But it's a flawed strategy to think you'll get a loan because you are Black, or because they understand the Black community. They still have to go off your credit and use collateral, there's no way around it.

As a military member, we have been using USAA virtually for years so online banking is a norm for us. We can relocate anywhere and always have access to our accounts and I love it.
Right I will never leave Navy Federal or USAA Banks are not caring as a credit union or have better rates. Also, USAA provides insurance and other services. Greenwood is just a bank.

Cars on the other hand can be saved for and bought with cash. Stay debt free and pay the mortgage off earlier. Start with a car you can afford to pay cash for, and move up as your income grows.
It depends on where you are and what you can afford. Yes, in the long run, it's better to own a home than to rent for your entire life. But, if you miss mortgage payments, you lose it all.

We are short 70-100k HVAC engineers. Go into the trades people. There is money and good jobs there.
I teach in middle school that is predominantly black. I tell my kids the same thing.

Great interview. Love that he is pushing home ownership. My only objection is auto loans. That we probably need less of. Going into debt on a home, is simply going to be a reality for most people. Cars on the other hand can be saved for and bought with cash. Stay debt free and pay the mortgage off earlier. Start with a car you can afford to pay cash for, and move up as your income grows.

Yes, the whole black owned narrative has its perks and will make you feel good about having your money there. What you really want is a scenario where you have a product that is tested and ready to be brought to market at scale...or you have property that you are trying to acquire and you need creative financing to get these goals accomplish -- the bank that you have a "relationship" with says to you, okay here's what we'll do: approve a loan on our books for you with nothing down, charge you interest only for a year, and convert that loan to a fixed payment one at 3.5%. No personal banker gatekeepers, no extensive underwriting process, and no having to have millions with them in deposits in order to get that kind of service -- just the relationship with the key decision maker of the bank. That's the power of a community bank (if done right).
