Sorry for the delay in response. I'm sure your pediatrician was trying to be as thorough as possible at your daughter's exam. We hear comments from time to time that parents feel rushed at their appointments, so be thankful yours did take the time with you! Thank you for your comments!

Is there a physical for middle school?

Certain vaccines are important to receive during middle school, here's the CDC's recommendations for preteens and teens: www.cdc.gov/vaccines/schedules/downloads/teen/parent-version-schedule-7-18yrs.pdf Please contact your pediatrician to make sure you're up to date on your child's vaccines.

Female Nurse Practitioners or Female Doctors should NOT be doing MALE High School or Middle School Sports Physicals. Period. See: www.kevinmd.com/blog/2011/08/sports-physicals-includes-provisions-privacy.html to understand why.

It is my sincere hope that you click on the link that I gave you as above regarding Dr. Kevin MD and the embarrassment that boys have to endure for Male sports physicals in Middle and High School. I am a bit older now, but I remember well the embarrassment of being in school and sport physicals and having to stand in a line in shorts, with 10 other boys and had to drop my shorts, and cough and bend over, in front of the other boys, and also a younger, attractive female school nurse, standing right there, with clip board, viewing all of our private parts up close, as the doctor checked our genitals. Its even MORE embarrassing when the DR. is a female NP or Dr, and you have 2 females in the room. No privacy given for boys. HOPEFULLY things have changed now, and EACH boy can go behind a screen for that part. OR a Male doctor is used, and the female nurse is not present in full view of our privates. The Medical field needs to understand that BOYS have modesty too, and deserve the SAME sensitivity that Girls and woman get. I note that regardless of the gender of the Dr, or nurse, girls do not have to expose anything in those physicals. This is why I made the comment as above. Females shouldn't be in those exams, when boys are in puberty stages, whether or not the females are professional or not. Boys deserve modesty. Many boys wont go out for sports, specifically because of this type of insensitivity to modesty, and having to expose themselves to woman. In either case, you would NEVER see 2 males in an intimate exam with a female patient, and rightfully it shouldn't happen with 2 females in an exam with a male patient for sports physicals.

Hi Jim, I'm sure our pediatricians try to be as respectful as possible to the privacy of their male patients during physicals. I will pass along your comments to our Medical Director as well. Also, the female physician in the video did not actually perform a complete physical on the young man. This was a staged exam for informational purposes for the TH-cam video. Thank you again for sharing your concerns about a very important topic.

this kind of crap is unecessary and all it is, is a chance to make more money for doctors. If your kid has a problem they will complain and say they have a problem. nothing they do here will catch something before it starts. Typically kids will notice problems with themselves faster than most adults can, as most humans are hyper-sensitive to stuff until their mid 20s. The trauma of putting your kid through this is what leads to early childhood behavioral issues and why their trust in doctors goes out the door.
