I've had my pair of budgies for about two months, and another for about three weeks. I played this video and they all finally let me hold them on one hand, take pictures and videos, and let me set them back in the cage while they hopped off my hand one at a time. My heart is melting. 😭❤️ New favorite video.

They will become antisocial and stop eating, because all they want is the bird of his/her dreams, which is themselves
Female budgies are affected the most, they will overlay eggs and it will eventually lead to egg binding, where the egg gets softer and softer due to calcium deficiency, shells will become soft and will lead to getting stuck in a female, which leads to death!!
@@riddlemefish6217 that’s not true, my budgie is playing with the mirror for the last 3 years and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with him, my other female budgie (his wife) has also laid eggs and they have also hatched in absolutely perfect condition

I had a beautiful budgie. One day he had a fluffy feather stick to his beak. I tired to tell him, but of course he didn't understand. But when he went to his mirror, he instantly removed the feather from his beak. That strike me like a thunder, as I had no idea these little creatures are so intelligent. Unfortunately this little jewel died a year ago. I still miss him. I have a quaker that has other type of intelligence. He talks (sometimes in context), sings opera...but I am not sure at all he recognizes himself in a mirror. Actually he has no mirrors in his cage, but when he was near a big mirror in our home he didn't seem interested, but he never flied into it...

uppanadam74 that's not good for your bird if he doesn't have a partner!! mirrors can cause serious behavior problems as your budgie might think it is another budgie, and could try to preen, feed, or talk to the other budgie when they aren't even there..
Doesn't seem to bother him!! I've tried putting another bird in with him...all they did is fight and argue!! So I had to separate them!! He seems fine and happy and plays with his human too!! So I'm happy with that!!

Carol Wade can u stop with that whole cage situation. The birds in the pet shop are used to being fed not looking for food.They might get freedom when released but won't survive.Plus this guy let's his birds fly around the house

I have two parakeets, Lemondrop and Tweetopolis. I purchased Tweetopolis at a Bird Store and about a year later I adopted Lemondrop (I named her) from the Humane Society. I kept them in two cages for awhile. Tweetopolis could not WAIT TO GET UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL with Lemondrop and like a fairy tail...they fell in love and are inseparable. They have each other but they still love to interact with mirrors. Check my video out when you get a chance!

He started by telling Mirror bird to follow him and when he didn't, proceeded to convince him. He described how fantastic it was where he is; no predators, perfect temperature, no cold rain, lots to eat and drink, a safe place to sleep at night. But, he would have to put up with this weird, but kind and gentle ape, and his toys.
Then after all that, Mirror bird still did not follow and so he became Angry bird, and that's a no-no unless you're ready for some beakbutts.
PS: I believe we just witnessed over an hour of your bird becoming angrier and angrier which I know a caring person, such as yourself, would never intentionally do.

Thank you on figuring out male and female. All this time, I thought my Elbe was alive and my new one was a female. Elge (L G) survived and Elbe is gone. Xandra has now become Xander. They're sitting in their cage listening to this little guy sing and talk.

A mirror ist not a good choice for a budgie. Budgies don't live alone, but in groups. If you are using mirrors, your bird will think that what he sees in the mirror is a real budgie an could try to feed him or flirt with him. That could occure some serious behaviour problems!!
Sometimes it's good to give them a mirror if you are out of the house, but yeah I agree it's definitely not a long term solution :) I think this budgie does have friends though :)
Caging a bird is cruel. Think about it. They are taken from their beautiful homeland to be caged and never fly freely in the nature they were made for.
All caged birds develop abnormal habits, such as lifin one leg, then another, repeatedly. I've even seen people laugh and write that their bird "dances." They know nothing about birds, at all. A bird becomes very stressed in a cage, and letting it "out," to fly a bit around the house isn't the same as flying up to three miles in its homeland with its flock (chosen by the bird). It's cruel to put a bird in a cage. It was born with wings. Does that tell anyone anything? It's not a domestic animal like a dog or cat. ****November 10, 2017****Friday****
