You are probably Norwegian so you probably know that the correct translation should be "our father and mother" and not "those who gave us birth". I don't think this version is any better than the direct translation, and it better keeps the context of the song IMO.

I think the people who complain about the translation being bad do not realise that the lyrics are very loosely translated and slightly modified to fit the song and rhyme in English. This is called a metrical translation. It's meant to give words in English that can be sung along and still sound good, not be 100% accurate to the original words

I think the people who complain about the translation being bad do not realise that the lyrics are very loosely translated and slightly modified to fit the song and rhyme in English. This is called a metrical translation. It's meant to give words in English that can be sung along and still sound good, not be 100% accurate to the original words
