Hi Everybody, Eric Campbell, a filmmaker and fan from Dublin put this mini-documentary together. It features interviews and performance clips as well as behind the scenes footage of what it's like to be in my band.
Thanks D., for the great band and strong interpretations of your father's prodigious catalogue. Thanks Eric for an understated, intuitive and well-rounded mini-doc. It's on my bookmarks.
Dweezil, I am a huge fan of your dad. I had the honor of seeing him perform in Detroit many years back and I think Frank would be very proud of you for never letting the music die.
Awesome, I'm 62 and used to listen to my older brothers records when he wasn't around and by 1975 I owned 24 records of Frank's. Saw him twice thank goodness
I'm so excited for everybody to see this. It really was a pleasure to work with some of the most talented, accommodating and fun people in the music industry. Thanks so much, Dweezil for all your help and guidance. I really hope everybody enjoys it :)
@@PhilipJoyceMusician Thanks so much dude.. I really appreciate that so much.. Hope to see you properly soon.. Maybe a Zappa riff for riff of the day ;)
I saw this band in Chicago. Go. It was one of the best concerts I’ve ever attended in my life. Go. Just...go. Crazy respect to Dweezil and crew for bringing this amazing music for people to experience live and at such a crazy-high level of musicianship and respect and love. Amazing show.
I just saw him at the Arcada theater 2 days ago, I am a long time fan who wanted to see Frank years ago, and it was a dream come true for me to see Dweezil and crew recreate the most stunning music ever written.
Dweezil has done a magnificent job of bringing Frank's music to a live modern day audience. It's not easy to learn and to play Frank's music. At his peak, Zappa's touring band members were expected to learn, know, and play over 100 songs from his extensive catalogue because, unlike most bands who learn a list of 12 songs that they play night after night, city after city, in the same order (w/ the same encores), Frank would often create the setlist(s) on the same day as the show and he would expect that his band to be able to play the setlist perfectly. Not only that, but Frank would, mid-performance, extemporaneously change the "feel" of songs (ie Reggae, Metal, etc) s.t even the band didn't know what to expect next. I don't know of any other artist/band leader, or touring bands, who can say that. For many millennia to come, Frank Zappa will be standing shoulder to shoulder with the likes of composer/performers like Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Strauss, Wagner, Debussy, Mussorgsky, Stravinski, T-Bone Walker, Root Boy Slim, et al.. whilst other performers will be long forgotten: "Ted Nougat? Who the fuck is Ted Nougat🤔? Never heard of him.
I've seen the Zappa band a few times. The saxophone player has been the one constant (other than Dweezil obviously) and she is off the charts. Some of her solos are mind-bending.
Big fan of Frank Zappa since '67. I went to Dweezil's first tour Zappa plays Zappa in Seattle, was a tear-in-eye sentimental experience for me. Saw him again in Seattle and met him. I was impressed with him as a man. Frank raised some classy kids. He spent, as it seemed, as much time with each fan, making the experience personable. He posed with me for a picture. His behavior honored the memory of his dad.
You got that right, those kids are a credit to Gail and Frank. Just think, the family got the piss taken out of them by certain media groups in the U.S. But time has shown that their upbringing has turned them into great, level-headed people.
His dad would be so proud of how great a musician Dweezil has turned out to be. He would also steal those killer musicians that Dweezil has gathered together. I love the fact he's creating his own music while keeping his genius father's music alive and most importantly, playing it well which isn't easy.
Mega FZ fan since 1974 I saw Frank twice with Bozzio, Mars , Belew . This lineup Dweezil has was absolutely the BEST concert I ever saw in my life. They are tight tight tight and boundless talent. I can go on for days. I can’t wait to see them again.
Oh my dear Lord - hearing you playing Zoot Allures gave me the goosies. Your old man is soooo proud of you. You are an excellent musician, composer and arranger - just like Frank. Your take on the immortal Inca Roads blasts through my headphones every weekend. All respect and peace and love from South Africa. Keep it up or else you might wind up working in a gas station. :)
Tons of respect to you Dweezil and band. I still haven’t seen you except on TH-cam, but made it to 14 of Franks’ secret word concerts of bliss! Met him too in of all places, a Baltimore Holiday Inn. I was 16. My last Frank show I was 29. Keep going. Want to see you soon!
Dweezil, thank you for keeping Frank's music alive. There's nothing better to a diehard Zappa fan than to hear his music and the stories from his musicians.
Thanx for this documentary. I´m listening to Franks Music for over 40 years now and I love to see like Dweezil and his young crew keeps his music popular. He does a really good job and I really like his set list. Wish to see you soon in Germany!
50/50 would be worth the price of admission. Was fortunate enough to see Dad Twice and Dweezil once. Was BLOWN AWAY how accurate it was. Hopefully will be able to see another Tour.
Hey I'm glad you're keeping your dad's music alive. Some of the best music I've ever heard I've been a fan of his since 1964 when I first bought "Freakout" . I saw his bands many times last time in Atlanta Georgia in the late 80s wonderful musician wonderful composer and far ahead of his time it's nice he has a son to help with his legacy.
Just subbed...ben huge Zappa fan for past 30 years ..some how ..every time Zappa plays Zappa came around in past I have had something going on..not last night..was at show in Ann arbor Michigan and honestly have seen hundreds of shows .. every body who is anybody in music business...and this was best show I have been too...the level of talent from dweezil and his band and of course Frank's music..my eyes welled up during show..as I stood there with a smile on my face... can't wait for them to come back to Mich 🎸🤘
I love the idea of the bigger picture .. what Dweezil does for the music world is priceless. He groups fantastic musicians around him and they keep Frank's music alive and give it a new shape. I saw them 3 times.. Sheila is always on fire and the band is so tight. Such a joy. It's not a matter of skill that nobody can match Frank's energy and what he brought out of his musicians. Once this is clear it's easy to stop comparing and we can enjoy music that never ceases to be amazing ..
Wow. I have been listening to Zappa since 1973, so there is not a single song in this documentary that I have not heard. So I know what the music sounded like then. What amazes me is how well Dweezil and his band recaptures and exceeds the statistical density of each and every score and riff. I come away each time loving more Zappa music each time.
My wife and I were fortunate enough to have seen Dweezil and his bad last year when they stopped by Albuquerque, NM. They played at the historic KIMO theater. It was an evening I will never forget. What a tight band he has put together. For them to have continued Frank's legacy is so awesome! The best part of the evening was how hospitable Dweezil and his band are as they always do a meet and greet ( for free ) with their fans after the show. Keep on rocking!
DWEEZ ...I've been listening to your family(in one way or another) since I was 8 ('74) ...I found LUMPY GRAVY and UNCLE MEAT ...And a Beefheart in the TRASH ! I have been really good since then . Coming to see you in LA on the 1st .. Drivin in from the desert ! BLOW OUR FREAKIN MINDS ! Thanks for all your family has given me in my life !
Went to see Dweezil a few years back in London. Before the gig, people were gathered ouside chatting and having a drink. Now I was 66 years old and a Zappa fan - but there were kids of 14 to 17 yr old gathered. They properly lectured me on Frank's work. Humbled.
I saw your dad 3 times in the 70s and I’ve seen you twice. All 5 shows were amazing. I’m so glad you’re doing your dad’s music with such love and serious musicianship. Thanks man!
Very very very good version of zpz band 👍 Excellent version of Florentine Pogen, each musicien got a real personnality used in the Frank's music, multiplicity of excellent voices, the sound is great, all is perfectly played. Well done.

Dweezil thank you for coming to Wilmington, Delaware earlier this month. It's such a small venue that anyone touring could easily overlook but you didn't and I'm thankful. You probably don't remember but I was fist in line at the meet and greet - the old bald guy. The show was fantastic as always - I can't get enough! Love all of you - thank you for what you do!

Sheer quality.
So glad Frank's music is alive and well.
Thank you Dweezil & all who work with you.
I'm 64 and have only recently come to appreciate Frank. A talented and super intelligent person. This band is great and I hear something reminiscent.
