      @888drpepper 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@benthekeeshond545 I watched all of Swiateks matches last year. (sometimes getting up in the middle of the night) She and Kontaveit are my favorite players. Swiatek's bigger weakness is her first serve. She had the lowest first serve % last year among the 8 finalists in Mexico. During the year, some matches she was around the 50% area and a few were actually lower. Not only does she struggle with getting the first serve in, when it does go in, it isn't much of a weapon. She gets a few aces but not like some of the other top players. Her second serve is usually a kick serve which is fairly good against most players. Collins was pouncing on it like no one I have ever seen. Muguruza beat Swiatek badly last year at Dubai, but it was not as dominant a win as this Collins match. Some commentators said that this may have been the best match Collins has ever played. I have never seen her play this well before.....not even close. She was going for winners immediately and getting a very high percentage of them. Everything was working for her. If she can maintain this level going into the Barty match, Barty will have her hands full. Collins beat Barty last year in Australia. Barty is playing at an extremely high level as well. She really has dominated every match so far. It will be interesting to see if she can neutralize the Collins power. Barty's serve is much better than that of Swiatek, so Collins will not be able to tee off on it like she did against Swiatek.

    Congratulations to Collins! Also to Iga, one of my favorites, I saw that coming and I wrote about after the last game. She is hitting the ball too high and when she play again a hard hitter she have no chances. Somebody wrote me back and say that is because she play like Nadal, but the problem is that the ball have no spin (Nadal produce around 5000rpm on the ball) That is how she lost first set again Kanepi until she got tired (she is 36). I think Iga should play more flat and hard on hard courts. Anyway, next one is the French open that I'm sure she have more chances on clay court.

    Swiatek put in lackluster performances in the last two matches with her returns and needless unforced errors (she was very lucky vs Kanepi tbh). She’s usually a very slick all-round player on a good day!

      The way Danielle Collins was playing, Swiatek and virtually the rest of the WTA could not have beaten her today. I watched all of Swiatek's matches last year because she is my favorite player. She has always had a fairly low first serve %. She didn't play poorly at all. The TV commentators said this was probably the best match that Collins has ever played. She was going for winners on nearly every point and she was hitting most of them. Collins was on fire. Swiatek's second serve is usually a kick serve and is fairly good against most players, yet Collins was pouncing on it at every opportunity and hitting brilliant winners. The match was on Collins racket today. Swiatek could not have beaten her on her best day. If Collins can keep this level going into the Barty match, she will give Barty all she can handle. Barty has a much better serve than Swiatek, so Collins will have a more difficult time of it. I have watched dozens of Collins matches, and this performance was the best I have ever seen from her......by far. She has always been aggressive, but she usually brings a lot of unforced errors with her power. Today she was nearly flawless.

    Is this 1st round or semifinal match? What a shame for women tennis. While some men matches lasted over 4 hours from the very early first round onward, this match just lasted a little over one hour. That's why I never understand why GS organizers applied equal prizes for both men and single, while in reality the quality is quite different. I am not racist, but that's the fact. Unfair fact!

    Collins is crazy but she played really well. She sure didn't seem very gracious at the net in her victory. Not the nicest girl on tour. I would have picked Swiatek to win before the match. Swiatek is a heck of a player.
    Bart however is playing in another time zone and Iook for him to dismantle Collins in straights. Would be shocking to see Collins beat Bart the way he has waltzed into the final.

    Barty has disposed of heavy hitters Anisimova (who laid waste to an in-form Osaka) and Keys. What makes anyone think Collins brings anything new to the table? Many comments hyping her game when few even heard of her 2 weeks ago 😆

    • @dbeaton1111
      @dbeaton1111 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's what I'm thinking. I've never seen Barty play better. She has one of the best serves in the WTA, her variety seems to neutralize the heavy hitters who depend on rhythm, and her slice backhand is solid against power and keeps her in rallies. She's not the same Barty who lost to Collins before -- she's better in every phase of her game. I used to think that future slam winners would all be cut from the same cloth, heavy hitters who can run like rabbits. Barty is proving me wrong. Collins, after years of problems with arthritis and endo, has her game together and is playing consistent tennis, but I don't think she'll be able to handle an in-form Barty. Barty's bh keeps the ball very low. Collins likes the ball in her strike zone.

    I was cheering for Iga but Danielle was my 2nd option (me, an ex-Floridian and fan of beautiful St. Pete = no choice) so win-win situation:). Danielle made fantastic progress since meeting between the two. Iga, I feel like is regressing, her serve is getting worse and worse and her game is also weak (getting to SF was more luck than real great game). She needs to cool her head - there is no fun in her game - just pressure. My 2 cents advice here would be to maybe finding a boyfriend/girlfriend. Other one would be to fire Daria and find real psychologist.
