Is the check center free? I've never used it. I just go to the windows, do the payment, then do the course. Inside the building, the charge about ¥1000 to write up the paperwork. I'll have to try the check center next time.

The check center is about ¥1,500. And they adjust the lights and everything to make sure you pass the first time.

@@JapanSurvivalGuide, that's about the same price as paying for them to do the paperwork inside the shaken center. Good deal as you get the precheck. It always makes me nervous doing the course that I'll not pass. Better to know ahead of time that everything is OK. I'll use the check center next time. Good video.

The check center fills it out for you in Toyohashi. There is a service available in the shaken center that will fill it out for you for a couple thousand yen.

    Hi,
I have some questions regarding user (self) car inspection (shaken).
(About to move in to Japan)
I usually maintain my car such as engine/brake oil, ATF/differential/power steering fluid, etc in my country and I’m also going to maintain my own car in Japan as well (planning to purchased used Nissan Fuga or so).
Will user shaken require me to fix/replace even unnecessary parts although car’s condition is good and well-maintained if they see me as a foreigner?
I heard many bad stories about shaken..

They don't care about your engine oil. They will check that your VIN number matches up with the engine and that the wheels are the correct size. If you put oversized tires on your car and your car is not registered for them, then you would have to put the original tires back on to pass. I've never done that myself but that's what I've heard. All shaken, User or not, will check under the car to make sure that all boots and rubber things around the wheel are tip top. It won't pass if they are cracked. This last test, my car is old and I had just gotten them fixed up but the guy was looking extra hard. He told me twice to crank my wheels to the left and right so he could inspect all around there.

@@JapanSurvivalGuide Thank you for replying. Did you fix them by yourself,
Or how much did you pay if you went to some repair shops?
