I called the air conditioning company and complained about the weak air coming out of the indoor unit. When they examined it, they found that the fan was dirty, so they used compressed air to remove the dirt from the fan. I noticed that they also blew from the top of the air conditioner fins from the top in order to get the dirt inside the coils out for cleaning.

I have just taken an air compressor in and blown off the fan. Gets it really clean. Makes a hell of a mess in the room but that's easier to clean up later. Especially if you just say "Sorry" and have your wife clean it up.😁

Yeah....that wasn't an option. It would be a crazy mess and the dust would go up into the coils. I thought about it

This will definitely help me in the future. Just installed one two months ago. Thanks for sharing 🤩👍.

I am going to try to soapy water on the wheel followed by a pump up sprayer for a rinse. I'll use an old blanket under the area where is it going to drip. A month ago I used a dry brush to knock the dust down. It came about 80% clean. Now last night I was noticing not much air was coming out. It seems that 20% dust that was left made it easier for it to load up again. I need to get it 100% clean so I am going to say the heck with it and make a mess. It was originally a year and a half before I had any problems. There are videos where you can tilt the coil slightly and slip the wheel out. I want to avoid that if I can because I finally got it to stop leaking. I had a slow leak and I pumped some coil sealer in there and it worked. I hate to get my leak back. Soapy water flush and a paint brush is what it is going to be. Thanks for the video.

I recently tried an air compressor with a long extended spray wand that I found at harbor freight. Yeah...it blows dust around but it is fast and you can spray out the coils too so it's kind of cool. I've only done it once and will have a better opinion on the 2nd time around. Your leak is probably dust clogging up the drain tube. The dust forms a dam in the drain pain and then the water spills over the edge of the pan and leaks down the wall. Just blow real hard into the end of the drain tube. That usually breaks the dust dam and it drains properly

How did you get the flap off to access that?!

    • @snakeclaw

There's a slide latch in the center. Once that's released you can pull the center outwards, bowing the flap, then pull the sides out

    how about compressed air?

I tried that. What occurs is most of the dust is blown back into the coils where I do not want it. Then it takes a long time and makes a mess to try to get the coils clean. Also it only removes the "easy" dust. It never gets the fan blades surface perfectly clean and the lasting effect is short lived as it gets dirty a few weeks later.

How do you remove the metal protecting fence inbetween the horizontal and vertical louvres?

You mean those wind directing flaps? The middle of mine has a slide latch that comes undone. Then it pries out. The other flaps snap in.

@@snakeclaw No, not the flaps. I think the question was, how did you remove the metal grate to get your brush in there? I'm about to clean the blower wheel without removing the entire cover assembly and the grate is in the way.

@@stepbackjack4194 I removed the direction flap. Then there are some hose plastic grates on mine. Maybe yours are different and made of metal? Mine are held on by a sequence of sliding one grate to the side to unlock it from a pin. Then it has these tabs that hold it down on the bottom of the grate that need to be pried up with a screwdriver. Once that's out of the way I can access the blower wheel. It's hard to explain this process but wasn't too hard.

@@snakeclaw Thanks for your reply. I have a Midea unit with a blower fan that is heavily laden with dust, dog hair, etc. Because of this, the cooling fins are not getting blown on; condensation forms and water starts to drip out. I'll look at it again and if I can't remove the grate, I'll bring out the dremel. Thanks again.
