APPLAUDABLE Thank You so much for this…
I have the SE 2 I keep the low power mode on 24/7 with a shortcut.
The first generation iPhone still remains a legendary phone that is more than current in 2022 🔥
I use SE 1st gen as a spare. Since it's hard to perform any complex task on SE1 due to its tiny screen I only use internet for looking up some basic information and Facebook, messenger and emailing. (No TH-cam, game, spotify)
Then it easily lasts till I go to bed.
Yo this video is fire, i'm planning on buying the iPhone SE 3 but i was scared of the battery life but this video showed me that the se 3 has a good battery (better than my current Samsung)
I have the phone at 100% battery opacity it’s not great
Apple actually tried with the 3rd gen, the SE used to be a battery on life support and now it lasts just as long as a 13 mini 😀
that's insane, remember when the iphone 6 with the same body but the battery life was about 1h screen on time
Semi related topic, I use a 2nd gen and it charges extraordinarily fast.
They all performing well love this .
Tbh I wish they would have kept the SE the box style but with every version add a new camera like they did with the newer iPhones but keep the newer iPhone the round style since it called the SE aka special edition I believe they would have gotten more sales tbh
I love this! I like how this is explained very well and what you are doing. Well done!
Get a cheap battery case or something and you're fine
Performance is better but the a13 is great
@@gmdrandom6287 I hate bulky cases :/
Same, although I wanted the 12 mini but it was a lot more expensive and I couldn’t afford it
Loved my SE 1. Best phone I've owned but the battery was a shocker
se 1st gen user here with 100% battery health and my battery lasts quite similar from your comparison
Really Great Video , just what I needed , keep making videos ! , Don't stop!
If you want a phone in a old body, newer softwares, then the SE 1 is perfect ngl
The se generation is in my opinion the best phone apple made #1 is cheap for us cheap parents/virgins #2 the battery is really solid
I have all iphones SE. Are wonderful cellphones,i'm satisfied with everyone ❤
iPhone SE 2022 amazing 🤩 it's incredible even with a small battery 2018 mah worked almost 8 hours imagine android users with a 5000 mah battery works the same but with a large battery almost 3 times respect apple optimization
Back in 2016, I bought an iPhone SE, but I later decided to return it. To this very day, I regret doing so.
still have mine , this video encouraged me to change battery and use it !
@@fspeshalxo69 I just did that with my SE1! The battery life is back almost at when it was new! Very pleased.
The 3rd one really has much better battery. That alone might be enough to get it. Impressive from 3rd gen.

That's really good abttery from the SE 3! I'm not that kind of a mobile gamer but imagine this doing only messaging and some kind of youtube video watching. That would be amazing batterylife. Also the last SE and first hold up really well actually.
I’m downgrading from iPhone X to first generation because of the classic looks and battery
I bought the first gen se in 2017 and by 2019 it’s battery health was at like 63% and it wouldn’t last more than a few minutes. Sometimes the phone would randomly shut down. I should’ve just had the battery replaced. I loved that phone. But I upgraded to the xr instead
I heard Apple used old stock 5s batteries in some which degraded fast. Mine dropped off hard in 2020 after being great battery wise in 2018 and 2019
@@CentralPALocos that could be true. I’ve never had an iPhone have its battery go bad that fast before
for iphone 5SE personally I can say that it can work on 4G around 3 hours of screen play and 5 hours on wi-fi.
Very nice informative video you did.
the new SE 3 is like 4% better each time and overall it adds up and last longer.
how did you get 4% from 5 hours vs 7 hours 20 mins, that's nearly a 50% increase, lol.
I have the iPhone se 2020 I been using it for two years the battery health is at 82% and still runs smoothly I use my iPhone se 2020 for Apple Music 🎶 and FaceTime and Facebook and TH-cam and Facebook messenger and iMessage 💬 I buy music and ringtones on my iPhone se 2020 I now have the iPhone SE 3rd generation I got it today 1/2/2024 I love it so far it has 5g
SE1 was the best design.
Thank you I’m bying the se 1
This is actualy amazing, every other review or comparisjon showed that SE3 is garbage on battery, but this video is showing me that perhaps its realy worth to thinking about buying it
this is the video i was looking for.. THX!!!
The SE 3 had actually good battery life compared to the others and still with playing games and stuff too, that’s crazy tbh😂
I would like to see a battery test with the iphone xr, 11, se 2 and se3 it would be great
The test that no one asked for but really wanted lol
Wow very amazing for SE gen 1👍🏼
So is it about optimisation? Because battery capacity increased very little
I have a first generation SE and, with a battery replacement, the Health is perfect.
Just get your battery replaced. It will do fine. When se3 price drops just exchange your se2 for it. It will be a good decision. Or just stick to se2.
SE3 and SE2 have no design difference only the internals that's it
I bought the SE 3 last summer and only used it for a month (I only bought the one month to get the phone on sale).
Moving on from a Samsung Galaxy S6 edge since it's too old and too tired to carry on with me 😔
Good machine though

Is it worth to always update your iOS? I fear it may slow things down like the 4S, that became unusable with iOS 9
No ones gonna mention how this guy just stayed and played pubg on three phones without actually playing it for 1 hour?
Your videos are incredible
Very good test
