I'm a bit of a hoarder too so I can understand how hard it is to let go of things but I am getting better at it, not 100% but better than I used to be and I'm proud of myself for it :)

I suspect Angela and David are both suffering from profound depression. I've cleaned for depressed people (nothing as bad as this cottage, but some were pretty awful) and the clients were almost always deeply "down in the dumps". Their homes echoed their attitudes about life in general.
The couple seem like lovely people, just overwhelmed by life. I hope they can get to a doctor and begin treatment soon. They deserve a clean place to live!

@@zzzbbbooo Depression is debilitating! It's a true mental illness and has ruined more lives than alcohol & drugs combined. The house exhibits their mindset; the depression led to the mess, the mess didn't cause the depression.
It will take more than an hour a day to get them healthy again -- if that can even be accomplished.
But you're right: A clean place to live may help get their recovery started.

Most of the people that alow there home to get like this is going threw something émotionally and mentally. You can clean there home but they need help. These two ladies are the best cleaners i have every seen.
this made me feel better about my room. i clean obsessively, and still feel like my room isn’t clean enough. watching this actually makes me feel better about myself. watching this is sort of an escape.

I love this show, just like everyone else I can now feel smug about my mid-clean home. Yay, I wash the floors 4 times a year, sweep every day, I clean the bathtub once a month, the toilet once every 2 weeks, change the sheets once every 2 weeks, and empty the dishwasher when it needs it, make my bed every day, keep up with my laundry, I empty the garbages regularly, wash the windows once a year, and wash counters and surfaces almost daily. I've got them all beat.
its apparent that all the houses in this programme are disgusting. but also some comments here are too. sometimes people loose smo beloved, keep having bad things one after another, or whatever the reason is.. then they just let everything go. i think everyone deserves a second chance, everyone sometimes in life needs a hand to get things right. your perfect house doesnt mean that you will never be one of these families some day. look at the man's face at 20:23 and please try to be more kind at words people. wish you the very best!

Most of us have bad bad things in life to cope with.but really there no need for this.not at this level..
+Victoria smith everyone has their own "acting out". one goes drinking, drugs, gambling, you name it. You can't decide that if most of us don't it go this far, others do. I think it's mostly people who have never learned to deal with emotions and then something just exploded.
They can be helped with good therapy but what you are implying really is that people who manage to stay on their toes instead of falling over are superior to people who did tip over
I have had issues w/having too much in too little space, and not doing a good job at organizing it and cleaning the space. So, I accepted the help of a counselor, I graduated from her sessions & her HW for me was to watch Hoarders/ Hoarding so it keeps under control. It works. Lately in the past 8 months, I have donated so much to Big Brothers and Big Sisters (they come to pick it up in a truck) that now the floors are seen and there is space everywhere. I am loosing weight, throwing out more stuff w/ The FlyLady's and Peter Walsh's help and not taking in any free stuff. I feel so empowered, if I am not going to use it, them bless someone else and donate it. It works. =D

I was once told the health of your home reflects the health of your marriage and in this case I can 100% see it to be true.
I definitely would paint it brighter colours then that pink everywhere. & open some curtains get some light in there, too dark & dingy....(depressing) These shows NEVER fail to get you motivated to CLEAN!!!!!

According to various articles, both ladies maintain very clean, very attractive homes. Kim is now retired as a former professional cleaner, but never lets her house get any kind of out of control. Aggie also constantly maintains her home in a very clean and pleasant state.
Probably so clean its see through.

"I have back problems". Well I have chronic pain and chronic fatigue and regularly dislocate joints. It doesn't mean that I don't clean, you just need to pace it if you have difficulties, although she seems to move around okay

I wish my sister had this kind of attitude. She lost mobility on her left arm from a stroke a bit over a year ago and she just gave up on trying or doing anything 😔 it's sad and frustrating
I live in Cornwall and have been to Penzance many times so to see this was an absolute treat. I love this show to death cause I grew up with it and have many fond memories of this episode. Probably still my favourite one in the whole series. Probably just because it was filmed quite near where I was born. 😎👍

I DO have back issues, spinal deformities I was born with, as well as two permanent serious injuries that happened in recent years, and I still maintain a clean house. I don't want to have to try and climb over, under, around or through piles of junk, dirt, dead things, and grossness just to live my life. I actually enjoy cleaning, although by no means am I OCC/OCD....it's just rather enjoyable to keep things clean and pleasant.

This makes me feel so great about my house. It's messy, but not that bad and I atleast vaccuum around 1x a week😅 and do dishes and clean counters+ tables daily
It's a shame this programme was axed because I use to watch this and I learned a lot of cleaning tips I bet some of these people on the show have gone back to their old ways

Absolutely! I wish more people could see that, especially when they're making these programs. I think they handle it well in Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners, at least sometimes. This is my first time seeing this program, they're helpful but also naggy.

OH MY GOSH!! Has these people that are hoarding been babied all their life or what? I bet they never had a father figure that stood up to them and told them NO. They were probably the type of older kid that would sit on the store floor and throw temper tantrum. I have seen it first hand. A boy that looked 12-13 in a pet store wanted two fish so bad. He was on the floor crying, yelling, screaming, just like a two or three year old would. It was so embarrassing, everyone just left the aquarium dept. And then right on cue. The mother told him to get the fish and get going. I couldn't believe what I just seen.

so I feel like my house looks like that.
When I watched these programmes when they were first aired I fully enjoyed them. Over the years hoarding has become recognised as a form of OCD and a mental well being problem. With this in mind I now look at the programme in a whole new set of eyes. I now cringe at Kim's scathing comments about their clients and Angie can sound condescending. I still love the end result though.
Sometimes people need a bit of tough love. Nowt wrong with a few ‘scathing comments’ now and then.

Have'nt cleaned in 28 years?!!! Im 28 y.o. I was born, spent childhood in Italy, got beaten up, came out, forgiven, graduated and now a consultant, and in all that time, they never once had time to clean their house!!!

Okay, if David thinks household chores are "woman's work", then what is his excuse for that yard being such a dumping ground? He has some responsibilities on the home front that he is NOT fulfilling! Goodness!
He lives there too. He can pick up a broom just as easily as she can. He is just as much to blame with that attitude.
So he has to go out and work all day and then be told you have to do half the housework as well while she does nothing at all except shop all day? Yeah... equality.

Watching these videos when I have insomnia make me get out of bed and clean my kitchen despite having a raging headache. My kitchen is clean and sanitized and headache gone. Now I can sleep.
While I don't have many headaches, I don't like to sleep, so I start cleaning and cleaning and CLEANING--not OCC, not steam cleaning anything (our vile, lime-laden water would ruin a steam cleaner), but sweeping, mopping, dusting, etc. It really does help me get to sleep because I know that I won't have to wake up to a dirty home, and the cleaning I'll be doing during the next day will be vastly easier for having done so much during the night 😁.
Im so stupid! When I watch these videos, instead of being motivated to clean (which my house NEEDS BTW) I sit all self righteous and think "at least my house isn't THAT BAD!!!). Terrible.

I live in a basement loft with hubby, no much light, but if you reduce the place a pigsty it's even more depressing. Declutter, less things, more tidiness. Simple as that.

I can attest to this. I live in a house that has a kitchen with very little natural light and it’s very depressing makes me never want to go in the kitchen!!

In her defense of "back problems, " I, too, suffer with back pain (quite severe after 4 lumbar spine surgeries), but I keep my cottage clean -- much to the chagrin of my screaming back. She could hire a housekeeper with the $$$ she spends on senseless trinkets.
My husband and I have several health issues including back and leg problems and our 2600 square foot home is immaculate
@@deedeeb9980 mine also with have 6 kids ages 14 12 10 3 2 10 months and im 7 months pregnant. My husband busts his ass at work and i take care of the house and kids. PS no we get no welfare foodstamps fuel or any other type financial assistance. We have 6 kids and completely do EVERYTHING with what we earn between the two of us and yes hes their father.
I'm positive these two sold the house right away and never saw each other ever again.

Considering that the wife has blonde hair and all the hair that came out of the sink was draining was black we know it was his. So he can't bend over and clean the drain in the tub only he uses? SMH I hope you're doing much much better now they seem like lovely people!

I love how this was handled with such positivity! Usually I'll see cleaning shows where everyone gets upset, but with this they became educated and they truly felt better about their lives afterwards. I really thought this was just lovely :3
