messi cant win without di maria. Di Maria should be MOTM yesterday: gets the penalty and scores a goal. Same at the copa: in the final di maria scores the only goal. In 2014: di maria is injured for the final and messi has a horrible final. In 2010, messi doesnt even score one goal at mbappe's age

I feel even Messi feels he never needed a WC title to solidify his GOAT status. That's why he didn't really crumble into an emotional wreck at the decisive penalty. I think he felt he simply needed the WC for the Argentinian people. If Argentina had lost yesterday, it wouldn't change my conviction one bit that he's the GOAT.

They are 100% right about that extra degree of aggression helping Messi. You saw it in multiple games at the WC, most visibly against Holland. This is very U.S. of me, but it reminds me of Michael Jordan, who used to make up slights and insults to motivate himself against opponents. When Dibu was asked why he made the "vulgar gesture" with the Golden Hand, he said: "because the French fans were booing me." This is what you have to do to get that elite edge-- literally create a fantasy that your enemy has disrespected you... brilliant.

For example,if Di Maria wasn't injured in WC 2014 Brazil,(his ankle was gone in QF vs Belgium)I'm certain that we would've win that German squad with the help of Angel! And when my other GOAT Maradona died, seems to me like part of his leadership spirit went straight into Leo!🙌😢🙏🇦🇷10 + 🐐🇦🇷🐐10 = GOAT

Remove emotions from the GOAT debate. The world cup is the greatest competition and the biggest in soccer. To be the greatest you have to win the biggest challenge. The bar has been set for the GOAT and that is three world cups(wins). There's a desperation to re-engineer the foundation and the structure of the GOAT debate so that it is biased towards Mess, it seems like rigging the debate in favour of Messii!! Can someone tell me why Messi hasn't won three world cups when he's infact been to several? It is because it is very difficult to win one! Three world cups is a very high bar for Messi! And it is not like Messi hasn't been to a world cup, he's been to a couple! Messi wins one and he's the GOAT!! No, there's someone who has three world cups.
Winning one and being declared the GOAT is really lowering the bar so that Messi can get over the line, this makes Messi look weak! Messi is great but not the greatest. Being the greatest is not easy, Messi and Ronaldo would tell you that. There is so much bias, bigotry, prejudice etc in the GOATSHIP debate, so the best way to overcome all that bad stuff is to look at the numbers, numbers don't lie! Look at Messi's, Ronaldo's, Pele's and Maradona's numbers then decide. Numbers are the fairest way to compare!

Probably the best world cup final in my opinion in the past 2 decades! Even tho France and Mbappe were beaten in penalties, you gotta give some major credits to Mbappe for being clinical and helping France's hope stay alive in regular and extra time. Argentina almost bottled it by subbing out Di Maria too early and replacing him with Acuna who couldn't do anything on the left except make back passes... Amazing game by Messi and you really can't argue his status in the world of football especially after this game.

At least he made up for it and single handedly brought france back into the game while scoring a hattrick and breaking records. A better comparison would be 27 year old prime messi in 2014 when he played an even worse game over 120 minutes in the final against Germany.
