This should have been the IET Festival at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. To hear David in person is another dimension in understanding the mastery of an instrument.
Hey David. This was initially the International Euphonium Institute from it's inception in 2003. I think it changed to the International Euph and Tuba (IET) Festival a year or so after this recording. I remember taking the survey to see if we should change the name! Thanks. Joel
I’ve never played an instrument or taken music lessons in my entire life and I so wish I did (I didn’t really have the opportunity to do so when I was young). There a lot of instruments that I really like and enjoy the sound of but the euphonium has such a warm and lovely sound to it. I really think I fell in love with it (thanks to Sound! Euphonium). I’ll give the euphonium a try when it’s possible and see if I can still love it like I do today. I think music as a side hobby would bring so much joy to life to me personally
I play the euphonium too, for about the past eight years, and still can't play this piece of music this well and I have the sheet music on the stand in my practice room and try it out often but my valves don't move as fast as the valves on this player's $1300 euphonium!
I will say that in my opinion, for euph, Czardas is easiest to play in C Minor. Not sure what the original key is, but C Minor seems to be easiest; David is playing it in Bb in this video.
i have it in the same key as his. thinking of i c would be very nice and fun to try it in, i believe its in Bb since that puts it in that pretty sounding euph spot
I played this in highschool for a competition on euphonium and used it not only to learn treble clef but also double and triple tongueing took me probably 6 months from start to finish but it was so well worth it
I envy his fantastic breath control Have heard violinists tear this apart. They sure can learn from Maestro DAVID.. :"hats off gentlemen; a Genius" to quote Robert Schuman and he was complimenting chopin"s piano playing 💯💯💯💯💯👏👏👏👏👏👏
I don't know but this guy is my inspiration to pick up my baritone or euphonium and practice cause one day I want to be as good as him or if it's even possible better
Nah the 30 quadrillion octave arpeggios. The INSANE QUINTUPLE TONGUING. NO STICKY VALVES. Plus bros playing the the trumpet range in a low brass instrument.
David Childs, What type of euphonium is it that you're playing in this video?! I've been playing euphonium since I was ten years old and I've never seen such a large euphonium! It looks more like a small tuba, but it still sounds great! Thanks for sharing this video with others!
@@JoelBurley It's a very nice instrument that I wish I could afford I priced it online and noticed they start for around $10,000; That's just way to rich for me!! I'll have to stick to my silver plated King euphonium! It plays fine for as old as it is! Thanks for replying to my last message.

FreezingGamer I thought he played a 2051 for the longest time, but there is a lot of conflicting information out there. On his website it says he plays a 2052.
From one euphonist to another...This is IT!!!
Just trying to imagine the articulation involved causes my mind to explode :) A very jaw-dropping performance!
omg he is the has one of the fastest, firmest tougues ever lol
Double and triple tounging
his face reaction says everything
This was a worthy time investment. Mr. Childs chops are insane. It is true craftsmanship how he can make such a technical showpiece musical.
Fantastic David - your performances honor our noble instrument!

That is a true performance from a dedicated Euphonium Genius. What a sound.
This is the level I strive to play at one day.
How do you sound now? Do you still play?
And then I realise that I suck at the Euphonium.

H4ttieSk3ttie I CAN move my fingers that fast! Pity I can't lip up each note, thus the biggest and longest fluff in history. Ar well, maybe one day.
Your girlfriend does too
H4ttieSk3ttie agreed
I can do that, but i wish i could tongue that fast!

Oh god... I'm trying out for some scholarships and I was looking for some easy-ish solos to do... definitely NOT this one.
exactly.
Minty Michaelis Share My Yoke is a nice piece when played by the Euphonium. It's extremely easy too.
Crazy Cipher
Thanks! I'll have a look.
Minty Michaelis Annie Laurie by Arthur Pryor is an easy read, yet sounds technical and expressive to an audience.
Blake Nelson Thanks!

This was just fantastic, and i love czarsas of Monti anyway. I listen to it in many versions, but never knew it was done on a tuba. GREAT, GREAT.
I saw it live in a church with the best norwegian tuba-player... ;) it was awesome!
Not a tuba
Tim Sierra Technically the Euphonium is a tenor tuba but you are correct it is not a tuba.
celticsheridan
He may have been referring to Oystein Baadsvick, a virtuosic tuba player
A guy in our band did a tuba version. I'm not sure I'd even heard it before he played it but it was amazing.
Bravo!! David is amazing
This was amazing !
amazing amazing brilliant !!!!!!

I never thought I'd hear a piece ive played on the violin be played on the euphonium
I feel sorry for the piano player trying to keep up with him!
No need to feel sorry for this wonderful pieanist. She can stay with the very best...that's why she returns to IET year after year!

Hey I actually recorded this years ago in Atlanta. I think Dave was using a Besson BE2052 Prestige Series Compensating Euphonium Silver.

Hello, good morning, I wonder if you could pass me the partiture for this song.

And then I saw this video... 🙁 So it is possible, just not for me. 🤪
Never seen playing like this....
Listen to `Hokazono Channel', he plays it even better!
Superlativo
I'm not sure if he's using alternate fingerings or if he's just not playing the same notes I have on my copy of this. Or maybe I'm just blind
On the high Gb you would normally play that 2+3. Whereas playing Gb with just 1 is out of tune. But he's going insanely fast that he can use 1 for Gb and no one is going to hear that it's out of tune because of the tempo.
+Jimmy Tran wouldn't Gb be second valve? I'm sure there's a combination for an alternative using the fourth valve
Anybody know what type of mouth piece he used

Not sure but I guess it's Alliance DC model

Does anyone know what size mouthpiece David Childs plays on?

Que tipo de boquilla de euphonion esta usando
hmmm i just realized that the intro to alejandro by lady gaga sounds exactly like the theme
does anyone know where i can find the sheet music for this arrangement?
You ever hear a screamer euphonium? 1:24, now you have
and this is why i’m happy i play a string instrument. I’ve never seen someone in so much pain while playing
Not in pain there is just much much more facial position and technique involved than you think and he has no sheet music infront of him
Wow...
Do you guys know what that mouthpiece is?
Does someone have the sheet??? i need this
It’s a nice solo when played as written, however the octave jumps into the high register in the beginning section don’t fit at sounds off.
What mouthpiece does he play on
how do you tongue that fast i would be chopping every note...lol
double tonguing
Triple tounging.

No one found this guy handsome as hell??
nope

Simple...enter David Childs, or Euphonium in the search list. You'll get buried in great performances.
Instrument model, ref??
I did this for a yr nine scholarship
