Steve was the top player for a number of years. I brought him out to Australia many years ago and he told me he was practicing 7 hours a day so there would be no excuses to make any mistakes. True to his word, he never made one single mistake all night. Steve is still very good, but he is not as perfect as he used to be.
When you play with a Jupiter euphonium given to you by the high school because you absolutely cannot afford your own euphonium but then you go to a Carols By Candlelight concert meaning to play trombone but your conductor asks you to play euphonium but you have already arrived so he offers you to play his with his washed mouthpiece and you agree and he arrives and gives it to you and then when you do sight reading when you perform but you realise that the whole time you’re playing you can’t get any wrong notes even if you try and your tone sounds so much better without even trying and you can suddenly play the high notes without trying and you know this is not because of the mouthpiece because you play with the exact same model of mouthpiece he plays with so you know it is the different model of the euphonium which is a York brand and you now find it’s exquisite in look and structure because it makes you sound better in every way and it makes playing easier for you in every way and then you finish the carols night and you come home and you watch a video of Steve Mead and you wonder what his euphonium would be like and you realise it’s probably a brand that doesn’t make anymore euphoniums entirely like your conductor’s because York doesn’t make any euphoniums anymore and you’re really sad because you wanted one for Christmas but you know you’ll never get it because your next best option is Besson and you’ve tried it but even though you like the sound you produce, it’s not comfortable at all so you are now sad because you wish you could meet Steve Mead and steal his euphonium and also have him as your tutor and his wife who also plays euphonium as your best friend because she is also amazing and so is every other euphonium player you have met and you also think that you’re lucky because your first euphonium tutor eventually became the best in Australia and you’re really proud of him and now the tutor you have is a pom and all you get to do when you’re in lessons with him is argue about which pronunciation of which word is correct because he is born and bred in England and you’re born and bred in Australia and you now are rambling on about your night and how you got to this point and now come to the conclusion that your euphonium life is not nearly as weird as you think because there are other people who say this is normal because they’ve all been through their euphonium crisis and you also realise that this is not true because you don’t have any euphonium friends except for your euphonium section in band who don’t talk to you because they’re snobs and they aren’t even considered friends and it doesn’t even look like they’ve ever been in a euphonium crisis and you’re also the only euphonium on your school and that euphonium section you were talking about earlier is a from a brass band outside of school and it is comprised of old people and maybe it’s the age difference that prevents them from talking but you still think they’re snobs because you try to make conversation but they don’t reply with so much as a yes or no so that’s cool but at the end of the day you just really want to meet Steve Mead and will be sad when someone better than him rises but you know no one will ever be as great as him because the only way you can beat him is if he fails himself because that is how good he is and he doesn’t make room for mistakes intentionally unless it’s for a good cause or something but I don’t really know anything so you just know that Steve Mead is great.
I have had the opportunity to meet Steven Mead on a few occasions and each time was amazing. The first two times, I was still in high school. He often played with The Brass Band of Battle Creek who performed in our school auditorium and he sat down with the Euphonium players and taught us some techniques. He played The William Tell Overture and played melody AND harmony simultaneously! It was awesome to play with him and he is a great guy!
God i dont believe they are that bad because every eupho section i come across is filled with players that are extremely good but are all snobs. I and my friend, from the euph section, are the only people who socialise with other players in the band. The rest of our section dont toalk to each other or anyone else.
If God descended from heaven and told his people "I grant thee only one item to tear a new asshole - choose wisely", I vote for a euphonium played by Steven Mead.
Tiffany W I agree. Maybe a 13 year old might get 2 shaky notes out of their baritone, but Steven is on a whole other level. He was practically playing 2 instruments at the same time and playing 2 parts simultaneously! Now that’s something no 13 year old can do! I’m a thirteen year old euphonium player and hope to be half as good as him someday!
David Andrawes there is a large difference between aspiring to master multiphonics and knowing it. All I’m saying is that I’ve played for quite a few years and haven’t even scratched the surface of multiphonics. There’s all of one brass player in my school who’s a all state tuba player 1st chair who can do it. It’s such a complicated topic that I highly doubt any 13 year old in the world knows multiphonics. I also do wish to be a good euph player in the future though just lots of practice and expose yourself all around. Maybe for solo ensemble arrange a Polka with some friends. It’s what I did the past year and planning to do this year again
who needs a low brass section when you can get this guy to play tuba, trombone, and euphonium with just the latter instrument
Euphonium Instructor: Here is a list of things you should never do in concert.
Steve Mead: Hold my beer...
彼の演奏技術のすばらしさに加えて、人を楽しませるという音楽の本質をガッツリつかんだこの演奏に見事に魅了されました。もうすっかりミードさんのファンになりました。
This man makes Asians applaud, respect him.
Lets be honest here... This is a five minute video of Steven Mead showing off. XD
that's what encores are FOR!! Where have you been?
Well u clearly arent 2019 6 year old comment!
@Simon Phillips We can schedule a clinic conducted by you and Mr. Mead, during which you can correct all his errors.
just watched the ted talk kid who "gives euphonium a new voice" and I'm way more impressed with Steven Mead

That kid has awful tone
The best euphonium player ever in the UNIVERSE.
Yes i agree
I loved how he was humorous the whole time! Don't find people like that everyday do yah?
I heard him play this live - very impressive!

best comment ever!
Anyone else not get to the end of this comment?
Cool story bro
I read half of that
OK. So you discovered words and spaces. Now graduate to sentences and paragraphs.

This guy’s astounding!! He’s showing off but inspiring those kids like nothing else could.
Love how he isn’t using the keys all the time, just for a few times, and is adjusting it with his mouth for the first one he played

The reaction of some of the kids are just awesome! They seem the wonder if they may smile...
If you told me Steven Mead could play the euphonium without using his lips, I would believe you.

Потряс!😨😨😱😱👍👍👍
🙏
HE WENT TO MY SCHOOL!!!
Around 2:48 sounded like a part from carnival of Venice
That's because it was a part from Carnival of Venice.
Bruh he literally performs that piece so often
Is the song at 2:48 "Rock Around The Clock"
sounds similar...it definitely matches the time period that song was released though
Just an ordinary walking bass line
I think it sounds more like a jazzed up version of Trombone Boogie
His tongue had to be tired from all the double and triple tongue. But I am sure he is use to it from all the years of playing but still.
I mean, the tongue is just a muscle after all. If you train it enough, it can do this stuff for days xD
what is the song at 2:48?
que isso pensei comigo de quantos anos precisaria pra poder tocar assim e me me veio a seguinte resposta todos kkkkkkkk
Steven Eufonium M(e)adness !!!!!
Suber!
Tre bela!
im 13 and im a baritone player he is great
As am I and my multiphonic is more advanced than his lol, but he's a legend 👏
Vince Jansen a thirteen year old with better multiphonics than the goat himself of euphoniums? When pigs fly

lmao im 14 and have never heard of multiphonics till after seeing the legend himself in this video. also nice to see fellow euphonium players here : )
I'm not sure if I should be inspired by him, or if I should just chuck my horn away since I'll never be able to do that. :p
It's been 8 years since you made that comment, you still playing euphonium?
😮
Молодчина мужичок!
