It means the Estonian people associate the USSR with Russia and “Russian occupation”…You can sense the Estonian Nationalism in this video for sure. They should sing the anthems in their language. Many still wrongly blame the USSR for Russification that went on in the Union when that wasn’t the point of the USSR at all. Estonian Nationalism was a response to Russian Nationalism and Russian Nationalism/Russification was Counter Revolutionary as it causes other forms of Nationalism to grow as a response hurting the Revolution. We saw this in Socialist Yugoslavia as well. This is what actual Marxist Leninists observe and learn from. True Leninists are Internationalist.

In many cases soviet policies were the ones that saved many languages from been forgotten because of the russification policies of the former Russian Empire, the USSR gave the chance and right to other states to exist and to some people to have its own Republics with their own language. Literally, the proof is in this video if Estonian was not an official language of the Estonian SSR its anthem wouldn't be in estonian.

I know people felt like the USSR was a Russian occupation but I don’t understand why the USSR and Socialism is to blame. Russification and Russian Nationalism (same thing) wasn’t what the USSR stood for and the Estonians, Ukrainians, Georgians, Armenians, Latvians, Moldovans and Lithuanians need to see this. Blame Nationalism as a whole and attack that instead of the idea of bringing Countries together and trying to build actual Socialist progress. In the end people left the Union because they wanted to “escape Russia” this isn’t unfounded because there was Russification going on in the Soviet days. If anything Gorbachev instead of reforming the USSR like he did should have led an era of de-Russification. Yes the economy was in stagnation and needed work BUT that isn’t enough to destroy a Country it just means you have problems to fix. Should Gorbachev have done this instead of trying to turn the USSR into something it was never going to be this would be giving people the freedom from Russian Nationalism that they wanted… This would be in line with Soviet Internationalist ideology Lenin always believed in. This would actually be a way to save the USSR and fight against independence movements and Baltic Nationalism. Keeping Russia within Russian borders instead of encroaching on Estonia is unironically fighting Nationalism. Russian Nationalism is still Nationalism and Nationalism breeds Baltic Nationalism. Communism and compete borderlessness isn’t going to be achieved for now so Internationalism is the best step towards this goal. Yes the fact that there was Republics at all and that borders even needed to exist proved that Socialism had a long way to go but that’s why it’s a process to Communism. It takes time to eliminate Nationalism, Currency, Borders, Class divide and the State.

Also, Estonians greeted the soviets and participated in the Red Army against fascism and Germany by thousands. Also, saying that the USSR was nazi or worse than Germany is so historically inaccurate and misinformation, that it could be described as alternation of history and propaganda against the USSR implemented by nazi supporters still ruling those treasonous to their people countries.

For example, in 1968 in Czechoslovakia, people burned themselves alive, came out with flags without Soviet symbols, and went on strike. If Gorbachev had not existed or if he had been liquidated for treason, the Soviet Union would have existed calmly in the 21st century. If you look at the history of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, they were part of the Russian Empire from the 18th century. Russia lost control of these regions after the First World War. Then they returned to the USSR under the Molotov-Rebbentrop Pact.

For example, in 1968 in Czechoslovakia, people burned themselves alive, came out with flags without Soviet symbols, and went on strike. If Gorbachev had not existed or if he had been liquidated for treason, the Soviet Union would have existed calmly in the 21st century. If you look at the history of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, they were part of the Russian Empire from the 18th century. Russia lost control of these regions after the First World War. Then they returned to the USSR under the Molotov-Rebbentrop Pact.
