Thanks for the tip about the educational store. I ordered a 48GB 14-core model.

Don't most students today want a laptop? And don't some colleges mandate Windows computers, at least in Engineering departments? The loaded Mini costs over $2K even on the EDU store.

Great choice! However, if you're not into the Apple ecosystem, I’d recommend considering a Dell Precision or Lenovo ThinkPad. I’d also suggest looking for refurbished models to save some money.

What computer do you use for programming?

I have an M3 Max Macbook Pro 36GB Ram 14”. I also have a M1 Mac Mini 16GB Ram as a desktop that I do smaller things on.
I want to get a M4 Ultra Mac Studio 256GB Ram when it comes out mid next year so I can experiment with LLM’s.

M4 Pro Mac Mini w/ 64GB RAM is a wonderful machine especially for Computer Science Major. 64GB works well for LLM, but actually 96GB is better.

Agreed but can’t get 96 in the Mini.
