Do you have a personal all-time favourite cinema as steeped in memories as Proust's madeleines? I know I do and mine has just been reborn...

I grew up in North Finchley and lived in the block of flats opposite the complex with the finchley lido and hollywood bowl alley and the cinema (the name of which I've forgotten now). I would regularly go with my brother, sister and uncle and have fond memories of the place 😊

Really enjoyable tour Mark... even though i'm a huge movie lover I rarely go to the cinema, probably cos most of todays big releases are shite... but I really should make the effort to go more.

My favorite theatre wasn't anything special but I do remember watching great movies there throughout the years. The Capitol Theatre, North Battleford, Saskatchewan...that's right, Canada. Where you can watch your dog run away for days.
I remember seeing Back to the Future, Batman (Tim Burton), each Lord of the Rings, as well as my favorite movie The Matrix.

@magiclightbox yes i keep missing the e in Staines. But its not my home town. I'm from Sunbury on Thames originally. Staines and Walton were the nearest Cinema's to Sunbury.

My favourite cinema was the original Stains odeon cinema. I think its demolished now. But it was a very important place in my child hood. I never saw what you would call important films there, well unless you count Beetlejuice, ET and Platoon. But it did have a smell and a look that you just don't have these days, and I'm not talking about the cigarette smell that all cinema use to have. I'm talking about non commercial class. Yes ,in Stains.

@thedynamitekidd same as our cinema in Durham, The Cannon, then it was a Robins cinema, then it closed down on the promise that we'd get another cinema in Durham. Instead we gor fobbed off with the "Gala" theatre, which is more a theatre/live venue, with a coupke of screens that seems to just show family/kiddie fare. No cinemas in county Durham at all, nearest is Gatehead which has an odeon imax now, and a UGC near Sunderland, mind, at least the UGC don't self censorship like Odeon.
