Wonder if the Combines Arms add on has all varieties of drones and hypersonic missiles yet. Nothing funnier than an ace pilot being attacked at the airfield before takeoff or after landing in an online game.
Thanks for the video with the AIM-174 LS.
Growling sidewinder took his first shot at over 90 miles and got a kill and I don’t think they got within 50 miles of him of shooting and he got all his kills
These on a f15 with its radar. Nasty.
These can get a weapons grade targeting solution from just a data link. Don’t even need a radar on.
That's what I was thinking.
Even better is a team with F-15s and either F-22 or F-35 ahead to provide the targeting data. Almost certainly lets them fire 200 miles from the target with a high kill probability.
I'm no Fighter pilot but that there is something I would no want to go up against..
puts a whole new meaning to the term murder hornet 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hornet can't even target at that range. Not even close. Overall just enother scheme of the US oligarchs to sell absurdly expensive crap.
One missiles costs around 4 million dollary by the info, for a failing empire that is ultra bankrott.
AIM-120 + AIM-54 Phoenix = AIM-174 😱
Never thought I'd see the F/A-18E... We always see the 2 seat F Super Hornet. This is a brand new twist!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Since the Hornet is one of my favorite aircraft, seeing these long-range missiles is incredible, great video!
The quality of the editing on your videos makes them my absolute favorite to watch.
Thank you very much
F15EX strapped with multiple Aim174 missiles against 5 Su35s😂
How about growlingsidewinder or you in the ef tyhpoon with full set of meteors against you or growlingsidewinder with the aim174b? Maybe with AWACS so we got full capablility.
I forgot the AIM-260 is supposed to be coming soon. Would be quite the duo to have both the 260 and 174.
i think the navy just got bored waiting for the 260 tbh. the 174 is a heavy piece of kit but for anything that doesn't have to fit it into a stealth internal store, it just makes sense, and it's available today in numbers. even if we get initial operating capability for the 260 soon there's gonna be a waitlist and everyone knows the F-22 and the F-35A are the favorite children, and then and only then maybe a few F-35C. it's gonna take a while until even super hornets are armed with the new and shiny missile.
the 174 is like the amraam's big brother: same seeker (but over twice as big in diameter, likely around 5x more sensitive), 3x the boom, and way the hell more range, in a very similar but embiggened body. as far as i know, outside of having to carry it, the most difficult part of shooting it is having a radar that can detect a bandit at a long enough range. and as a bonus, even if you crash with it or it turns out a dud, you're not giving your enemy any intel, it's an old design anyway. it's perfect for what the navy needs
@@DeeSnow97 Actually the F-18E's are the first to get the aim-260 F-35's will get them much later in blk 4 but reality is they don't need them since the aim-120d's range is 130 miles and there's no fighter radar or AWACS that can detect an F-35 triple digit distance and if the F-35 is EW-ing now you're talking about double digits. F-35 was able to get in JDAM range of a PAC-3 radar and take it out in exercise so aim-120d is more than enough for now.
@@DeeSnow97they was live fire testing this while the 260 still in development few years ago..and now that the 260 is supposed to enter service this year I see them giving the 260’s to f35 and f22 because the 174b is too big to fit in the bays from my understanding
I wonder if real-world pilots giggle as they launch this thing...
Super Hornet is back in the game!
Excellent job longshot, Those missiles are absolutely lethal!!!!!
2:54 Wow, that missile had no energy left, all he had to do was make any kind of maneuver.
any kind? \*pulls a cobra\*
He had abandoned all hope lol
He didn't know it was right there on him.
sadly Longshot does no Tacview debrief, but you can take this as your own intel - never stay in a linear crank.
I once was dodging an R77 within 10nm or so, I saw the thing overshoot right near to my cockpit, fly formation with me, and slowly turning in again. Turning away saved it.
Imagine if they put these F 15EX
Dam that look like hitting a bird with a telephone pole lol
the skipper of the 192 Golden Dragons would be impressed
Kinda want to see how this missile would perform in a scenario like in the Ukraine theater.
1: Intercept bombers that are hiding behind SAM cover(Russia and Ukraine drops bombs and fire cruise missiles behind their own lines)
2: You can use AWACs such as the Saab 340 to spot targets.
Yeah man, it would entirely change the war.
SAMs got much longer range and you would have to get very close to the frontline still = you would still be fucked.
You overal wouldn't be able to target them in the first place at that range anyway.
It's just another money laundry scheme of the US oligachs, while the endless debt of the country keeps on detonativ more bruatlly than all its arsenal.
@@corvanphoenix Just shows that cou got zero clue about actual warfare.
Got nothing to do with computer games.
The Phoenix role has returned
Very cool missile. Got an idea for a video. You and GS load up on all of the new long range, hypersonic missile. The AIM 260 and AIM 174 b. Aloha.
The chaff sound effect is awesome
Thank you
Cool video Longshot. That Aim 174 looks big, so I am guessing the F22 will not be able to carry it? Unless it carries it under its wings = reduced stealth
It may well be able to feed it datalink, though.
These are better for less stealthy fighter jets(F16s, F15s, F18s) since they are more in danger when closing in enemy territory. F35s and F22s are better with AIM120Ds or meteors since they can close in on enemy targets.
I hope the USAF at least do weapons clearance trials on -15 & -16.
Nah, it's probably not going on the Raptor. This is a Navy weapon, anyway.
Thanks for keeping us up to date man. I love this American attitude. Let's see what happens when we put it on a plane.
I wonder if the Navy and Air Force are exploring the feasibility of integrating the Precision Strike Missile?
If this is in active service, imagine what they haven't told us yet.
Gotta see a comparison video of AIM-174 vs AIM-260
can you play a scenario where you lob these missiles from 200 miles and have f35s close to the enemy guide them with datalink, if it is possible in DCS. Some people are saying this could be the use of the aim174 in real life
You can lock on and the plane 11 miles behind you can fire the missle.
This is a great example of why the whole "4th-gen not survivable" argument is nonsense. Goes to show how it's less (but not nothing) to do with *WHAT* assets are employed, meaning it's not just simply *THAT* you have stealthy aircraft. It's *HOW* the assets you have are employed through doctrine & tactics, and how adaptations are made to maximize asset effectiveness in given situations in order to most effectively execute the mission & achieve particular goals.
great video as always longshot! but is it possible to make a video about integrated fire control with AIM-174B? probably working together with F-35C with the sensor fusion
That was cool how do I get the mod for AIM-174-B
That did not take long to appear on DCS.
So both you and Growlingsidewinder are Canadian huh?
PL-15, R-77: "STUPID AMERICANS, HOW ARE YOU GOING TO WIN IN THE BVR FIGHT IF YOU CAN'T EVEN REACH US?"
AIM-174B: "*ALLOW ME TO INTRODUCE MYSELF*"
And most importantly, you saved the fuel tank for the tax payers.
Never Let Go is a video title you need to use. Idk what scenario you would use, but I'm sure you'll think of something.
Great video, awesome cut scenes, always a pleasure.
Thank you very much
We put those missiles on all of our planes.
This video was a long shot.
It's a thing of beauty.
the F18E mod needs to be edited. they can not be carried in twin racks like in the video.. they should be 1 missile per high weight pylon, or 4 total.
this is still really cool though.
you would have alot better performance and not needed the 4th missile if you would not take such extreme HOB shots. i like to change from Left to right beaming, and take my shots as im sweeping the nose past where the bandit is. its the best of both worlds for defensive and aggressive and makes it so the missile doesnt have to waste its precious burn phase cranking 45+ deg just to line up.
aim 174 has an airburst detonation right? I watched it in slow mode..
All modern missiles have a proximity fuse. How well that is modeled in DCS is up for debate, but in real life, you are correct, missiles only have to get close in order to detonate and do damage.
@resurgam_b7 Well, most, yeah. Certainly all AAM's.
Imaginr thr range and launch authorizations you would get with that missile on a strike eagle
Long range spam comments arrived in less than 60 seconds.
Gotta love dcs new toys
Yeah, It's cool
Did they add the missile in the module, or is it a mod ?
Are those AIM-174b's more dangerous from longer distances? Allowing them to hit higher altitudes and gain more speed before diving down onto targets?
Not really, the missiles loft like that in order to extend their range so that they have a chance to hit more distant targets, but doing so spends fuel (and thus potential speed) to fly up rather than forward and gravity won't give back that speed. Compared to the rocket motor, gravity is pretty wimpy, so they will always reach a higher speed if they can fly directly towards their target while they are under thrust. Once the motor runs out of fuel and shuts off, the gravity would be the only source of more energy for them, but since they are traveling much faster than their terminal velocity, drag will overpower gravity, even at high altitude, so even if they were flying straight down, they would still be slowing down until they reached their terminal velocity. If they are above their target when the motor shuts off, then they have a chance to use their momentum to drop down and score a hit, but once they pass below their target's altitude, it becomes very unlikely that they will be able to connect, so when a target is distant, they compromise some speed initially to get higher up so that when the motor cuts off, they can glide down onto the target, rather than using all the fuel to get up to a higher speed, and then finding themselves several thousand feet below their target when they arrive, even though they are going a bit faster.
Think of it like throwing a rock. Your arm can only accelerate the projectile while it is in your hand so you always throw it as hard as you can. If you want to hit a target that is far away, obviously you'll have to throw at an upward angle so that the speed you give the rock can be used to travel a long distance. If your target if closer to you, you can throw directly at it so that all the speed is used to get to the target faster. If the rock/missile had infinite fuel, then being further away would be beneficial since it could then spend a longer time accelerating and would be going much faster once it arrived, so it would be much harder to dodge, but since the laws of physics don't like infinite things, being closer will always result in a more dangerous missile because the distance that the missile has to glide is less, so it will loose less speed to drag.
Return of the Phoenix
You use only AIM 120 C not D?
How does one get the mod?
What´s the name of the intro song?
Is this the US's answer to the Russian's two-stage missile?
It is thought by analysts to be the US Navy's answer to the growing Chinese AWACS fleet. Against an AWACS it would have a high chance of a kill even at over 250 miles range, and if launched from above 40,000ft it would very likely have a maximum range significantly longer than that. Of course like all air-to-air missiles launching it at maximum range is much less likely to get you a kill.
Is this a new mod available in DCS ?
Where do I get that missile at, how do I install it after I download it????
Those missiles have over a 200 mile range.I don't understand why people keep on using clothes
What does that even mean?
Hey everyone. Does anyone know where I can get the Russian hypersonic missile mod? I’ve been looking for longer range Russian missiles. If anyone can help point me somewhere I’d really appreciate it it
needs more tacview
is this a mod?
It basically defeats the purpose of the missile
they shot 2 R37 HS fox3 on you and they did not even came close !!
WTF
Do you play with vr ?
Is there a link to download this mod?
His life let me get close And then fire
there are only two DCS channels worth following….longshot and growling sidewinder….after all the others…
How did you get the missile? Modded the files yourself? Is there a mod link I can download?
It's not a public mod
may I ask why?
@@magnitudefallout3944Whoever made it probably charges people for it.
Yahoo!
Where can I download the mod?
The mod is not public
@@LongShotChannel oh no... CH is the god of DCS modding. So I guess many would forgive him of not releasing it public.
Is this missile a MOD?
Yes sir. Not public
Aim 120 + Aim 54 = ?
Its just a happy coincidence. The other name for the SM-6 upon which this missile is based, is the RIM-174.
each of those is 2000 pounds it doesnt look like its modeled like it 😂😂
It does. I'm holding the stick
Boy howdy LS
1:47 Their R-37 have longer range than the Aim 174's . But the video is very cool
They don't but they likely travel faster
They do not. SM-6IB surface-launched (w/booster) & AIM-174B air-launched (w/o booster) both are capable of ranges exceeding 250nmi. The limiting factor is the detection & tracking range of the launch asset's radar, and so the SM-6IB surface-launched variant fired from an AEGIS vessel is fully capable of accurately striking a given target from its maximum effective range, while the AIM-174B air-launched variant would require AWACS or data link in order to reach its maximum effective range with any reliable degree of accuracy. That said, actual maximum effective range is classified, but independent analyses based on publicly-available data give theoretical maximum effective range values for the AIM-174B of approximately 350nmi, and for the SM-6IB of slightly greater than 400nmi.
Yeah but they are shit at G turn compared to 174
@@fqeagles21 very true. R-37 is intended to take down AWACS, tankers and more "lumbering" targets of the like, while SM-6/AIM-174 is designed to hit maneuvering fighters & missiles.
Not true, the aim-174 range is classified, but some people have speculated the missile can go farther than R-37M and PL-17. The aim-174 is not the phoenix 2, this is the return of the AAAM, but better, way better
WHY did missiles #2 and #3 miss???
Same reason the enemy's missiles never hit Longshot; crank maneuvers plus range bled them of energy, and by the time they were close they didn't have enough airspeed to maneuver for the hit. Longshot's first missile barely had the speed to catch up to the target and if he'd done anything more to avoid it it almost certainly would have missed, and even the fourth missile, while it definitely had more energy, wasn't going all that fast. You try to get just close enough to your opponent to get a kill; too close and his chances of hitting you get uncomfortably high. So your missiles are likely to be working at the edge of their performance envelope unless you massively outclass your opponent in BVR and can get close enough for a shot with a near-100% PK before he's even able to fire.
nice fight but this fully fictional planes and rockets
No, the AIM-174-B is entering service now with a classified maximum effective range that is almost certainly well over 200 miles in the right circumstances. Currently only the F-18-E/F can carry it. It will not be procured in large numbers and probably has as its primary use targeting enemy AWACS not fighters, as it is several times the price of an AMRAAM. Against AWACS which are not exactly manoeuvrable it is likely to have a high probability of a kill even at close to maximum range, whatever the maximum range actually is.
@@FireAngelOfLondon nobody knows the accurate data so this is fully fictional…
@@unknowerror4348 It is an estimate based on the range and capabilities of the SM-6, upon which the AIM-174-B is based. Launched from a ship the SM-6 can strike targets over 200 miles from the ship, but the booster only carries it to 6,000ft. Launched from altitude the AIM-174-B is effectively using the F-18 as a booster but since it can be launched from a much higher altitude it _certainly_ has a longer range. How much longer is classified, but if launched from 15,000ft it would be effective at least out to 250 miles against an AWACS, which is not very manoeuvrable. That is not pure fiction, it is an entirely reasonable estimate based on the known properties of the missile when launched from a surface ship. The SM-6 can be used to shoot down cruise missiles and even air to surface missiles at considerable range if targeting data is available. The AIM-174-B will have at least the same capabilities but a significantly longer range which will depend on the launch altitude.
Hehehe
A missile that costs 5 Mio dollars per unit with a range of about 300km? 😂
I would say someone made lot of money with this military contract payed by tax money 😂😂😂
Also, the 174 probably doesn't cost 5 million. It probably costs 2.5 million. if they increase the orders and produce a lot of it by sharing the production line with SM-6, the cost of both missiles will go down significantly. The SM-6 is expensive because the US doesn't order many of them.
how is this in action 🖕
