Thanks for watching everyone and apologies if I didn't reply to your question in the 'live chat'. I didn't realise it was time limited and would close! What can I say, what a sad sad day. It's understand during the current financial climate although it's still a very sad way to see the 747 retired without much fanfare. If you haven't already seen them, please check out my other recent Qantas Boeing 747-400 videos including my last ever flight (trip report from Sydney to Melbourne: th-cam.com/video/pEn0ahrdwL8/w-d-xo.html and my trip report from Sydney to Brisbane: th-cam.com/video/9KakKVYHaVw/w-d-xo.html ). And finally, please comment and let me know what the Qantas 747 means to you and like/subscribe...etc...etc Cheers! :)

Thank you Paul for that beautiful video. Certainly painted the Queen of the Skies in every way she deserves to be remembered, not just as the flagship of QANTAS for the many many years they kept her in service flying countless safe miles around the globe, but to the mainstay of international travel as we know it today....she'll never be forgotten to all, her elegance as her GE's spooled up roaring her into life, and her most beautiful of touch downs meeting terra firma once again, truly one of the most impressive sights to behold....thank you once again!!!!

I've probably flown on these birds across the Pacific at least a dozen times.
I remember my first flight on one as a kid in 1988 from HK to LAX. My dad told me, "this is a 747, the biggest airline in the world." it was so massive inside.
The last time I flew on one, I was 30. I'll always miss the large, comfortable cabin, seeing the sun set on the clouds below the 2 engines on the wing.
I don't want this to happen. The golden age of air travel ended in 2001, this seems like the final blow.

We flew in this very aircraft in March 2020 from Tokyo to Sydney. The announcement of the fleets retirement was made during our flight. The captain invited those interested to view the flight deck after arrival in Sydney. Too good an opportunity to miss, so wife and I went for a look and spoke briefly with the FO. Got the obligatory photo of me in the Captains Seat. This was our one and only time in a 747. So glad I got at least one flight in a 747. It always saddens me to think of these incredible aircraft being flown to a desert in the US, shut down and left to decay. Not just the 747's but any aircraft really. These amazing examples of engineering and technological brilliance being parked up and basically forgotten. Isn't it amazing how humans get so emotionally attached to what is essentially a flying jigsaw. A collection of pieces brought together and assembled in a particular way. It has no feelings for us and yet we love it and grieve for it when it goes.

Boarding a 747 at Kingsford Smith with all the excitement of a journey where the outcome is uncertain is one of life's truly great pleasures. Sitting in the terminal with that inescapable feeling of adventure in your heart, knowing you are about to cross the globe and see and do amazing things.
Then, when the journey is complete, that mighty bird descends into Sydney and you see our harbour and our home spread out before us....then the wanderlust is replaced with gratitude that in a few short minutes the wheels will touch down and we are back in our country, the greatest country.
I've crossed the world many times in a 747 and those mighty birds are the greatest aircraft ever to take the skies.

I'm not ashamed to say I got a little teary watching this. I flew a brand-new Qantas 747-400 to Sydney in the early nineties and still remember it as being a fantastic experience, even though the guy sitting next to me on the return flight had strep (which I came down with two days later). I also flew a new Northwest 747-400 to Sydney a couple years after that but it just wasn't as memorable an experience. Must be that Spirit of Australia that was the difference! Thanks, Paul!

Thanks Paul for the farewell video. The only 747s I have ever flown on were the Qantas 747-200 and Qantas 747-400. Flights I will always remember. Very sad to see the Queen of the skies being retired at Qantas.

19 years ago I had the pleasure to be on one of their longest flights from Buenos Aires to Auckland in the upper deck in 13k in the 747-400. What an experience to sit in this majestic plane and travel between continents. Farewell to this wonderful Queen of the skies! She is more than just a milestone in aviation.

Regret seeing the 747 gone, the best long range flights. Especially with those carriers that had the business class on the upper deck! Will always remember the luxury!

Hello Paul, thank you for sharing this wonderful vid. It's heart breaking really but to be honest that is life changing. Not due the fact of the crisis but in other terms aswell. I love the 747 for anything. It's a master piece of it's own and that also thank to Joe Sutter (RIP) for everything. Sure there will be some flying around but for passengers getting more and more rare. Had my first longhaul flight on SQ from ZRH - SIN and back. Simply amazing. Cheers

Great tribute Paul and loved the vision and the music. While watching I tried to recall where I have flown with Qantas and Air New Zealand in a 747 - 300 -200 and 400 !! Auckland...Los Angeles 1st Class...home from Atlanta on a charter after the Games....Johannesburg...Bombay....Bahrain...London (many times) Hong Kong and then London with Cathay....and vice versa....San Francisco and return with United ..... Santiago and return after the Rio games....(Qantas) but the best was flying over Antarctica in a 747 400...what a trip !! Well done as always mate and take care during these most troubling of times !! Oh and of course Singapore !!

Will miss B744 QF27/QF28 crossing New Zealand on way to Santiago. A pity that Sydney was almost deserted of aircraft on her arrival back today. She deserves more accolates but for all airlines thay have been great aircraft. Flew once on the B747 Classic Trans Tasman back in the 80's. End of an era. Great video you made .
