He's such a good writer, when you look at the physical poem the "I" is lower cased "I", so its takes him out of it but still draws attention to it because we're not used to seeing an I in lower case. He's very clever.

I love this so much! Even though it's funny, its deep. I would love to finally see a movie with a majority black cast that isn't about black pain. This is actually a great idea for a movie.

Goddamn, Danez! EVERY TIME! This is waaaaaaaaaaay up there with his "Dear White America" piece on my list of Shit That Resonated With My Soul. I mean, that's what I dream of seeing: media, and more importantly, a real world, where Black people can exist in an environment without their Blackness becoming the most/only important thing about who they are. For it to just be there - not hidden, ignored, or swept under the rug by some assholes claiming to "not see color", but at the same time, not relegated to the mainstream's preconceived notions about what being Black would entail. Just a backdrop, an accepted, respected, part of the whole that is us - that is me.

Listening to him you can feel his emotions and see his facial expression as he gets louder into the mic. You can see the meaning behind his poem which I think he had a clear message that he was trying to share with the audience regarding gangs, violence, and racism in the neighborhoods.

This poem is certainly ironic, almost obnoxious at points but then relapses into humor. I can definitely hear the assonance that is in the middle of the line as opposed to exclusively at the end like a nursery rhyme. There is also repitition at the end and some obvious themes.
