- DIY & Review of my home made Firewood Cutting Rack made from Wood Pallets. A very quick and easy way to build your own Cutting Rack, Sawhorse or Sawbuck for cutting firewood with a chainsaw. I use sets of two of these for various wood length. Wider gaps at the back give room for your chainsaw sword to flex without damaging the rack. You can also make a simple X-style sawbuck with wood pallets as seen in other YT-videos, but I prefer my rack version as it feels a lot more safe and sturdy. For me this the perfect, inexpensive, simple and stationary firewood cutting rack. Sorry the videos is a bit long, should've quit at 4-20. 🪵
PROS
+ Quick. You can build it within 10-20 minutes.
+ Easy. Only a few tools needed; a saw, about 14 screws, a screwdriver and a clamp.
+ Free. As long as you got some screws. Wood pallets are usually free with deliveries, some stores and truckers give old ones away for free.
+ Safe. A cutting rack stops pieces of wood from flying towards you. For more safety you can use a strap to fixate the wood. The rack is heavy and sits sturdy with the built-in stand on most ground.
+ Ergonomic. Good height for working with chainsaw, not too low or high.
+ Longevity. Last a long time even while storing outdoors over the winter. Blow away sawdust and put a small log under the rack so it doesn't sit on moist ground when not in use. Use pieces of wood at the bottom of the cutting area to keep the chain from damaging the rack frame. Replace damaged parts and use as firewood when it gets too old.
+ Flexible. Add more pallet wood to protect the rack, to keep wood from falling inside, or adjust your rack to the preferred height. Add racks on the side to extend width, or add pallets in the middle to extend depth. As shown in the video the rack is ideal for small to medium sized firewood up to about Ø 30-40 cm.
CONS
No cons at all, zero, nada, nachos.
PALLETS: EPAL or EUR; W80 x L120 x H14 cm

I was scratching my head trying to figure out how to make a simple affordable Firewood jig for some firewood we had purchased some of it is way too long. I remembered TH-cam stumble across your video. This is amazing many many thanks
Joe
You're welcome, thanks for watching
I made this last year from your plans and it's been serving me perfectly. So easy and quick to make (and free!) and it works so well. Thanks so much for putting this video together. Definitely the best one I could find.
Thank you very much sir, glad to help! And the way the winds hits nowadays firewood keeps dropping from the sky for free as well hh. 🙂
I did it today in 1 hour. It is a very nice design. The best and faster to do from TH-cam. I did a small change by adding 2 transversal pieces of wood in order to put the logs higher of the middle floor. Like that the chainsaw won't touch the middle floor. Thanks from France
Thanks! Gotta love wood pallets.
Great idea.Thank you for your time and effort to make this video and share your knowledge with us. Greetings from Croatia.
You are welcome! Have a nice day.
BRILLIANT !!! Love how you repurposed the pallet.
Great idea thanks for sharing. This is exactly what I was looking for. It will make cutting my smoker wood to size much easier and safer.
Glad it was helpful, happy smoking!
Simple, cheap, safe and efficient - genius! Thank you
You're welcome! 🎄
Great idea!
Thanks, merry x-mas!
great idea
Same here, I watched the video, tried it out, all is as stated! The pallets are easily converted, and the rack performs just as claimed. I have shorter thinner pieces of wood in need of cutting without jumps (and injuries), this rack does the job perfectly. I quite enjoyed the experience with an electric chainsaw as well. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you sir! I love battery chainsaws. If we do a lot of firewood here we also use a wired Husqvarna chainsaw, very reliable and unlimited power if you don't mind the wire.
Today i made this rack, it was my first DYS, my first hand saw cutting, and my first wood thingy i create. My goal is to become a woodcraft man in couple of years. Thank you for this great tutorial.
Thank you sir. Best of luck with your woodworking!
Very cool. Lol at morning wood.
Thanks 🌅
I wish this video came up sooner in my search for a good cutting rack. Best one so far and I'll build it soon
Thanks, if not the best it is def one of the cheapest ones 🙂
I tried this out and it works like a charm! It didn't take all that long to create it. Perhaps in less than 30 minutes. Thanks again! Be well and keep inspiring us! Davido
Great to hear, thank you and have a nice day!
Super! Danke!
Genius, thanks
You're welcome!
It works really good! Many thanks for Your useful idea!

Like so many awesome things in life, it's clever yet simple and mine is working a treat. Thanks so much for sharing with us
Thank you very much sir! Have a nice weekend.🪚🪵
Very nice, thnx dude
No problem dude!
I made the X style version, but I think the other way will be much better for me, thank you for the info.
No problem!
Legit !
Good job. I wa thinking of buying a cutting rack, but I give this a try first.
Go for it! No point of buying a rack if you have free pallets.
AWESOME ^_^ Thank You Sir!
Most welcome! Thx 🎄☃️
I am going to try this and I will add small piece of wood same width as the pallet saw guide to hopefully raise the limbs a little to allow saw to cut through the wood without cutting into the base
Right, just keep some wood at bottom to preserve the base. 👍🏻
Awesome job! I am about to make a saw buck and have changed my mind and will be copying your design. 👍
Thank you, happy sawing!
Agreed!
Oh my!! What a great vid, I've just built one in about half hour and ready to start using it now!! Really easy vid to follow, great instructions
Great to hear! Happy firewood cutting 🙂🌲
have a heap of small branches to cut, and now I know how.
I think we’re going to need a bigger boat
Get some more pallets. Not sure if it will float but one can never have too many pallets.
Cool really good idea what size pallets did you use
Thanks! The pallets are European standard EPAL or EUR; W80 x L120 x H14 cm
how long are the screws? Thank you
The screws I use are 9 cm or about 3.5 inch, for outdoor use.
Great idea! The only problem is that you still have to pile up those short pieces, on by one. Instead, I suggest you pile up those 3 ft pieces onto a 'storage' pallet (3 short pieces at once) and then cut it by chainsaw into smaller pieces. You can use some cross section walls on the pallet to ensure the firewood is fixed, then you cut it, pile up long pieces in front of the cross section wall and cut again. Hope you got the idea and good luck!
Something like that. It's in German, but you'll get the idea ;)

Thank you sir but it seems complicated 🙂, I just need a simple rack and this does the job.
What size screws were used here? 3in?
Yes sir, about 3" or 8-9 cm, self-drilling outdoor screw with torx.
