I love your work and your enthusiasm! Currently knitting Stick Season and loving it. Daft Days next. Regarding your question about timescales for testing, I'd just like to say please don't compromise high standards and thoroughness for the sake of meeting a self-imposed deadline. Sometimes things don't go according to plan, and when that happens, pause, take stock and adjust timescales if necessary. You're establishing yourself as a credible designer and the last thing you need is to be known for poorly written patterns with inadequate testing. It's simply not worth it in the long term.

Congratulations on 50 episodes and the huge amount of money for the fistula foundation! You are an absolute superstar in the knitting world and I'm so thrilled I stumbled on your podcasts a long time ago! I love them! In thinking about your upcoming test knitting period, with peace and love, I really encourage you to consider the influence you have on the greater knitting community and other designers. You're achieving huge success with your designs and you're a well-respected leader, influencer, podcaster and designer and you are lifting the bar for many other people in the community - which is fantastic! Your emphasis on size inclusivity is brilliant, plus raising money for charity each year, plus providing great value for money in your patterns by providing so many added extras within one purchase. Your followers (me!) really admire, respect and feel like we know you - I made such a huge knitting error yesterday and the first person I wanted to tell was you (!) even though I don't actually know you! We all feel like we know you through your podcasts and your responses to all the comments and Insta messages. You have huge influence!! All of this to say, I would love for you to keep being the amazing, considerate leader that you are, and allow your usual full time period for test-knitters to complete your pattern. You know the test knitting community is always frustrated by short deadlines (keeping in mind that people do this for free) and you're in a unique position where you will be able to get test knitters who will knit in a shorter timeframe for you because we all want to knit for you. Literally thousands of people want to knit for you! The problem is that what you do affects what other designers do, and if you reduce your test knitting time period back, it stops holding other designers to account to provide longer test-knitting periods. I want you to keep raising the bar for all designers so that all knitters can benefit from a fairer community. If you were to go with a shorter deadline but say that only the yoke and one sleeve are required, that's better than nothing, but it's still disappointing for knitters at larger sizes who want to join in the celebration of your pattern release day, who want to be featured on your Insta on that day, who want to be considered as equal. They'll either push themselves to try to meet the deadline with a full garment (therefore defeating the purpose) or feel really crummy that they're not as included as the smaller sizes who can knit the full garment within that time period. Can you adjust your pattern release schedule so that you're releasing each pattern a few weeks later than the current plan? Can you plan releases to September rather than August? Can you release 2 patterns in a month? Can you release a pattern every 3 weeks instead of every month? Can you hold off one of the patterns to a later date or 2025? You have built such a brilliant business foundation, it's not going to disappear overnight, you'll be able to keep releasing patterns for years to come. If you were to go ahead with a slightly reduced testing period, I'm sure it wouldn't affect your followers or your success, but on a human level and for your integrity, it is a big deal. You genuinely care about size inclusivity so please continue to care about your larger sized test knitters. With peace and love, please keep setting the new standard for size inclusive knitting. Please keep being true to yourself and your values. At the end of the day, that's the most important thing. Sorry for my strong opinion, whichever way you go, the pattern looks incredible and I can't wait to knit it and I'm sure it will be a success. Thank you for being a brilliant podcaster and knitter and designer, and I can't wait to celebrate your 100th episode and 100th design. With peace and love 🧡

Thank you so so much for this comment, I think I knew that I should have a full testing window and I just needed the kick in the right direction so I'll be shuffling the rest of my knitty calendar to make sure I can give the cable patterns a full test.
Thank you for holding me accountable!

I really appreciate that you include multiple versions in one pattern. I kind of think of buying patterns as taking from my mental “yarn fund’, so I think a lot before I buy patterns.
Petite Knit sells all her versions separately, and I find it frustrating because they’re not really different. It gets expensive! (I appreciate all the work that goes into it, but still). Congrats on 50!

Congratulations on 50 Episodes! And Thank you for all that content. I have learned a lot from you.
I have some feedback about your musings about designing & test knitting. I remember you saying when you started designing that you wanted to learn about what it takes to be an inclusive designer. Some of the things you have said in this video point out that you are learning that to be inclusive you need to adjust schedules, extend deadlines, make uncomfortable decisions, forego projected earnings… it provides insight into why so many designers decide not to make the inclusive decisions, because it is more expensive and inconvenient.

"Knitting for the coolest version of myself" - YES! This is the perfect phrasing for what I'm trying to do. I often pick a word of the year, and this year "Wardrobe" popped into my head. And while it's a weird word (based on my past choices/vibes), it is also the solution to one of the main problems I'm fighting right now.

when I saw the cabled sweater I was like “I would wear that as a vest” and you said you’d add it as a pattern option! I’m sooooo interested in that test knit! Notifications are going on! I had no intentions on testing this year but your patterns are too good to not want to test! And I love your testing process anyway 😊 ahh! So much excitement for cables!

Congratulations on 50 episodes, I think longer tests for testers knitting larger sweater sizes is essential I always look to see if there is a sample knitted on a body like mine and am suspicious if there is not one. Hoping to meet you if or when you come to NZ.

Congrats on 50 eps! Will your cable pattern be unisex? I've been hunting for a v-neck cable vest to make for my husband for ages and yours looks perfect!! Also, with regards to testing timeframes, having the testers finished objects to look at and see the pattern on different bodies and different yarn choices definitely influences whether or not I'd buy the pattern.

The fit will be exactly the same as my Stick Season which I made for my stepdad! I'll make an effort to have some people testing for men to make sure there's plenty of detail on fitting for men. usually it just requires deepenign the armhole.

As a tall XL / XXL who always have to make the body length below sleeve about twice that of the pattern, 6w for a cabled sweartshirt sounds challenging. But if only the yoke needs to be done, it should be easy 😊. Would appreciate pattern for a cardigan
in the round too, i.e. steeked!

    Hi Rebecca,
The answer for the sleeve gauge is just change needle size. Apparently smaller circumference knitting in the round for sleeves, causes us to tighten our gauge.
    Kind regards

    • @the.creabea
      @the.creabea  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yess I've gone up a needle size for the sleeve, but the overall garment gauge is smaller once I knit the body in the round. So I kept ht esleeves at the same "tigher" gauge, but went up a needle size to maintain that.

I know I'm a week late, but I'd say don't sacrifice the longer test time and just release 2 patterns in one month! As a larger sized knitter even if I can finish my size within a shorter timeframe if the largest sizes cannot then it feels really sad and exclusionary that they cannot show their hard work and finished products on release date. I know other big designers do the "just the yoke and one sleeve" but those are designers I don't usually test for because even though you may not need eyes on the numbers in the body, fit should still matter and there might be other feedback that's helpful for larger knitters that can't be added to Ravelry projects until all tests are done. I love this design and I hope it gets the longer test window!

Do you just do a rough estimate? Do you have so much yarn in stash that it doesn't matter? Can you count it somehow? I would be curious to know! 😊

You said in your last video, the most worn jumpers one, that you found out you're a Winter palette and I wondered if that was true and then I forgot about it, BUT int he face of your orchid yarn: is it possible you're an Autumn? When you said you're a winter you were wearing a bright orange pullover, and your most worn sweaters were olive/pine greens, browns, rusts and oranges, tomato-y reds, creams, navy - all warm tones. Your sad-vent calendar minis all seemed perfect for you in the warm rainbow of colours. Winters are cool tones, like the blue cardigan you said you never reach for and the orchid yarn that you seem to be talking yourself into. Obviously, I'm not there with you in person to have any special insight in your colouring, but from here in the cheap seats, it seems that you're happiest as an Autumn?

Hi Rebecca, Happy New Year! I just love what I will call your “ Foxes Sweater” and that caramel color is my absolute favorite, so I will have to try that yarn combo! My design question for you is whatever happened to the Cathy Cardi? (Or is it Kathy with a K)? If I remember correctly that was your very first design concept and you were knitting it up in a blue yarn. It was lovely! Of course all of your designs are beautiful but I was just wondering about that one. Looking forward to your new designs for 2024.

It still exists! I have it in WIP form and tried it on recently, I think it would be work going back to with the things I've learned now because it definitely could be improved on. Maybe I'll start it again, I already know some of the changes I would make

Can't wait for the Lauder cable vest pattern. What weight yarn does it take? Did I miss it? 😮

OK please please turn no name and no pattern into a pattern. Simple quick color work it is perfect. I have the perfect yarn for it. ❤

Regarding your scheduling dilemma, do you have another pattern close enough to written that you could swap another upcoming design forward in the schedule?

I’m knitting your Stick Season pullover sweater but I’m confused a little. On the first few rows you follow Row 2 (RS) & Row 3 (WS) & at the same time work the chart or written directions for the 8 row repeat. It also says to maintain stitch pattern, take care to knit the knits and Purl the purls on rows 1-3 and rows 5-7 of the repeat. But to me that doesn’t always work out?! What am I not understanding?

Rebeca, l like your patterns very much.
I would love to knitt A jumper like you wear, but with clasic inserted sleves. My shoulders are more narrow, so these kind of sleeves don't suit me. Please consider my suggestion. Thanx.

I have a colourwork sweater coming out in early February that's a contiguous construction so should be a good fit for narrow shoulders
