I saw the movie about Davey Crockett in the fifties. I have been fascinated by the Alamo since then. I finally got to see it during leave time from Air Force Basic training in 1968. The bus dropped us off right in front of it. I didn't recognize it. I was expecting to see a building surrounded by sand and scrub brush. But it was in the middle of the city. It was awe inspiring to finally be standing in front of the place where Davey Crockett died. We saw the inside of the Chapel and the artifacts there. It was a solemn and quiet experience. I'll never forget it.

Santa Anna was not at Gonzales demanding return of the cannon. Col. Ugartechea was in command of the Mexican troops there. True, the colonel was under orders from Santa Anna, but Santa Anna was not present at Gonzales, as he was at San Antonio. Also, what most people refer to as the Alamo is actually the mission's church. The Alamo was the entire compound with walls around it.

Most of the original structures are long gone today. Should’ve been more clearer and concise about the actual battle and surrounding areas.

The title had one to believe that it would have more details about the battle and not about San Jacinto, the Republic and state. Funnily enough, I just read the Mexican newspaper that covered the capture of the Alamo. It was like in the middle of the manifests of cargoes being imported into Veracruz. And yep, seeing 1836 newspapers praising “the great general and honor to his country Santa Anna” is certainly surreal given how much he is reviled today.
My 7th grade Texas History-7 1994-1995 teacher told me to forget the Alamo she told me the Alamo was not important to Texas History she told the rest of class to remember the Alamo for the test coming up what she wasn't aware of I already knew the Alamo in the 6th grade I spent my spare time in W HIST -6 studying this battle and the Texas war for independence I passed the test in TX HIST-7 with a 95 I got 5 points deducted because I forgot to fill my name on the exam the test made her mad because I knew about the Alamo before everyone else did I had a sixth grade history teacher who loved to poke at the subject of the Alamo when I say poke I mean he like to go on and on about it

Like on TWD when Daryl Dixon says "remember the alamo?", and they immediately picked up the dead guy to shove him out the door and sacrificed his body to distract the walkers so they could get away. Every one immediately knew what he was suggesting, but I never understood why. I've heard it referenced in different ways, but it never made much sense.

Johnson politically destroyed David Crockett, who at age 49, was forced to try for a new start in what would become Texas. The Alamo defenders were there for a fresh start and land. Where did it come from that they were almost out of ammo, they were not firing for 13 days. The Mexicans insisted everyone become Catholic for starts. 500 more men were a mere 90 miles away for reinforcements. The Alamo defenders expected to be saved.

The Texans declared independence on March 2, 1836, not March 3rd. (March 2 is officially Texas Independence Day). Otherwise a nice video
