Thank you Kevin, you got me going with part names descriptions and parts lists and quantities within minutes! I have learned not to mirror but to pattern out parts whilst modelling so that I will end up with a comprehensive parts list for my manufacturing drawing. This is a game changer for me.

Thanks, a woodworking parts list tutorial was just what I needed! If you’re taking suggestions, making cut lists for sheet goods with Fusion 360 would be another valuable tutorial (e. g. which pieces fit on a sheet and how many sheets are needed for the project.
Making additional drawing sheets with detail views of parts would also be a useful overview.

Excellent reminder about copies vs mirrors. A life long wood worker I learned F360 when I got into CNC, then of course applied to every new ww project, love what cad now brings to the table. But this parts list workaround defeats the purpose, as one can do this faster by hand on paper. I really hope at some point the team at Autodesk adds native support for parts lists, maybe just bring in the bounding box data automatically. Love your videos, I learn tons of new stuff every time, thanks!

They offer a free non-commercial license. Works wonders in automating the parts lists and has a bunch of extra functionality as well

Racking my brain to figure out where i've heard this voice before. You totally reminded me of Nile Red. Great videos though, it is very useful to go through a whole workflow, rather than just some 'howto' describing a little tip.

I found a really helpful add-in on fusion 360 app store. its called "Size to Parts List" this app automatically updates the description of components based on its bounding box. I make parametric designs for cabinets and this app is a life saver for cut lists. I hope this helps someone!

How do you insure the correct labeling of component names? The xx:1, xx:2, xx:3 designation. Mine keep labeling xx(1), xx(2), xx(3) which in turn counts as a new part on the parts list. If they label xx(2):1, :xx(2):2, xx(2):3 it also works correctly adding up in the parts list but I can't figure out how to get it to label my joists and floor boards correctly. Thanks for all the videos, a joy to watch and easy to follow.
The only way I've found is to make one component and copy it. It only works if it's a component and if it's a copy. Will not work with patterns

Excellent tutorial. How do you show the weight of parts in pounds in the parts list and total weight in the title block?
Hi, Thomas. Great question. Unfortunately, Fusion 360 does not have this capability yet. At least an automated way. You would have to manually copy and paste the mass of each component, while in the "properties" tab. For example, you could copy the mass into the "Part Number" input. You could then update the Part Number column heading to read "Mass" (or desired heading).
This is automated in Autodesk Inventory, so hopefully, this is something the Fusion 360 team will be able to implement with the next round of Drawing Workspace updates. Cheers, Kevin :)
Enjoying your videos so far. I used to use Sketchup for all my woodworking projects, but now am using Fusion 360. Sketchup had a CutList extension where it would take all your parts against a sheet of plywood or lumber you were using so you could see how many sheets of plywood and/or pieces of lumber you needed. Is there such a thing in Fusion 360?
Hi, Mike. Not a native feature (yet...but I know they're working on some of this). Search for the "Bommer" Add-in, which may help.
@@ProductDesignOnline I sure hope they are that would be awesome. I use parameters for everything so like to make adjustments that way. So having to go to the Properties of the components each time I make a change to update the Properties is a hassle. Easy to forget doing that. I'm just a hobbyist so Bommer appears to be a bit more than what I was looking to spend.
Wish I knew this before I designed my Gazebo... even if it's unlikely to be build due to me over-sizing it ... slightly... maybe more than slightly.

I created a drawing and used an iso view within, but as I found out, dimensions don't work on that view, how can I add extra views, side, front etc to place accurate dimensions on? Thanks.

Hi, Mark. The planter box was a personal project, so I do not have any tutorial on that. It's not something that I'll cover in the woodworking course.
I know this an older tutorial, and I really appreciate it. It is great material. I do have a question though:
What if the parts list is longer than will fit on one 8.5 x 11 sheet? How can it be broken up into two parts or sheets/pages? Thanks
Whenever you select the parts list table, you'll see some little blue triangles (and maybe some other shapes around the outside). You can click and drag those around to adjust the columns/split into side by side. You cannot completely split the table into two at this time. However, I would recommend checking out the OpenBOM add-in for more control over your parts list. Check out the video I did on it here: th-cam.com/video/x3BmwSjgp7c/w-d-xo.html

As far as I'm aware, Fusion 360 still doesn't have a cost list capability. You could manually add the cost as the "Part Number" field of each component property and include that column with your parts lists.

Hi, Great video. One question. I understand about using components for the cut list however I'm having one issue that I cant seem to get an answer for. The example of mirroring the angles is exactly my issue. I have created a design which has legs as components. I created them using mirror as it was the best way to model them and ensure the correct position when sizes were updated etc. Now I want all these legs to appear as one with the quantity in my cut list. Is there a way to link these components in the design so they show as one row in the cut list. If not I will stop wasting my time trying. If so please share. Thank you.
Hi Jason. Because Mirrored objects are technically "opposites" there is no way to link them as one. You can override the quantity in the table...otherwise, you'll have to recreate the components by copying them instead of mirroring them.
I'd also recommend checking out OpenBOM which offers more flexibility with parts list. You can get a free account for hobbyist/non-commercial use - th-cam.com/video/x3BmwSjgp7c/w-d-xo.html

Thats awsome. I tried multiple times to create the parts list and the table only shows me the component name and the material its made out of. No measurments.
They don't make it easy... maybe someday it will automatically pull the measurements in from the component. But adding them to the description has proven to be a very valuable step for a lot of the projects that I've done. Cheers, Kevin :)

Unfortunatly - every time you change the size of a part, you have to change the description. The Part List is for a parametric program useless if you want to create a cutlist.

Ive kind of expected the board sizes to be placed automatically now when you change a parameter, you'd have to update all your comments with the board sizes.

So it's kind of useless if you have an existing model and you've created various components. Seems like there's no way to tell Fusion to group existing components as parts.
Same like if you had used the mirror function, or extrude to new component, after that point you're screwed? Wow, I would really expect a way to apply part metadata to a component.
I have a tutorial scheduled for tomorrow that covers the OpenBOM add-in which is 10x better at generating parts list than Fusion 360's native functionality - stay tuned!

You can use literally any Fusion file to follow the video. I started doing this because people were stealing the files and trying to sell them online :)

Yeah, I noticed that as well. The description will be completely wrong because that's not dynamic. Can you use expressions or measurements for a description? Or add that as a column to the parts list?
