Has anyone noticed that during the second phase when she stone-beams at you that two of the snakes on her head, go to the back of her head, and through, pushing out her eyeballs out while holding them in their mouths?

Cala Maria, living in the Bermuda Triangle, wasn't exactly the most attractive siren. Hell, when she sang, it drove pirates and sailors away from there. One day, she spotted the Devil himself, and requested for beauty. The Devil agreed, but with the cost of her Soul. She signed it, but after that, she dove into the deepest depths, hoping she wouldn't have to face the Devil again.
Where this come from? You created by yourself or is there a database about he bosses? Anyway, that's a very good story

Cala Maria is one of my favorite boss fights in this game. I loved her reactions when the fish squirmed out of her hands and when she got shocked by the eels.

in my opinion, this is the best design in cuphead, both for the themes they managed to incorporate into her design (the pirate ghosts, the marine life thing, and of course the gorgon transformation); but also just how they designed a villainous mermaid. personally, my favorite part of the design is the dead octopus which forms her hair, and how her stone-vision is accomplished by two of her snake-bangs taking over her eyes.
i think all of the cuphead bosses accomplish their respective aesthetics very well, but cala maria just feels like extra effort went into her.
True, but how do you justify her stone attack? It’s literally undodgable and it’s just a artificial way to make phase 2 and 3 harder because they have little going on.
Also I’ve S ranked her so it’s not about me being bad. I don’t think you can “git gud” in phase 2 and 3 because the petrification is random and frustrating.
Phase 1 is so creative with all the sealife and even the dead ghosts teaming up to bring havoc. However, the creativity falls short in phase 2 and 3 where she only has 1 attack.
Both she and Karls robot have immaculate phase 1 yet their fights fall apart after that.

A wicked and vicious crone of the sea, a grotesque mixture of mermaid and gorgon, Cala Maria was the sort of creature ascribed to legends and nightmares in the ports around Inkwell Isle. Those who succumbed to her wicked gaze were turned to stone, and their ships left to sink at the bottom of the ocean. It was even rumored that she consumed the souls of those she destroyed, consigning them to eternity as a part of her consciousness. Yet Cala Maria was not entirely pleased with her lot in life, for she was hideous, and the reflective surface of the water reminded her of this constantly. In disgust she searched for a way to make herself beautiful, and it seemed that her answer came in the form of a small black boat sailing away from a distant pirate ship. Aboard that boat was the only one who gazed upon Cala without fear: naturally, the Devil. He admired her cruelty and agreed to grant her wish, provided that she relinquished her soul to him. What he didn't account for, however, was that the rumors were true and she in fact had _many_ souls, mostly the souls of deceased pirates that she had consumed. The Devil warned that he would get what was his eventually (he always did), but granted her desire all the same, and in an instant she was a beautiful mermaid. Yet as the Devil departed, he gave a cryptic warning that the loss of her beauty would be... *shocking.*

I agree with death blade. Her design is quite pretty, her animations were adorable, and it was neat of them of the creators to turn a cute squid mermaid into a floating medusa head. It's be nice to see a "behind the scenes" with this character.
Until then, its just a shame that from the look of the comments she'll just be pegged as the hot mermaid and any other work put into the character was looked over.
