Oh No, Not Today... A Thrilling Metal Detecting Find Instantly Filled Us With Bittersweet Regret!

- This week we’re metal detecting at an old 1840's farmhouse that Doug landed the permission to. Now a few days before the scheduled hunt Doug had to get a small surgery and he wasn't going to be able to make it, but he told me and Rich to go without him and make the best of it. Now with less people hunting that normally means less total finds so I asked Doug if he would rather we push this place back a week or two until he’s recovered but he insisted we go today because we already have other places lined up. Okay makes sense, so off Rich and I go and we hoped for the best being short handed. Well as luck would have it, not only did Rich and I each find LOADS of incredible old pieces, but of all the days and of all the houses we’ve detected we find the unthinkable, Doug’s ultimate white whale of finds and he’s not even there to see it. As thrilling as it was it was also regretful because we wished he would have been there to at least see it. We called him on that phone to tell him and he laughed about the irony and then asked his wife to drive him up so he can see it. While we were waiting for him to stop by we kept detecting and wouldn’t you know it, we found another one! It’s crazy how things can unfold and how the unexpected can happen at any minute. A absolutely remarkable double find only the wrong guy found them.

Check out google patents with the date on the "button" for pertinent information. One of their data bases lists patents by the date of issue. The Patent Office, also, has a good database for searching.. I hope Mr. Doug's vasectomy went well. Speedy recovery good guy!

You may want to double check that wheat cent. A 1922 no d with a weak reverse would be worth a second look 😂
Doug I hope you're getting better and back out hunting soon. I just had a total hip replacement last Monday which has kept me from hunting for a long time and finally I've been rebuilt back to a human being again so I don't have to bug out stuck watching everyone else dig these colonial targets up then text these long replies driving everyone crazy because I haven't detected for a couple of years from a rough crush injury accident so I know the feeling of having to watch your buddies digging up the cool stuff knowing it could be you.
I hope you feel better so crank up your recovery speed (pun intended) and get back out there digging between those other two lol

If you taje the brass brush that came in the set of brushes you all are using and scrub those aluminum thimbles with it they clean up great

Great hunt! The silver Thimble might be coin silver, which was common in early US history. Jewelers and silversmiths would just melt coins down to get silver, .900 fine instead of .925.

Great video and finds! Can you imagine what could be found in the dirt underneath that asphalt parking lot beside the toll house.
So many promising properties are now covered in asphalt. Any finds there will stay hidden for quite a while.
@@QuarterHoarder True, I saw a video several months to a year ago where an old gas station had been torn down and all the asphalt cleared away. coins all over the place from before it had been asphalted over.
