I agree. I’m medium height and I always found sparring with shorter opponents to be difficult. I just can’t generate as much power punching down at something.

When people are asked who’s the greatest heavyweight of all time it’s always a toss up between Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson. Why is that? Is everyone delusional or do they all have their heads stuck in the hot porridge? I don't know much about boxing but lately I've been enjoying watching some matches. The thing that strikes me about Tyson is his alertness to opportunity. He observes very well and strikes precisely. He seems so at home in the ring. What seems like chaos to many is where Tyson thrives.

    • @ArcoZakus

      Bruce Wilson,
      "... alertness to opportunity ..."
That probably came from his starting out as a kid fighting on the streets. Less restrictive rules to protect either opponent, and the resulting higher risk of injury, required that.

Probably incorrect. Tyson lost leverage and power against much taller fighters. Ribalta is an excellent example. He did not have a great deal of power and lost consistently to top-flight heavyweights. Certainly the first three you mentioned are the same height with much more power. Wilder there is not a skilled fighter, so an early variety of Tyson with excellent skills and Kevin Rooney in his corner would have caught and finished him, but the other two would be too much.

Tyson and Marciano had very similar styles, deadly in range and seemed to be impervious to counter punches. Amazing.

Nothing but respect for Iron Mike. The prefight stare was like Mike looking into his opponent's soul. I'm sure he could see, feel and project their defeat before the match started. They should not have made eye contact with him.

Not even close! sugar Ray Leonard, Floyd Mayweather, Calzaghe, Roy Jones Jr. and many others were better boxers. Ali and Lewis were better boxers, but only one or two boxers rivaled iron Mikes power(big George Foreman in his prime had huge power). Mike was a good boxer, but his power in both hands was incredible, if he got one clean punch the fight was very likely over. Best boxer? Not even close! Most powerful puncher? Probably! Most exciting heavyweight of all time? Without a doubt!!!
