One of those songs I didn't pay much attention to at the time but now elicits a strong sense of nostalgia for that time period.
I remembered my class, Grade 7D @ Corentyne Comprehensive High in 1989....We had just finished taken the national Common Entrance Exam a couple months earlier in April and were awaiting the results.
I was placed at the above named school...it was the beginning of our high school journey. It was sometime in late September of '89 that I first heard this song storming out of the speakers of RVC's Cassette Shoppe situated next to Parsram's gas station in Port Mourant and boy I loved it right there and then... up to this day...where did the time go? It's all coming back to me...so fresh.To the boys and girls of Grade 7D or better yet known as Form 1D back then and also who are now grown men and women ...I salute you for making it this far in life and many more years to come of good health and happiness... also thank you for being my classmates...this memory will live on, never to be lost as long as there is life in me.👍🇬🇾

Ahhh, memories of the Summer of '89 in Salt Lake City/ Ogden, Utah. Being 15 years old and on summer vacation, one of my top 3 summers of my life. It was such a coincidence that I was visiting my brother at Hill Air Force Base in Utah, as Donnie was making his comeback to the mainstream, since he was from Utah also. He made a solid comeback with this song and "Soldier of Love". Unfortunately he wasn't heard on the Top 40 after 1989. So many great songs and movies came out that Summer of '89.

Yes I was 9 or 10 also. I remember it on the car radio and it's one I completely forgot about until I heard it on Sirius XM. I remember most of the 80s..but this is one that I really liked that I completely forgot about!

I won't go as far as the previous two "commentators," lol... but nah..... although soft-rock ballads were all the rage in 1989, this to me sounds nothing like Marx or Michael. I've often seen it compared to them, though, and it mystifies me. The only similarity to me is that it is very melodic, the "gospel-style" backing "choir" sounds somewhat like "Father Figure"'s, and... hell, it's a slow song that sounds nothing like a Marx song.
I could totally hear Richard Marx singing this as well!

It's funny because when radio stations started playing the first single from this album, Soldier Of Love, they wouldn't say who it was. Most people did guess George Michael. NOBODY guessed Donny Osmond! At the time he was pretty much just a has been performing on Broadway. This was his big comeback
