The coolest part about the AC vs DC war was that, in response to Edison electrocuting and killing a dog, Tesla passed one million volts through his own body safely.
I truly hate Edison for what he did to Tesla. Not even just from a business/inventor standpoint but just as a human being. I'm happy that Tesla is now getting more recognition for his work.
Tesla actually talked about the internet, smartphones and more while he was alive. Even to some detail how things would play out and be used once they were invented, he was truly beyond his time.
Well it's not as crazy as you think. Even books as old as faranhiet 451 had "pocket televisions." Frank Herbert's dune was written in the 50's. When you look into it things like this happened all the time but the technology of the time couldn't make them real.

If anything, when it comes to science and engineering, Tesla did much more. Edison was pretty much just a businessman on this front, and the middleman between the distribution of appliances and their engineers. He was nowhere close to the scientific mind of the genius inventor and engineer tesla.
The "make New Jersey look good" line might be a reference to how Edison would brag about giving his workers at his lab in Florida 3 months of "vacation" each year which just involved having them working at his lab in Menlo instead of in Florida. He's saying that, at least in his mind, he could make his Florida workers think going to New Jersey was a vacation and not some kind of ultimate punishment.
What everyone always misses: Edison had the patents on the camera, and on lightbulbs and on sound carriers... and he actually did try to stop the movie industry (which was mostly in New York at the time) unless they payed him lots of dollars... So the movie industry moved to a town pretty much as far from New York on the mainland USA as they could... that is how Hollywood was born. So Edison thought he could stop that industry... but like Tesla said: you can't stop them with that.
Plus he stole the idea for a machine with moving pictures from another guy (a French man if I remember correctly), who died under very mysterious circumstances on his way to present his machine. Shortly after, Edison presented his own.
I think Tesla was moreso referencing how Edison prevented him from using his patented light bulb design, so Tesla made his own (which was the same light bulb he held up in his second verse).
I remember importing Japanese games consoles and having to put them through a step down transformer before plugging it into the mains so the UK mains' 240 volts didn't fry the Japanese 110 volt-requiring-system. Similarly, if you ever go to Japan you need a step up transformer so your high voltage appliances can be charged by their low voltage sockets.
You missed the light bulb that Tesla invented because Thomas wouldn't let him use his light bulb for a fair. He lite up Thomas's darkness with it. Very cool jab.
Fun fact: Tomas Edison’s greatest invention was the R&D Department. That’s how he got that long list of patents, he (under)payed people (not just Tesla) to invent things then filed the patent under his own name. So yeah down with capitalism if it allows thieves like Edison to be successful. Also just because I know it might trigger some redditors. The Wizard of Menlo apparently came about because when Edison early in his career invented the phonograph and thus made sound something you could replay, it came a large surprise to the common people who had not expected such a development might be near at all. So a bit like a major technology showing up out of nowhere. On a side note, neither AC or DC ever won, turns out they both have their uses and so both continue to see lots of use to this day. For instance electronics all run on DC.
🤦♂️🤷♂️.... No. No they weren't possible, atleast if by possible you're implying actually feasible or advisable. Not to mention they would require such ridiculous amounts of power it's an utter waste. It's POSSIBLE, but it's not safe, not useful, and it wastes more energy than it transmits, so what exactly would be the point?
The VERY FIRST line, "Step Up!" In electronics a Step-Up or Step-Down transformer is used to adjust voltages. So straight away Edison is taunting that Tesla needs to Step-up his game.
Which is a diss at AC, which does have a frequency, whereas DC current does not. It was quite a deep dig, but I was expecting Knox to make the connection. Can't catch them all, I guess ;)
Knox , Tesla is the man who almost gave us everything that runs on electricity nowadays. So, just don't say"His ideas didn't connect" or "He didn't do enough". But, anyways , love ur reactions:)
Great breakdown. The "digging ditches" line was more literal... Tesla was forced to take a job digging ditches after he quit Edison Electric (until he received investor backing to start his own company). ...and you totally caught me on the "hertz" bar 😅

I'm so excited for this because other reactors tend to miss some of Nicholas harder bars. No hate in their direction, but I'm excited to see these bars get the recognition they deserve.
Tesla brought us the AC current, hydro power plants (first renewable energy), electromotor (making everything spin, run... from a vibrating dildo to a Tesla car by Musk), the remote control and radio frequency... the problem was, he just didn't patent, so other people got credit (not only Edison, also others).
Hey Knox, just so you know (someone may have commented this before, not sure) the "bet you $50k" line and the "banker and you" line are connected. Edison got in contact with JP Morgan, who had been funding Tesla for a project. Said project was "Wardencliffe Tower" - Tesla's first, long-range, industrial scale, wireless power distribution station. The idea was that if he could get the tower operational it would be proof positive that not only was AC safe, it was also capable of doing exactly what Tesla had been saying all along. Edison, having seen the research, knew it was true. So, he got in touch with JP Morgan and let him in on what Tesla was doing with the funding. JP stopped funding Tesla... exactly $50k short of the tower's completion - and it was almost finished.
Bit of physics for those interested: In an electrical system , when Current falls, Voltage rises and vice versa (assuming the energy input stays constant). With AC it's quite easy to change this, meaning we can have high voltage cables with very low current, and as a result minimum energy loss due to resistance in the wires. Doing this requires generating a magnetic field, which can be achieved by changing currents: Exactly what AC does On a DC system however, we cannot do this. Energy loss during low-voltage transport will be much higher, which means such a grid would need a lot more infrastructure to the point of having several power plants per city and no reliable electricity in rural areas. Edison, having patents to this AD-based technology, obviously pushed hard for his system. If you thought climate change now was bad, imagine if your town had a powerplant every other mile at 11:30 you did miss a line by the way: I conduct business. Playing off electrical conduction

Tesla going Sith Lord might be a reference to the TV-Series Sanctuary, where Nikola Tesla is a vampire that can actually use lightning in a way similar to a sithlord if I remember correctly.
A "smidgeon" is a minute amount of something, effectively meaning in this context he cares very little for Tesla's inventions unless they can make some $$$
Tesla could’ve become very rich. When Westinghouse bought a piece of equipment he invented, he agreed to pay him a certain amount per every kilowatt-hour generated using the device. By the time Westinghouse won the war of currents, he was supposed to pay Tesla a huge amount. But Tesla also wanted to build the Niagara Falls power plant. Except Westinghouse said that they can’t afford to pay him AND build the plant. So Tesla gave up the money for his dream
The sith moves that Tesla was busting out was because he would do exactly that for parties and for his friend Mark Twain. He could make literal tree shattering lightning dance on the palms of his hand for entertainment.
A lot of the reason Tesla could never see his ideas through is because Edison spent a lot of energy harassing him and having him run out of towns. Edison made sure Tesla couldn't succeed because he had everything riding on Tesla's failure.
He was not going Voldemort. Tesla made demonstration showing how his current was safe, and in some he just stayed between 2 coils and his body was unaffected by the electrical rays.
11:37 Hertz does not measure electrical current. That would be _Amperes._ Hertz is a measure of *frequency.* It is the measure of repetitions or cycles per second.
It's actually an interesting story about the fall of tesla, but also the fall of Edison. Shortly after Edison and Tesla parted ways, Edison partnered with the Banker J.P. Morgan. It went on for a little while with the 2 of them but eventually Morgan wanted more from Edison then Edison was giving him so he started buying the stocks of Edison's company and gained the majority stock. Once this happened he was able to get rid of Edison and changed the name of the company to General Electric aka GE. So essentially, Edison screwed over Tesla. And shortly after Edison was screwed over by J.P. Morgan

Fun fact, Elon Musk gave more credit to Edison than Tesla, I don't know if he knew about the whole backstory there and how Tesla's alternate current is what makes most electrical things function in the modern world. One of the inventions that Edison could be credited for is the electric chair which uses direct current.
Let's not sleep on that last bar. Whenever you pay an electrical utility bill, remember that's because Edison was greedy. We could have had free power forever; possibly still could if we tried. #LoveAndPeace
The "problem" of Tesla's ideas is money, totally sound but when the profit is on the other side you get the ban hammer, he has the biggest line of ERB history.
Hello Knox Hill! The "Hertz" (Hz) is a unit of frequency not of electrical current. The units of electrical current is the "Ampere" (A). Direct current doesn't have a frequency, but alternating current does. So in the context of the BAR; "The truth Hertz" is a dis to Telsa's alternating current. Keep doing your great work! ;)
Tesla also literally Dug Ditches, he worked as an immigrant laborer in the US when he stopped working for Edison. He would still think about electric motors during hours of mindless labor, and invented the AC motor while working on it on his weekends
Tesla was one of the best man that we had bro. almost everything that we use with eletricity is his invention. plus i only can see your vids because of him. craaazyy! the world would have been a better place if tesla's idea of giving free electricity to everyone had prevailed. there is an example that those in power... want more power!!!

Next, Stan Lee vs Jim Henson. It's one of my personal favourites.
It's one of mine too!
Please, Knox, do it!
I been shouting that one since the beginning!
Another one of my favorites. I hope it's done too. This will come as a huuuuge shocker for him, I think! no spoilers.
Yeah why has this not happend yet? One of the best Battles ERB has to offer!!
Bill Gates vs Steve Jobs is great too, I'd love to see Knox react to that
Edison won this battle because he had a ghost writer named Tesla
The VERY FIRST line, "Step Up!" In electronics a Step-Up or Step-Down transformer is used to adjust voltages. So straight away Edison is taunting that Tesla needs to Step-up his game.
New intro song 👀, that sounds 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Love ur breakdowns. Hertz is a measurement of frequency btw, not current.
Which is a diss at AC, which does have a frequency, whereas DC current does not. It was quite a deep dig, but I was expecting Knox to make the connection. Can't catch them all, I guess ;)
@@darkjannn DC has a frequency, zero.
@@han5vk Isn't having zero of something the exact definition of not having something?
@@darkjannn no. See difference between null, zero, nan. And in this case, DC has f=0 Hz. It does not have a big mac. But it foes have a frequency.
Another week, another comment. Gotta check out Bill Gates vs. Steve Jobs. It's truly epic.
I like that one.
@@cannotwaittoseedavanteadam4301 the best one. I've been commenting this every week and super chat during erb live. I'd love to see @knoxhill reaction. I think he'll be blown away
@@rajisready Yea, One of the best endings IMO
Yep I agree, it easily the best one
Doc Brown vs. Doctor Who
Fun fact: in comics, Gotham City is in New Jersey.
Funny because New Jersey isn't that developed
I lived in Jersey for many years and can back the development thing. It took my old hometown 3 years to go from Commerce Bank ( now bankrupt) to TD Bank.
A great movie about magicians and Tesla is "The Prestige" with Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman. Very good movie.
Ty
Excelent movie, you are a man of culture
That is indeed a great movie, and Tesla was played by David Bowie in it.
Amazing movie!
I'm so excited for this because other reactors tend to miss some of Nicholas harder bars. No hate in their direction, but I'm excited to see these bars get the recognition they deserve.
This is absolutely my fav EBR, historical accuracy and some very subtle yet hard hitting disses.
"Smidgeon" rhymes with "pigeon", I think it's just to bring your mind back to that line
That was my theory too, a sort of allusive call-back
You need to do nice peter vs epic Loyd both parts 1 and 2. Do them together so you can see the progression. Part one is from season 1
Pls continue the science series with Einstein vs Stephen Hawking and Newton vs Bill Nye
My favorite ERB! So glad my STEM teacher introduced me to these.
Doing this requires generating a magnetic field, which can be achieved by changing currents: Exactly what AC does
On a DC system however, we cannot do this. Energy loss during low-voltage transport will be much higher, which means such a grid would need a lot more infrastructure to the point of having several power plants per city and no reliable electricity in rural areas. Edison, having patents to this AD-based technology, obviously pushed hard for his system. If you thought climate change now was bad, imagine if your town had a powerplant every other mile
at 11:30 you did miss a line by the way: I conduct business. Playing off electrical conduction
I’m so glad you got to this one. It’s my favorite and yes, I’m from NJ.
Finally!! You did my favourite ERB of all time for me :))) Btw: you doin cool job Knox, thank you from Europe :))
"Can you make Jersey look good?"
I mean... The Statue of Liberty faces the opposite direction.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Isn't the statue of liberty in New Jersey?
@@TheLibermania Its in New York Harbour…
@@littlekuribohimposte I see they have a special status. Lucky them i guess.
@@TheLibermania Statue of Liberty is on Liberty Island, a borough of New York City. It's well known fact though, dunno how you could possibly think it's anywhere other than NYC...
Great breakdown as always Knox!
Next you should do is Babe Ruth vs Lance Armstrong, lot of disses in that one!
Notice how Tesla should have gone first but Edison stole/hijacked that too?
"Hertz" is a unit of frequency, not electricity.
Tesla going Sith Lord might be a reference to the TV-Series Sanctuary, where Nikola Tesla is a vampire that can actually use lightning in a way similar to a sithlord if I remember correctly.
A "smidgeon" is a minute amount of something, effectively meaning in this context he cares very little for Tesla's inventions unless they can make some $$$
True, but Knox was asking about a double meaning, which there wasn't one, it just fit the rhyme scheme, kinda.
Can't wait for the new album bro!!!! (Wish it was in CD form).... Stay blessed
James Bond vs Austin Powers please knox we need it!
The sith moves that Tesla was busting out was because he would do exactly that for parties and for his friend Mark Twain. He could make literal tree shattering lightning dance on the palms of his hand for entertainment.
NEW MV TOMORROW LETS GOOO
I remember u teasing it on insta a few days ago, so excited 🔥
Black Beard vs Al Capone has great flow and lines . This one felt too short for me .
fun fact, to make liuid plastic (aquarious dispersion) you have toi run electricity through platinum. that combines the water with the plastic.
I saw someone mention it on the live stream from the 3rd, but I agree with the Stupendium. He has some of the best lyrical ability I have ever heard.
Finally, Knox gets to the ERB that I suggested to them for like 3 years, because it was a real rivalry between the two inventors.
Oh yeah! I suggested this one too! Probably the only rap battle I suggested xD
Also his voice was the first recorded. "Mary had a little lamb."
That new intro song sounds 🔥 🔥, gotta check it out
A lot of the reason Tesla could never see his ideas through is because Edison spent a lot of energy harassing him and having him run out of towns. Edison made sure Tesla couldn't succeed because he had everything riding on Tesla's failure.
I'm from Jersey and nothing can make this state look good. We have one of the highest cost of living in the states.
I think people would be cursing Edison every time they saw their utility bill...
Imagine it being free...
I've had this memorized since it came out and performed it in high school....
Frederick Douglas vs Thomas Jefferson BARS ON BARS ON BARSS
You should come to Belgrade and visit Tesla museum! Lots of love from Serbia!
Thanks for the light switch 💡
"backspacing the shit out of that" is my favorite new catchphrase
Morgan
Love your music Knox, love the breakdowns and reactions!
You should do George Washington VS William Wallace. It's mad.
15:20 Prayer is the most powerful wireless transmission
I'm surprised you haven't done George Washington Vs William Wallace yet. That's gotta be the next one.
Hey Knox been loving your reactions and your music too. One of these fridays you should check out the James Bond vs Austin Powers. Some great lyrics and visuals in that one. Much love ❤️
Hey Knox can you possibly do a version of the opening song video that doesn't include the extreme epilepsy danger? I'd love to hear it without fear of falling out. Maybe just the track with a picture or something. Thank you.
Been waiting for him to do This one
And still a very important thing is that Tesla invented the Tesla Coil from Command and Conquer.
Tesla coils are real things
Fun fact, Elon Musk gave more credit to Edison than Tesla, I don't know if he knew about the whole backstory there and how Tesla's alternate current is what makes most electrical things function in the modern world. One of the inventions that Edison could be credited for is the electric chair which uses direct current.
We need some Clipping! Story 2 is a great intro to their style
6th time asking for black beard vs al capone
One of my top three favorite ERBs! Very nice!
Nope actually the line with pigeons is a nod to how he fell in love with a pigeon 🐦
Stan Lee vs Jim Henson 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Louis and Clarke vs bill and Ted Is a good one
Third week of suggesting George Washington vs William Wallace love the content keep it up
Let's not sleep on that last bar.
New Jersey representative here, And I have to agree that it was a good bar xD
I can't believe I haven't seen this one more often. I like this analysis of it too.
Appreciate that! Thanks
Keep doing your great work! ;)
James Bond vs Austin Powers
You should react to Bill and Ted vs Lewis and Clark. Great vid
Good reaction Knox! I can't wait for you to drop your song with Crook. It's gonna be epic!!! 💪😎
Tesla also literally Dug Ditches, he worked as an immigrant laborer in the US when he stopped working for Edison.
He would still think about electric motors during hours of mindless labor, and invented the AC motor while working on it on his weekends
Knox ... today's video was ... truly .. electric! *goes back to old lady things*
Fun fact about Edison he created a recording of himself in the 20s pretending to be Santa for children and it's creepy as shit
Tesla was one of the best man that we had bro. almost everything that we use with eletricity is his invention. plus i only can see your vids because of him. craaazyy! the world would have been a better place if tesla's idea of giving free electricity to everyone had prevailed. there is an example that those in power... want more power!!!
