They seem resentful and annoyed at having to do the prehistoric segments lol, I get the sense that everyone involved wanted a regular nature doc.

Prehistoric Planet is a world: very late Cretaceous. That’s another kind of documentary.

Watched the whole series. Definitely breathtaking for sure. Great job guys!
The locations you chose are a bit weird. There is clearly grass visible in this "Triassic" setting, yet you emphasis major beats in plant evolution throughout the series. And while all the terrestial Paleozoic & Triassic scenes were shot on location, you go for completely CGI habitats for some of the later Mesozoic & Cenozoic scenes - when UNLIKE the Paleozoic - the flora WAS very similar to today and could be shot on location without too much trouble. Why did you make these seemingly contradictory decisions? Why not reconstruct long lost plant lineages when you clearly had the means to do so? We don't need CGI pines next to a hunting T. rex, we need CGI plants in the Carboniferous.
Don't try and emphasis plant evolution if you don't even care about its history.
This! But also is annoying how they are mostly focused on modern life.
There are barely few minutes focused on prehistoric life in every episode.
Also mostly focused on already well known species, especially in case of dinosaurs.
Also blatant biases for mammals. Mammals are the best in everything!

I have enjoyed the series but I do feel like the dinosaurs were unfortunately not given much screen time and the modern day wildlife took up far more even in the episode about the dinosaurs reign in the Mesozoic
They were put in the background of their own episode with more time given to ants/termites and snakes for example which I know lived with the dinosaurs but those episodes were supposed to be about showing the dinosaurs as they're the stars of the Mesozoic.
I say this with the utmost respect for what your team has done but I'm looking forward to the last two episodes about prehistoric mammals

Honestly? Good. We have a million and one documentaries on dinosaurs, it's nice for other things to take the spotlight for once.
@@PootPootMagoot In the episode dedicated to their time on the planet? By that logic why bother even showcasing the most successful animals the planet has ever seen in the story of prehistoric life to today.

@@josh-themighty9967 Because there were several key evolutionary innovations that happened during the Mesozoic that resulted in a lot of species we see today, and arguably had a way bigger impact on life on our planet (hint) than non-avian dinosaurs did. This documentary was all about showing how modern biodiversity came to be, and while dinosaurs may have been the dominant vertebrates at the time, the Mesozoic was the origin for angiosperms (~300,000 known species), whose evolution kickstarted the massive diversity of Hymenoptera (~150,000 known species) and Lepidoptera (~180,000 known species) and literally changed the face of our planet. Just because they're not the "big flashy" dominating species doesn't mean they were any less important to cover, and it's not like dinosaurs didn't get any screentime... they had a big chunk of episode1, a lot of episode 5 and most of episode 6 dedicated to them.
@@josh-themighty9967 Also most successful how? They were not the animal group with most biodiversity (lots of insect orders beat them in total known species, even with the inclusion of modern birds), they are not the group that has lasted the longest (ammonites, trilobites, sharks, pseudosuchians etc. all have been around for a longer period of time, even with the first two being extinct groups) - what metric are you using to say they're **most** successful? I don't think anyone doubts they were a dominating vertebrate group and a successful lineage, but the only ways they were **most** successful was in physical body size (in the case of sauropods) and in their popularity today. You know what you could argue are the **most** successful groups alive today using some of the metrics I mentioned? Angiosperms and insects, aka what the episode focused on :)
This is coming from someone hugely interested in dinosaurs by the way, they were impressive, but other aspects of the Mesozoic world were also hugely impressive and are often overlooked in documentaries... it's nice for a documentary to _not_ pretend that the evolution of dinosaurs is the only thing going on at that time.

One thing that bugged me is you showing the deinonychus pack hunting when we have no evidence, and looking at modern birds of prey i find it would be much more likely that they hunted alone or in mated pairs
They are not those birds.
@@Heisenberg841 But they are the closest living relative, and so the best thing to look at when deciding on behaviour. We also have Deinonychus tracks and they only show one animal's footprints. Evidence suggests they may have been solitary, it's an assumption that they hunted in packs.

Im only 30 so my first dino documentary was" walking with dinosaurs " " allosaurus" cassette movie, it's insane how far we've come since then, the detail in the skins and feathers, the movements of each limb, the noises, this is a work of art. THANK YOU
The imagery was great. Shame about the heavy footfalls of the large dinos. Elephants are incredibly light on their feet, so surely any massive animal would be?

I love this new documentary about the prehistoric era when dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures ruled the Earth for millions of years. In the behind the scenes they use cardboard, puppets, and other stuff to pretend that they are prehistoric creatures. Love this show. Thank you.

Honestly, it’s not the best of the best documentary series, but it has sunshine’s here and there let’s just say that
There are two things I appreciate about it. 1. The connections between prehistoric life and modern living things is something that undersold in a lot of paleo documentaries. I like that it unifies life by using footage of living animals to accentuate the points made about prehistoric ones. 2. Analyzing life on our planet from beginning to current. It only a glimpse, and very fleeting moments with many familiar faces, but viewers have a great intro to the variety of living things that came before us!

I really like Life on our Planet it was very enjoyable. What I did not like was that dinosaur models look more than monsters than scientifically correct ones (normal animals)
oh cmon why do they have to be nothing like animals i mean check out crocodiles and alligators they look like monsters

I disagree with the statement @8:40 and the visual shown afterward. To my eyes, all the color correcting, brightening added to super pristine CG animation makes for a scene that just feels fake. I did however still enjoy this series. Well done.
Why did you guys have a Pliosaur at the end of the Cretaceous? They died out 25 million years before that
And that's not even biggest issue in documentary.
Narrative sounds so outdated, like Morgan Freeman is reading from some outdated encyclopedia from the 60s... that just happens that I have.
While true pliosaurs were long-extinct by the end of the Cretaceous, there were still short-necked plesiosaurs like polycotylids.
@@ShadowsAndScience Yes but the one in Life on our Planet looked much more like a pliosaur.
@@ExtremeMadnessX Freeman in the documentary also refers to Lystrosaurus as a "mammal ancestor" and that is also absolutely wrong. Gorgonopsids were closer related to mammals than lystrosaurus was. Mammals descended from cynodonts that survived the great dying independently of lystrosaurus

U should of showcased ever time era and spercific well known creatures in different parts of the world
They say properly meeting dinosaurs with Plateosaurus yet we only see it for 2 minutes on screen

I liked the series but still can’t get over the two very noticeable mistakes made in the series.
What are those mistakes?
There were a few. Two biggest ones where they called a pliosaur a plesiosaur; now its not a mistake if their referencing the entire clade (technically).
But in the video they refereed to a specific species as a plesiosaur which by species it wasn't.
Plesiosaurs had long necks to help with feeding. Where pliosaur had little to no neck and looked a bit like a mosasaurus.
An the other mistake was audio one. I can't remember which episode it was. The shot looks out on the Savanna with mostly wilder-beast on it and someone shouts, "Hey."
The other thing was the Cave Lions hunting Mammoths.
The Mammoth hunting is shown in such an exaggerated way, with cave lions overpowering a mammoth in comical fashion in a matter of seconds.
Watch a modern day pride of Lions take down a teenage African Elephant.
It takes hours and by then the elephant has called for reinforcements from the herd. Usually the herd intervenes and the elephant escapes.

Another one is Anchiornis been blue instead of black, since it's the very few dinosaurs we actually know the colors of
It's a great docu. But with adding Prehistoric Planet, it lacks a lot. To me it's only that the Panthera Arctos(cave lion) is hissing at a mammoth. And that single one can take down a mammoth in the verge of adulthood with just one point. Also that you added JW apatosaurus face on diplodocus. Same for Triceratops. And that a juvenile trex can give a heavy scar to an adult Strike, and that is also abble to bite it's tail off+ you made rex sprint in (lemme say) slow motion. And that you make sauropod gallops, with it being Alamosaurus weighing around 50 tonnes. The biggest issue on this docu is allosaurus, this needs no explanation. This was my opinion, no hate comments.
Yeah, when I heard there was allosaurus involved into the series I was so excited..... then I seen the model of it and honestly until it was said that it was allosaurus I didn't believe it.
Was very disappointed there to be honest. The crocodile scuted backside, the crests. I think fantastic on a lot of things, but there are those... moments of well *rain* preventing *sunlight.*

The CGI is very bad. In terms of quality, it can be compared to Hollywood films from the first decade of 2000, with a few exceptions. The whole series is confusing.
The quality was inconsistent throughout the entire show. Some models like the doedicurus, the megaceros or the lystrosaurus had incredibly detailed and well crafted CGI. But then you had some awful stuff like the prehistoric lama, the anomalocharis or the Dunkleosteus. And don’t even let me start with the CGI environments who looked disgustingly fake.
The quality and CGI is excelent
I was very disappointed with the series. It was a dirty game, my perception was that less than 10% of the series' time was dedicated to animals from the past. The rest of the time was filled with images (dazzling, truth be told, but to divert attention from the scam) of current life.
and we also used jurassic world models with minor tweaks :) whxih makes a documentary inaccurate :)
I still like it more than PP but I didn’t care for how often it skipped around in eras.

I didin´t like te animation, in some shots looks very unreal, an the behaviors were pretty predictibles.
Prehistoric planet has done a better work on how te dinosaurs look with te invroment, and the animation looks very real.
I could tell from the trailers this would be a pretty subpar doco, especially in light of the spectacular Prehistoric Planet.

You meant "Adding The Dinosaurs To The Real World". As technicians you should know that you cannot "film" without celluloid film strips like 35mm, IMAX, etc. With digital cameras; which is what you used, you record vídeo, you don't "film". And if you used the title "Recording The Dinosaurs In The Real World" instead, the title would be still incorrect because they had to be there when you pressed Rec. You are the ones making the documentaries, get the basics right before teaching them wrong.
It's anachronistic language, it's everywhere. Like how we say "rewind" even on digital media, when that word comes from when media was on reels of tape. Would you like to do away with calling a movie a "film" too because most movies are shot digitally now? Your pedantry is misplaced here.
