Hi there! I am Joseph.
I have been an immigrant / expat living in central Portugal along with my beautiful partner Mariana for nine years now.
Together Mariana and I, would like to show you a bit of the daily goings on around our Portuguese farm / homestead / smallholding and all of the work we are doing whilst renovating, starting building projects, working with our livestock, DIY and trying to grow our little families own food!

I was stopped by the border authorities when I went to the Azores last February. They detained me and I missed my connecting flight because I did not have a round trip ticket. I was going to see if you could apply for a residential visa while I was visiting, but I guess they said I have to apply for a residential visa in the US. I haven’t put in the application yet, because I had to find a place to rent here. I did get the NIF while I was there. I stayed a few months, then returned to the US. I got the NIF while I was there, so I guess I can still buy property. I love and miss Portugal, and I haven’t even seen the Fundão area. There’s so much to see there. ❣️ I like the subtitles, thanks. Portuguese is a challenge for me, but I love to hear it spoken and sung.
I think if you have a lower back problem then you should strengthen your core muscles, that helps strengthen the back muscles.

I've harvested (and eaten) cherries on this farm,there are several varieties and they are some of the best produced in the region and there's still potential to plant other types of fruit trees or nut trees up in the forestry land ! 😊
Once again you bring us yet another beautiful, peaceful property full of potential. Joseph what are you like, bad back and now breaking toes. You've got to take better care of yourself laddie especially as you're now a daddy of two. I hope as usual that the family are all doing well. I have a question for you, when you greet Andre you say "Bom Dia" (good morning/day) but what is it you say immediately after that it sounds like "Tu de vey" (pardon my spelling). Hi , just come across your channel , what a great place ! I am a builder so I know the schedule regarding the finishing works but what I don’t know is local rates for tradesman ! I would guesstimate it probably needs. €60 / €70 k to finish internally ! yourself being local what would you say it will cost to finish the internal to a good standard ? Does anyone know if it would be possible to buy and live on a property in Portugal with a UK passport?
I know immigration is a nightmare, just wondering if anyone has gone through the process after leaving the EU.
Buying it is not a problem; living on it is full-time is only possible with a visa. Otherwise you're restricted to the 90/180 rule. If you can claim dual nationality with another EU country, such as Ireland, problem solved.

My joung family, with kids, asks you what kind of pesticides are used, if any, to keep the cherry trees and the fruit in good condition to sell.
Joseph, this question has a good reason.
The orange plantations around us they all are a couple of times, even more, yearly treated with pesticides. UE authorizad.
That is the main reason my family desires to move to another eco place.

Can you explain why people use a water tank.
Is the water to cold or the borehole to slow or temperature? Or all of the above
Hi there, it’s a place to store the water rather than having the borehole working the whole time, once full that could gravity feed a large portion of the farm for quite a few weeks / months

Hi Daryl, that’s the rough gross income per hectare, there are four hectares on this farm, and three of them are intensive cherry!

The calculation is probably right. But sorry, you will have to accept Euro's in Portugal.

I'm also a fledgling Portuguese speaker, still living in Cydweli, De-orllewin Cymru (South West Wales). Still trying to sell my home here, sadly a previous sale having fallen through at the final hurdle 😪 However once I make that elusive sale , I will then looking to buy a smallholding probably somewhere in the central region of Portugal.
Wondering whom I could practice and grow my Portuguese from fledgling stage to something more substantial, I didn't think there were many Portuguese living locally here , but have recently discovered that my Postmaster is Portuguese, and when I took some of my many dogs to a new vet in Caerfyrddin

Things appear strange right now. The value of the US dollar is declining due to inflation, but it is increasing in comparison to other currencies and commodities such as gold and real estate. People are flocking to the dollar because they believe it is safer. I'm worried that rising inflation will cause my $420,000 in retirement funds to lose value. What else could we do with our money?

Hi! It is pretty much slap bang in the middle of Porto and Lisboa, village is Alcaide, closest town is Fundão, to see any travel options

How does one market the cherries? Is there a coop that purchases all the harvest or do you have to sell them at fairs and local markets? thanks 😉
The prices we mentioned were wholesale pricing, it is the only feasible way to sell such an amount, selling to end user gains way more money, but when you own a farm harvest season needs to be spent picking, not selling to the public unfortunately

May i ask why they are selling the farm?
They don't live there obviously. So the owners do have another house. Maybe another, a second farm even.
Another possibility, happens a lot, the owners are getting older, and the children don't want to run the farm.
It is Alcains Joseph? If so there’s a train station near by.
Alcains is more south close to Castelo Branco. The village next to this farm is ALCAIDE, about 35 km north of Castelo Branco.
Basically (almost) a straight line, driving the A23. Alcaide is about 5 km from Fundao. (and Alcaide does have a train station).

Fantastic property and earning potential!, although 48% tax now that NHR has gone?, guess you can write a load off with expenses and paying pickers, maybe another way to reduce tax ie setting up a company or something?

Hi there, turn key farm, not house obviously… Most lands don’t have set up irrigation, bore holes, orchards and buildings… This is a turn key business. House needs construction of course.

Is it true Portugal is starting digital id?
Yes,the digital ID is linked to the physical ID card,but not only ID but also driver's license, vehicle registration etc. can now be shown and validated on a phone !
