Hi, Carter! I work full-time and I'm taking one grad class per semester. Since I'm also a parent to a 21-month-old, I tend to allot time Mondays to Thursdays in the evening to my schoolwork (7 to 9 pm) after she goes to bed. I'm not a morning person and want my weekends to be about family time and relaxing time, so that's what works for me! Best of luck to you in your studies!
Ou that might be the best idea since I'm definitely NOT a morning person either & I like to spend my weekends relaxing!!
I really appreciate the emphasis on keeping a balance. I graduated from my master’s degree last year (full-time) while also being a full-time teacher and it was the worst decision ever. I didn’t have time to be fully present in both because I felt that I had to take all the opportunities at once. I developed anxiety and I’m finally finding a good balance albeit the whole in-person/remote learning for elementary students is still taxing. Good luck with your new adventure! Thanks for bringing us along ☺️
I have taken such pride on establishing such a good balance and routine after burning out in undergrad that to put it simply- I don't give myself a choice. It's either balance or you aren't doing it. Life is short and I'm not spending hours and hours on schoolwork last minute when I could be spending quality time with family and friends. So being organized and keeping a balance is truly SO important to me!
Gonna start grad school in the fall and this video is gonna be an inspiration to how I'm gonna romanticize my academic routine.
I just started studying for a professional certification and I haven’t been in college since 2020 and I forgot how much I LOVE learning and studying and bettering myself !!!
Omg same! I'm loving it!!
Not Grad school, but I am doing courses online and constantly finding new courses today just because I like to be learning. I used to do course work for an hour before work in the morning, and when I realised that wasn't working for me I started doing an hour after work 2 days a week (I work Monday to Saturday 8am-6pm) and then 2 hours on Sundays, and I feel like 4 hours a week is enough for me to stay on track but also get some time in for me. I took a holiday from work this week to focus on my courses, and by doing only 2 hours a day on 3 days, I have completed 2.5 assignments for my current course so I am even working ahead of schedule which feels awesome.
Lol Pascal!🦎 Yay! Congrats on your first day of school and best of luck in this new chapter!
Thank you so much!!
Congrats on your first day! Thank you so much for emphasizing the importance of balance and rest. It's easy to get caught up in productivity and burn out. I am in a Master's program and working full-time. It's definitely a juggling act! What I've done is dedicated 2 hours per weekday to school (after I'm off work) and four hours per weekend day to school. If I want to, and am capable of, working above and beyond that, I do. This helps me give permission to myself to rest instead of cramming my weekends full and resenting my schedule.
That is a great plan! I think I'm going to try a few things out before figuring out what works best for me but I like that idea of setting aside a few hours every day instead of one full day!
Congrats on starting your grad school. As a college student myself, I find myself falling into needing to be productive 24/7 as well. Especially balancing school full time, work and attempting to start content creation. You have always been one of my biggest inspirations, all the way back to the barn vlogs. I love your day in the life content the best, showing the balance of all aspects of everything. I find myself struggling to wind down and practice self-care, thank you for talking about it and always being the voice of reason for me when I cant even see I am overworking myself. I hope you have a great rest of your day Carter!
Good luck with grad school!! It’s so fun seeing you go after what you want and still take time to take care of yourself as you do it!
❤️❤️
starting grad school in 2 weeks and im still going to be working full time and this was the best video i’ve come across of all the vlogs i’ve watched. thank youuuuu 💛💛 and im gonna subscribe!!
Aw I appreciate it so much!!! Wishing you all the best as you embark on this new journey xo
i love the full week in you life videos
I do too but they are super hard to do when I upload 3 video a a week! I'm hoping to do more but it's not easy when you upload multiple videos a week!
GRAD school! Little bit of everything! Carter you are awesome!!! So happy for you! My new semester starts on 1/31! Ekk I’m going to school for all my pre-reqs and hopefully applying to the nursing program in December. But this video is so motivating! I also am struggling with routines, haha I work 8-4:30 as well and also school! So I can’t wait too see what your routine looks like. Stella looks like she’s better her whittle brown eye ♥️♥️♥️
Thank you so much!!!
@@CarterSullivan your so welcome! 🥰
I actually really like watching your videos especially when you show your current reads! I’m actually really enjoying the maid book myself too.
I post literally every single one of my current reads on IG so makes sure you follow me there since I don't always remember to talk about them in my vlogs!
Looove the calender!
Seeing you prep makes me wanna go back to school 🙈
Congrats on your first day! Starting grad school/programs is so exciting! I got my MBA in May 2020 and worked full time throughout. Find what routine works for you. For me, I worked 7:30-3:30 and had class 6-8:30 every night. Just setting a little time aside every day worked best so I could enjoy the weekends and watch tv shows at night. I usually spent 2-3 hours on the weekend at a coffee shop working on projects (pre pandemic) but getting some movement in was always a great break too.
Take it day by day, but you got this!
thanks so much!!
I love all of your videos, literally living for the organization!
Aw thank you!!
I graduated grad school July 2021 and I worked full-time traveling 40+ minutes to work and my husband and I just gotten a dog 🤣 so I did about an hour Monday through Friday after work for my masters program. And then on Saturdays I would spend about 4 to 6 hours in on Sunday I would spend one to two hours prepping for the week I took two classes per session and they were two sessions per semester so I was teaching four classes a semester. I started my program August 2020 and then like I mentioned graduated July 20 21 doing 3 semesters.
So excited for you. I have my associates in Health Information Management and my RHIT cert and I loved getting my degree. I am planning on finishing up my undergrad in healthcare management and getting my RHIA but I am saving up because I refuse student loans. Good Luck!
My Master’s classes are at night! So to keep my brain awake until 9:30 pm, I do my homework at the same time on the days I don’t have class!
Oh nice!!! Feel lucky to be in asynchronous classes cause I could not be in evening lectures😅😅
i cant even begin to explain how excited i am for the school content
Aw thanks!
Congratulations on your first day of grad school! Also, this is the video I needed - I’ve been feeling drained and burnt out which has been uncharacteristic of me. Seeing you get prepped for your first semester gave me the inspiration to get myself organized for my semester of school as well.
I have an orange circle studio planner to I love the simplicity!
Yes that's what drew me to it!!
I found this video by searching "grad school vlog" and i really enjoyed it. i am starting my masters degree this fall in library science and just posted a video on my page talking about choosing a grad school! would love to see you do something like that next, but congrats and i look forward to seeing more content from you. :-)
Thanks for watching! Honestly this was the only program I applied to because it fit my criteria!
grad school was HARD for me lol i hated it but congrats on starting your journey! def make sure to take time for self care :)
Prioritizing myself & self care which is why I'd rather take 2 classes a semester and take longer than take a ton and be burnt out!!
I’m in my second semester of grad school (getting my MPH online!) 😊 just subscribed-love your content!
AWW thanks, good luck girl!!!
I like the week of grad school vlog idea!
Yay! Good to know!
Yay! Congratulations for getting into grad school :D! I am currently in grad and working part time.
I like the idea of entering due dates in an Excel spreadsheet, I entered dates in my planner, but I think. Iwill do this as well :D.
It's such a great idea- can't have due dates in too many places!
Oh my gosh can't believe you already started! I really hope you're going to enjoy this new chapter in your life 🤍
Thanks Kate🥰
Left-handed fam ftw!!
YESSSSS
Proud of you girl!!! Keep your head up and wish nothing but the best for you.
Thanks so much!!
So excited for you Carter! ❤️ Also I love that you’re making it a point to not over do it with adding grad school to your plate. Rest is just as important as being productive and it’s such an important way to avoid burnout!
Congrats on your first day ! Love your videos, they are pretty chill and relaxing :)
Thank you so much!!
Congratulations Carter, you got this girlie!!
Thanks!!
I love how you're able to juggle a full-time job, school and youtube! It definitely does not look easy! You've inspired me to start my own youtube channel while working full-time. I wish you plenty of success in grad school! :)
Aww I love that for you🥰
How do I balance it all? I don’t 😭 hopefully taking some I so from youuuuuu YOU GOT THIS!!!!!
I want to see whatever you feel good creating for us! :) The Grad School Diaries sounds awesome though…just saying! 😜
I am so excited to bring the grad school diaries vision to life!
New subscriber here! So glad I found your channel!! I also just started grad school this week as well and am working full time. I was talking to my classmates and they mentioned how they were dedicating time on certain days of their week to focus on homework. I think I may try that option to see how that goes.
Aw welcome!!!
I just found your channel and loving your content! Weeks in the life sounds great :) Appreciate how transparent you are with the danger of over productivity. Also a recommendation I have is going to the library for books if you are wanting to save more money in certain months (I binged your financial videos with your financial goal lol).
The library is also a great resource of course but our wait time is like MONTHS for new/popular reads which if you don't mind waiting of course it's a great option. In Canada our library e-books software also isn't compatible with Kindle so I obviously can't use it which sucks and that's why I enjoy giving other recs like buying used or FB marketplace! I literally have been on the waiting list for Malibu Rising for over 5 months so I just bought it used and happy I did. But the library is great!!
I love watching your videos while drinking a cup of hot coffee! You motivate me to keep being organised and work hard as I'm trying to finish my thesis. Enjoy as much as you can your grad school days
🥰❤️☕️
Good luck in school. I really believe that you will excel. I'm so glad you started your day by taking it easy on yourself. You have a lot on your plate. Just breathe. The things you do in a day would take an entire day for me to do. You already accomplish a great deal.
That is so kind to say, be gentle to yourself!
Great video. Joining Grad school in September 😃. I can borrow afew tips on planning.
You got this!
Congrats on starting grad school! Depending on the program it’s not that bad. For me it’s pretty easy(for the most part) and I am able to work full time. I usually dedicate some time after work twice a week and some time on the weekend. Or I’ll do a little bit each day if it’s a huge paper.
7 classes and you are done? If im understanding that correctly then wow! I wish!! My graduate program is a 2 year thing- 42 credits.
Every grad school program is very different but yes mine is only 7 courses!
@@CarterSullivan I’m so amazed! I don’t think we have any grad program that can be completed in 7 classes in the US. I should have went to school in Canada, lol
@@alwayskrazy like I said it really varies on the school & program! Most are 2 years but I found one that was shorter ☺️
I’m so excited to watch your journey through grad school, congrats again! I know it’ll be great for you, and I know you got this!
Thank you so much!!
Congrats on starting grad school! My mom is currently doing the same program as you but as a Master's (so not a certificate), and what she does is dedicate a whole night to her courses. That might be better than spending weekends on them, or the morning cause as you said you might be too tired to do these classes. You could choose one of your less busy evenings to work on it. But once again, congrats on starting grad school! It's such a rewarding experience.
I love that idea, thanks for sharing!!
Omg you make me want to look into grad school!! Unfortunately I was kinda irresponsible in my undergrad and didn’t get the best grades but I want to think I’ve changed a lot since then and would take school a lot more seriously now.
I didn't either! i had horrible grades in undergrad which is also why I'm so excited to focus & do better this time!
Love the reference 🥰🦎☀️
I definitely needed that last talk. About to start college back up after a semester off and I'm just worried I'm gonna burn out again. Hoping to get myself into a healthy routine to prevent burn out.
The topic of needing to GRIND while in school is such a misconception and I am so happy to hear that you've been able to recognize that it does not have to be like that! I had girls in my Masters program that would DRAG us if we weren't working on something every single day, and its just not healthy (especially for my class and how my program functioned) it was so much stress for 2 years straight and your brain, and body need a break. You'll find a groove and one class may need a different type of attention, but never feel like you need to do it every minute of the day, cause you will get it done and it will be FINE
❤️❤️❤️
WHY does this make me want to go back to school!!
LOOOOL
Congrats on starting grad school! I started working full time about half way through my master’s and oh man that was an adjustment. I ended up using Sundays as my day of schoolwork because there was just no way I was doing anything after work and I wanted at least one weekend day to enjoy myself. Any way you break it down, it’s still going to be a lot of work. Just be kind to yourself throughout this program and try your best not to get too overwhelmed!
HAHA luckily I'm only taking 2 courses so the load isn't A TON but I defintely want to figure out what the best routine is for myself!
Congrats Carter! I actually recognize the graduate diploma program you're in and I just completed it and I will say you're going to love it. It prepares you for a masters so it'll be a great start for healthcare administration especially since I have a similar goal as you. One thing I found is just to give yourself a reminder for discussions. You're on the right track and I'm so proud of you! Keep up the amazing work!
Omg no way!!!!! How cool! I don't plan on pursuing a Master's anytime soon but happy to be learning again!!
@@CarterSullivan honestly it teaches you everything you need to know in healthcare management! I'm so happy for you!!!
Congratulations on your first day of Grad School!!!!! You got this!♥️🎉
Thank you so much!!
So exciting! Congrats on your first day! Literally watching this as motivation to do my own school work
Yay! Thank you!
I can 100% relate to feeling like you have to be productive all the time, especially in university.
It's like this everywhere, but as an example, I go to McGill, which is obviously a top school in Canada, and everyone here is super smart and hardworking, and you feel like you have to keep up. One of my classmates told me that she once only had 350 steps in a day because she basically spent the whole day sitting and working on school. And she does that regularly. I mean I am not judging her by any means: do what works for you. But the problem is then I put that pressure on myself because I am trying to prove to myself and the world how hardworking I am. Anyway, it's important not to fall into that pattern. Sleep and health come first.
It's too late now - but I'm in my 6th year of grad school and every semester I check the school library/local libraries first to see if they have the textbooks! Then check to see if there is a free/cheaper online version if the library doesn't have it. Best of luck as you start your semester off!
As for trying to balance it all - honestly it's a struggle! I'm NOT a morning person so I usually do my day job first thing to knock out those big to-do's and then schedule my class work RIGHT after I finish work for my day job for the day so I can space things out a bit and don't have to spend a single day cramming. Then as a baby youtuber, I film content at night. I do a "reset" every Sunday so I block off extra time right after the reset on Sunday evening for extra class work as needed. It's definitely a struggle buuuut when you have to make it all work you do what you have to do!
Yes I used to do that as well- great way to save money! I got all of my textbooks as PDFs which is another great way to save money! Then I can multi-task with my textbook on my iPad and taking notes on my computer!
hey there- do you have any videos on paying for college out of pocket? I recently learned that my pel grant is almost up and I don't want to take out loans until i absolutely have to.
So I specifically picked where I went to grad school based on affordability and being able to take classes at my own pace! I treat grad school tuition like any other sinking fund/vacation and save up for it! Granted I am an online student which cuts alot of my costs. I pay about $500 CAD/class.
What do you plan on doing with your grad diploma? I am a nurse clinician, so curious what your plans are!
Move up into management & executive roles. I was so fortunate have the kindest & most supportive manager in my 3 years on the inpatient side & it made me realize we need more people like that! I know people can be very for or against non- nurse managers but with all of my different roles in the hospital & love for hematology/oncology I know I would excel in a management role, hopefully within the department!
You live in winter wonderland ❤️❤️❤️ as a Southern Californian Native, snow is a treat
HAHAH snow is a pain here
@@CarterSullivan I’d love to trade you places lol ❄️ ⛄️ ❤️💕
I found your channel in your undergrad. This is certainly full circle.
I’m excited for you! 😃
AW wow full circle moment!
I’d love to see grad school in a week! I struggle to find balance as a teacher and masters student. I mostly do everything Saturday morning. Also, could you do a video about how you use your iPad for grad school?
I filmed a video on using my iPad for work if you want to check that out- it'll be pretty similar honestly- just using it to read & make notes but I can incorporate how i use it into an upcoming vlog!
@@CarterSullivan awesome! Thanks!
Congrats on starting school! :)
Thanks!!
I started grad school this year too! I’m doing about an hour after work everyday and then I do Sunday
Oh smart!!!
I just started my grad degree in Healthcare Admin too!!
Thats awesome!! Sending you all the good vibes for the semester🥰
@@CarterSullivan my routine with my 8-5 has been one weeknight doing work and then waking up early on one weekend day and setting a timer a few times throughout that day to focus on work!
Super happy for you!! 😃
Thank you!!
Hey! I’m an undergrad in 15 hours of school however with lab it ends up really being 2.0 +hours I also work for 2.0 hours a week. And do social clubs meetings every day. I usually get up around 6:30 every morning to go to the scheduled things and don’t get home till 8. So I try to utilize my time between things that are scheduled but I have to use the weekends to really get ahead on stuff. Trying it out. It is a struggle but if you take care of your time wisely there will be time to relax as well.
Yes I did that in undergrad as well- did stuff in between other things!
I start in exactly one month and I'm freaking outttt 😅 I don't feel prepared to juggle school + full time work
You got this!! It takes a few weeks to settle into a routine but you can do it🥰
Can you share link to planner
I can link if you are in Canada since Amazon US/Canada are different sites.
Congrats! I work in healthcare management as well as a supervisor in the US, its a great field to work in!
This is exciting !
🥰🥰
Could you please link the planner? I can’t find it on Amazon ☹️🥰❤️ thanks!
I can ONLY like it if you're in Canada (since it's through Amazon Canada) so if you are let me know & I'll link it!
Congratulations! I am in graduate school as well to get my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction in Education. I only take one class every 8 weeks, because I am a full time teacher as well. It will be stressful, but I remind myself it will be so so so worth it. I work during the week at least one task per day. I work a week ahead so I get a lot done Saturdays. I spend about 3 hours on Saturday mornings and then finish the rest an hour during the week days.
Yes in the end it will be so worth it!
Congratulations on grad school!
Do either of your first two courses teach about issues in our healthcare related to discrimination?
No but I still have 5 more courses- I'm sure one of them will!
@@CarterSullivan that’s awesome :) Love watching your vlogs and approach to a balanced life aka you don’t have to always be doing something to be productive!
Michelle Reed just shouted you out on her most recent video - getting ready for your newest influx of subscribers!!!!!! So well deserved Carter ❤
I literally teared up when she shouted me out- it meant so much 🥺❤️
You’re the first person I’ve seen with the same major as me. I have a bachelor degree in healthcare management with a minor in legal studies. I’ve been debating what masters program to choose. Your videos help a lot.
I actually have a Bachelor's degree in Psych! This is a graduate program in healthcare management aka my mini masters I call it🥰
I’m in Grad School, I do wake up early before work
Good for you!!

@@CarterSullivan :( im in the US thank you anyways!
First of all, congrats Carter!! That’s exciting, I am about to start nursing school and I agree nothing feels better than getting a new planner and filling out lol 😂 but 1 question, what is the different between a graduate diploma (grad school ) and going for masters/doctorate in Canada? I’m the US & when ppl go to grad school it’s masters/doctorate. I’m curious bc this is the first time I’ve heard this
It's honestly just a difference in terms of length of school & the different programs. Most Master's program's are 2 years and upwards of 40k & this program is 1 year & just shy of about 4-5k. It gives me the same qualifications for jobs at work so of course I picked this route. It's the SAME courses as I would take if I was getting my Masters just over 1 year not 2-3, still graduate level (not undergrad) courses.
A graduate degree or certificate is a high level of specialisation and/or update in a discipline or knowledge are more concrete than those of master's degrees, usually with a clear professional orientation. Whereas a Master's degree is VERY specific oriented to academic or professional specialisation, or to the initiation in research work. Generally, masters' degrees have a strategic orientation that address one or various disciplines with a comprehensive approach. (Taken from our school's site).
In your opinion would a Grad school version of Community be funnier or a Grad school version of HIMYM/FRIENDS
I havent watched any of those shows so idk
I would prefer work and school content combined
Bravo
