Since I've already finished most of the Halo games I thought I would react to HiddenXperia's Extensive lore video that delves deeper into the background and the lore of the flood from the halo series.
The Flood are a species of highly virulent parasitic organisms that reproduce and grow by consuming sentient life forms of sufficient biomass and cognitive capability.
The Flood presents the most variable faction in the trilogy, as it can infect and mutate Humans and Covenant species, such as Sangheili and Jiralhanae, into Combat Forms. They are widely considered to be the greatest threat to the whole existence of life, or more accurately, biodiversity, in the Milky Way galaxy.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection is a compilation of first-person shooter video games in the Halo series, originally released in November 2014 for the Xbox One, and later on Microsoft Windows through 2019 and 2020. The enhanced version was released for the Xbox Series X|S in November 2020

Captain Keyes was still conscious while the gravemind in Halo CE was consuming his mind, that's how he was able to talk to us. The only thing keeping him afloat was his CNI transponder since it was the one inorganic thing connected to him and the flood couldn't consume it. He kept repeating his name and service number as those were imbedded on his transponder, he knew that the battle he was facing was one he could not lose no matter what since the flood would learn everthing about humanity making them easy pickings. He was on the verge of losing and he started to panic after hearing Master Chief and Cortana on the comm channels and tried to tell chief to leave him and not be a fool. Right as he lost the battle, Master Chief ended the captain's life when he used his hand as a makeshift shovel to scoop out the CNI transponder to get the codes needed to blow the Autumn's fusion core safely.
I heard he was repeating his name and service number as that is what soliders are trained to do under interrogation and torture. The grave mind was trying to get information from him.

@@Muddfeet64 Even without the chip, I know he was fighting hard. I read the book, the chip just allowed him to hang on longer than he would have without it.
That want even a full gravemind yet, it was a proto-gravemind which is significantly weaker but it kinda makes me shudder to think what would've happened it the flood had managed to construct a full Gravemind on installation-04

The Flood, in my eyes at least, is probably the single most terrifying enemy I’ve ever encountered. They can’t be entirely killed off, and the possibility of a massive force arriving from outside the galaxy is an ever present threat. The more the consume, the smarter and stronger they get, making them even harder to fight.
They're amazingly scary and it's awesome!
I agree, the Flood is Halo’s version of an eldritch horror, always present, ever lurking, never truly defeated, and they have the patience to win eventually. It’s only a matter of time. You can’t stop them, you can only slow them down
I recommend watching the Templin Institute breakdown of The Flood as a faction, because the ending quote is genuinely bone-chilling.
A Flood horror game where you play as a group of ODST or Spartan 4s (Maybe even throw in one of the surviving Spartan 2s) would be really cool. Maybe a flood research facility on one of the Halo rings has a containment breach and you have to escape the ring. Maybe the first half of the game is escaping the ring and the 2nd half is finding out a flood infection form snuck onto the space ship you guys left on and starts turning the crew

Actually, as the UNSC is decommissioning the Halo arrays, whenever they find facilities they suspect contain Flood specimens, they don't even risk trying to destroy them, and all non-Spartan personnel are practically banned from the area. It is protected around-the-clock by S-IV's, and their next-gen MJOLNIR has a special failsafe if it detects even trace amounts of Flood infection within the wearer: it automatically triggers the armor's self-destruction protocol.
In the event the failsafe fails to trigger, it is UNSC protocol for the ranking officer to declare Codeword: CORRUPTER.
Codeword: CORRUPTER enacts several changes to the UNSC rules of engagement until the outbreak is absolutely confirmed to be contained. Here are some of the big ones:
- All S-IV's who are NOT specifically designated for Flood containment, as well as anybody who is NOT an S-IV, are to immediately fall back and either establish a robust perimeter or submit to quarantine.
- Specially trained and armed S-IV fireteams will be deployed to the area to clear it out.
- You are prohibited from rendering aid to a wounded soldier.
- All restrictions on WMD's are lifted for the duration. MAC weapons, nukes, and other such types of extreme ordnance may be deployed with 0 regard for collateral damage to UNSC personnel OR nearby civilians.
The UNSC isn't fucking around when it comes to the Flood. There's no middle ground, no escalation of force. If the Flood even slightly breach containment, they go full-send.
The one time it's been confirmed that Codeword: CORRUPTER was enacted, a single Flood combat form managed to make it onto a UNSC Condor before the area was nuked to hell and back.
And UNSC Condors have Slipspace drives.
I actually played a match of Combat Evolved Slayer on Master Chief Collection today with Hidden Xperia. He's a great guy and this particular video is one of my all time favorite videos of his. Great reaction! 😅
I highly recommend Installation 00 for lore, specially the flood.

Did anyone else actually read the books about these stories before they saw the video. About 3 years ago I read about the gas mine story in the book "Halo fractures," and even about 2 years before that I read "halo the flood." Which focused on combat evolved and the survivors of the pillar of autum.
before keys was tuned into a flood form and his experience fighting for control over his own thoughts while the gravemind was trying to convince him to give in right before chief could get to him.
The book then talks about Jenkins and the pain he went though just like in the video. But the video does not say how he died. Jenkins lost and regained control of his body multiple times trying to ask someone to shoot him and finally someone points a gun at him and he is finally happy that he can die knowing that the infection from will die with him.
I love the books just because of the sheer amount of information that you can get from them. If you love Halo than you would love the books and how well the story was set up for games and books about before the events of combat evolved and even halo reach.
like the book Harvest, which is probably my favorite book because it focuses on Sargeant Jhonsen, and explains how the human covenant war was started.
If you want to read the book stop reading this and get the book. But if not.
The the human covenant war basically starts over a basket of fruit. Yes, the covenant patrol that found harvest was lead by the chieftain of the brutes at that time, who was the uncle of Tarturas the chieftain of the brutes in halo 2.
The covenant were looking for forerunner artifacts and harvest had many under the surface of the planet. Tarturas wanted to kill everything on the planet and take the planet for themselves, but his uncle wanted to have a more peaceful resolution to the situation due to a sign welcoming all aliens to the planet.
The chieftain thought that they could make a deal with the humans and dig for the artifacts. Finally the brutes arranged a meeting with the humans which Sargent Jhonsen oversaw.
They could not speak to each other due to this being their first meeting one another.
So the humans offered a basket of fruit to the brutes and the brutes rejected the gift and drew a circle on a pad and showed it to the humans. The humans eventually figured out that the brutes wanted the planet.
While they were trying to figure out how to solve that problem, a brute got impatient and hit a human to hard killing him. The humans started to fight back and from then on the covenant saw the humans as a threat.
Oh yeah absolutely love the origin story of the War. Fruit baskets and trigger happy grunts leads to attempted genocide. Haha and the mistranslation of reclaim to reclaimer is so funny to me for some reason, because it is a mistake we as humanity could have easily made and not known.
I am confused tho, did they change Jenkins to die from a gun shot? Because in the halo nov, Jenkins is able to convince an ODST captain to destroy the covenant ship they were on because of how extensive the infection was within the ship, and her captain being giddy about bringing home a specimen to study. Did they change it?
Hey! Hidden Xperia has some really great videos, but I think other channels should be mentioned as well. Installation00 has very high quality lore videos, maybe check out his video named “Greatest Spartans”? He talks about the Spartans who may be the best from each class (Spartan IIs, IIIs and IVs). Also, I have no idea if you’d be interested in it, but Halo Canon has some interesting Halo book breakdowns. I realize you may not have the time to read Halo books from here to Infinite’s release, so maybe watching his video on Halo: Shadows of Reach (which acts as a prequel for Halo Infinite) could be a good alternative to reading the book. Anyhow, really nice to see you enjoy Halo enough to go out of your way to watch outside stuff. Keep up the awesome content! :)

HiddenXperia is known as the lore guy in the halo community. Back when halo was still dry with no content he said on one of his streams he made a video that was something like, “What if the flood invaded Russia?” or something like that cuz he was desperate for content.

Scariest thing is, even here IRL there's a chance that something like the Flood might exist. Maybe even within the vision range of our telescopes...
Fun fact: if someone were to pit the flood against another faction from another video game franchise, they usually always come out on top. Pit them against Warhammer 40k? They consume everything.
Put them against the star trek universe, they consume everything.
If it remember correctly, the only faction they couldn't consume were the demons from the doom franchise. The demons multiplied trillions of times faster than the flood, and their insane body Heat would just melt through the flood

The flood are probably my favorite enemy in the series, just how creepy they are and the first time they appeared in halo combat evolved had me as a kid freaking out😶🌫️😶🌫️😶🌫️also, I think he does a great job with his lore videos! If you get the chance to you should watch the covenant lore videos, there’s covenant characters that I think chief wouldn’t be able to win against and HiddenX does a really good job getting into the detail of them.

They’re such a unique and frightening enemy.
I remember when I first encountered them in the first game all the way back in 2003 as a teenager. I was fighting aliens, leaving memories in my wake, then I got dropped off in a swamp and walked into a nightmare. I found out very quickly that the pistol is useless, they’ll absorb a clip from the rifle, but shotguns work very well, too bad ammo is rarer than an uninfected corpse on those levels. I remember when I finally got back to fighting regular Covenant, I was legitimately happy to see them

Mix in fungus, neural physics and that the flood is litelarly corrupted Precursors that were near living time and space. In short the Flood is corrupted, organic space time. Yeah it beats alot of other sci-fi horrors out there..

I think a for a horror game playing as a marine/ODST/elite in the human-covenant war era would be better. Ancient humanity/the forerunners were pretty OP and much more likely to to fight back against the flood than “present day” humans
Would love that. Ancient humans were adding and feeding their pets abd livestock with seemingly harmless yet unknown to them, corrupted precursor dust.. Ancient humanity and their allies the san shyum prophets ate the infected animals that seemed to be more vital, lively due to the dustpowder. Then.... mutations sprang up on all the planets that had populations which fed on infected livestock. Animals and those who ate them grew te drils, ate eachothet, mutated, birth defects, abortions and all kinds of mess..

I wanted to say, "Look at the bright side, at least it's not the Tyranids from Warhammer 40k or the (please do not look this up) Daemonculaba from the same 40k universe," but after Hidden Xperia's videos about the Flood, I can only say that Master Chief will save us....right?
Sidenote, ONI has/had done some really freaky and somewhat controversial things in the Halo Universe.

You've not watched his videos on the gravemind specifically. If you think the flood are terrifying through these videos, get this.. the graveminds are only when the flood amass enough bodies to make it. Through the gravemind the average flood form gets soo much more intellegent, as the flood start strategising and using more of their retained memories to their advantage. But once they consume an entire planet the gravemind evolves into a keymind.
The keymind is so unbelievably powerful and intellegent it can quite literally bend time and space to its will.

Loved the video! Honestly though i think if it had a better narrator it’d be better cause i don’t like this persons voice. Can’t help it so please don’t hate me. But yeah loved the video
