This view is from the starboard side, and shows the starboard engine and prop. The sound that the props make is very fascinating to me. They make you basic "box fan" sound in full idle and taxiing. In takeoff and inflight at 1,500 RPM, the props buzz like the wings of a bumblebee, creating the bass hum and vibration that you get inside the cabin. You probably get the most noise and vibration if you're seated right between the props. On the computer or TV screen, the props are very interesting to watch, because the 60 cycle flicker creates optical illusions of the props going slow or backwards.
Many say that driving a vehicle with a manual transmission is "real driving." I say that flying in a propeller driven airliner is "real flying". Those who are not observant do not realize that the turboprop engine is a jet engine with a propeller attatched. If you listen to the engine as it fires up, and hear the jet whine it makes as it gains speed, you can tell that it's indeed a jet engine, and not an old fashioned piston driven propeller engine, like those of the old Dougless DC-7. Another name for a jet engine is "gas turbine engine".
It's my understanding that turboprop engines are more fuel efficient than conventional fan jet engines. In theory, an Airbus A-320 with four six bladed turboprops, would use 40 percent less jet fuel, than with the two fan jet's, but the down side would be 80 or 90 mils and hour slower in cruising speed. It woud make a significant difference on a cross country or overseas flight. But on a flight from Charlotte North Carolina to New York LaGuardia, only 15 to 20 minutes added to the flight time. I think it would be worth those extra few minutes to save jet fuel, and the planet.

Awesome video! I love the Fokker 50, though I haven't flown in one for several years, I'd probably make this trip just to get to fly in one, do you know if they always use the Fokker 50 for these trips? :)

I'm a big fan of turboprop airliners. I wish that the Airbus A 320 was s turboprop airliner, instead of fan jet.
Many, who are not observant don't know that the turboprop engine is a jet engine with a propeller attatched. The bass hum, heard on takeoff and inflight inside the cabin, lead many of those people that it's an old fashioned piston driven engine. If you listen to the engine when it fires up, you hear the whine of the jet engine as the propeller starts to rotate and gain speed.
