I think Nirvana has become a right of passage as a teenager almost. It definitely defined that period of time for me. I was blown away by everything they did but Nevermind lit the flame.

You're just a band wagon jumper.
You're not even allowed to introduce yourself.
As a teenager you were already mentally unwell.
You Were blown away by your own ego and big mouth.
We know who you are before you open your mouth.

I was 25 when Nevermind came out. I had been a heavy metal fan since 1978 and by this time, I was so tired of the hair band that were so popular in the late 80s. I saw the Smells Like Teen Spirit video and LOVED it. I know some think that's blasphemous for a metalhead to say Lol but it was so different and it really spoke to me. Felt the same for In Utero as well. To this day, I still list Nirvana as one of the bands that made a difference in my life.

It's very interesting! I know a lot of heavy metal fans who say they hated nirvana because the grunge scene killed heavy metal. It is good to read that there are other thoughts on this.

Happy 30th Anniversary to Nirvana's debut starting album Nevermind that dropped on 9/24/91! A memorable fire way to kick off one of the most successful bands of the grunge period. I enjoy listening to this lit album 30 years later to the day of 9/24/2021! I appreciate this album. :)

Hello, younger person here. Very similar story, I got into them when I was about 13-14 (I'm almost 18 now), and would listen to them through my generations version of cassette copying: TH-cam to MP3 sites. But my first real "Holy Shit" moment with the band when I knew was really hearing something special was when I bought Unplugged In New York on CD on impulse at Walmart one day. I used to listen to that album almost every day, definitely one of those life changers for me, now I have it as well as Nevermind in my growing vinyl collection, thanks for sharing your story with the band, it's amazing how so much yet so little can change in 30 years.

Thanks a lot for the vid, im 19 and i love watching people that had my age when my favorite music went out talk about how it was and how big of an impact it was in their lives as much as it was in mine 25 years later. I stumbled with your video while looking for the best version of nevermind to buy for the first time for my very small but growing music collection, still haven't decided if I want to buy nevermind on CD or in vinyl but at least I know that I have to STAY AWAY from the 20th anniversary edition (even though the box set looks the coolest) but anyways thanks a lot for sharing this video, and I'm subscribing for more

Great reviews! Love your channel. There are studio versions of "Old Age," and "Verse Chorus Verse" on the boxset "With The Lights Out." Unfortunately it was not pressed on vinyl. That would be a wet dream. But, I thought you might want to hear the studio versions. They can also be found here on yt.

I had just turned 14 when I first heard this album a few months after it had been released. It spoke to me like nothing else had before. This was music that was mine. While I didn't go on to spend years in bands, it did influence my life in a massive way.
It's strange to listen to it now after so many years. Sometimes the old magic is there, other times I can tell that I overlistened to it so much. I'll always love it though. It has a place in my life that no other music ever will.

I love hearing the personal stories of people how they discovered Nirvana. I am 38 and i am happy i got to live (even as a kid) around the time nirvana existed in history, because listening to Nirvanas discography for the first time in the 90s, it was one of happiest moments of my life. Even to this day.

I am not the biggest Nirvana fan but appreciate great, landmark albums when they come around. Yes, I bought the 30th Special Edition on 8 piece vinyl, still boxed and sealed, but mainly to pass onto my nephew when I'm gone as Ive seen how much the 20th anniversary edition now sells for just on CD! 😀

the proverbial words here: (seems like) ... when they were extremely dedicated, practiced militantly, Kurts' vision beyond any willingness to go to ANY lengths to achieve, learn, promote, travel, not sleep, not eat, not expecting anything from anyone, anywhere at anytime and paid dearly for it with their lives and then some. That is why no one will ever be remotely duplicate any aspects to the sum total of what became the reality that now can't be bought or taught, nevermind calculated and manufactured.

I was 12 in November '92. My best mate had a copied cassette of the album and lent it to me. The wonderful thing about it was, there was no song titles, no pictures, nothing. Just the 90m cassette with the album taped onto one side. It was like getting to know somebody, falling in love over the days, and weeks with it. It just was "there" each night, at the weekends, without realising how much it was actually impacting me. I loved how, it was just the tape aswell, with nothing to look at as Id heard it. It made it more mysterious, new, and something unmarked, unnamed, and previously unnoticed that would become the touchstone for justabout everything in my life since.

First time I ever heard the band, I dropped acid in highschool, had to duck out early and walk home after 6th period... Made some Ramen and was watching Family Ties... The show had a green and yellow tinge, and was too fake looking... Noodles were all vibrating around, so that didnt work either... sat the bowl down and flipped to MTV... probably 1:30 PM or so... Smells like Teen Spirit video debut just came on... I was tripping balls... Something in me changed... I remember saying to myself... "This is what I need to be listening to!!!" NirvAna ?? I mispronounced they're name... Life changing for sure!!! Ended up seeing them live, Dead center and second row, 40 minutes from my house in Salem Oregon, 1994!!! Looking straight up at kurt... Krist was barefoot. Bought the tix 2 nights before the show from my friends skate/head shop... He put postcards on the ground for two tix, face value... 22.50... Turnned out being my future co workers tix (20 years later) because he had got grounded... lol... The story continues... amazing stuff!!! I asked my bud, "Why did you have the note cards on the ground to sell nirna tix?? He replied, "Well I figured if you are into nirvana, You'd probably be staring at the ground moping around, " lol

I'm probably roughly your age, 46, so listened to a lot of similar music. For me as a 10 year old kid, it was early heavy metal, then thrash, Slayer, Anthrax, etc, Faith No More, Helmet, Rage Against the Machine, etc. However, when Nirvana came out, I was not into Nevermind. It took a long time before it clicked for me. 94. Then I fell in love with the band. The 90s was like the late 60s for cool different music, so many different styles of music, all cool. Maybe, I'm a relic of my time, but I just can't get into the contemporary music.

I had someone dub me this to tape. I had liked Teen Spirit and In Bloom a lot. Once I got my copy, I liked the album overall but didn't put it in the great category. I did eventually get the cd for it once I got a cd player. Of their catalog, Nevermind and Unplugged are my favorites. Nirvana, IMO, was able to mix pop sensibilities with alternative/grunge/rock in a way that it sounded like noise but it carried a decent tune. The lyrics always made me think that Kurt was either non-sensical or a lyrical genius LOL. I did find this album's cover a pretty big political statement with the baby chasing the all-mighty dollar. I think Kurt could have sung better than he did on a lot of their songs... his scratchy vocals didn't do much for me but when he tried, he had a decent rock voice.
