Thank you for sharing this. I needed to see this. There are times when I am carrying my babies and there are times when I’m so exhausted from life, that the only things I can do is feed them, talk to them if they are out while dressing their cage, and keeping their environment in tip top shape. I was sick recently with the flu and was floored. I had to have my boyfriend help me maintain their food because I would forget things due to my fever. I felt so bad. You definitely shined a light on this. I know a lot of people (especially some of the groups I’m in) who are hardcore about their gliders would disagree, but I wouldn’t expect them to understand or show empathy when life just hits you.
I agree with you because of my own personal experience. A family I knew rehomed their suggies to me after having them for like 1-2 years. The shock the little guys went through, not eating their normal food for days, barking for the bonded owner, the weightloss, ECT. was so hard to see. The transition into my home was that traumatic 😢 and the reason the family gave was, "They aren't getting human interaction to play." Food, toys, water, and everything wasn't the problem. It was just that the teenager they had bonded to had graduated and was going to college. These babies weren't even 2 years old yet and still had a decade to live. I should have declined and reassured the family that rehoming wouldn't be in the suggues best interest. Took me 4 years later to figure that out.
Thank you so so much for making this video! I was on your live the other day and I’ve been following you for a couple years now since before I got my babies, they are 3 and 4 now. I’ve been going through health issues for the last couple years and will soon be inpatient for the next two weeks. Then eventually hopefully going away to college. My parents will care for them while I am away and nothing in their environment will change, I won’t be far from home. But I was so worried about leaving them, this video has given me immense peace of mind, thank you!!!
I’m so happy that I never had a glider burn out, I’ve had them for YEARS and literally watch the clock on when I get off of work to go home and see my babies, let them out and feed them, say hi and apologize for making money to spoil them. These babies aren’t for everyone but god are they perfect for me, can’t wait to get another to have a trip again! ❤️❤️
Kim, thank-you!! This video was desperately needed!! Some of the groups make people feel soo guilty, because they judge & many have unrealistic expectations. You have just saved countless gliders from rehoming trauma! As usual, YOU ROCK!!!
I love this and agree so much! I have a colony of 6 gliders. I believe only one is effected by less handling, otherwise the rest don’t seem to care :) 2 prefer minimal handling and one only likes being handled briefly and is only comfortable climbing on fabric not skin. I struggle with bouts of depression and sometimes it can last for weeks or even months so they have gone lengthy periods with minimal handling. They are on critter love diet, have 2 freedom wheels, plenty of safe toys, a triple CN cage (though I’d like to get another triple), and they have each others company. The risk of them ending up in a poor home and home hopping just isn’t worth it to rehome them. Overall they’re very well taken care of and have plenty of interaction between each other so I completely agree that a stable home is more important than routine handling :) Except my Mocha, she would live on me if she could😂 Even during hard times she is the one I have always made time for even if it’s only a few minutes :) You have helped me so much in my suggie mama journey 🥰 It’s been almost 4 years now!
I don't have gliders (yet) but I feel like this about guinea pigs. I have 13 now, and a handful were rehomed because people said they can't spend time with them and feel guilty. I don't judge these people. But I also can't spend all the time with each individual piggie. I do for sure do it when I can, and make sure they have their care, but the key is them having cagemates and stimulation and food, and making sure their care is awesome
8 of my 11 were rehomed to me due to people moving or lack of time/interest. I have time when I can spend quite a bit of time with them and other times when I can’t even get down the stairs to them so my husband feeds them and gives them water and will chat and give out treats. It’s not what I had planned for them but our lives changed and rather than get rid of them when we had to move and they had to go in the basement, this is how it has to work. They are all happy just the same and I promised them that they were in their final home when they came to me and I intend to honour that!
I have depression and serious energy issues, but I always take care of the basic needs. I felt really bad about not being adequate enough, and was thinking about if I needed to rehome them. I feel way better about everything now after seeing this, thank you. I always make sure to have points where I talk to them and pet them even if I can’t get the energy to do much more after feeding them. I cage them near my bed so I can still talk at them and they can hear me talk to my partner at night.
When I got my baby sugar glider, she had a very small tail like she bit it off or something and it still hasn’t grown that big and long did she bite it off before I got her or something just wrong
I have a question close to topic. Can you leave gliders secured in there cage over a weekend? Example going out of town on a Friday returning Sunday? No other pets are at home to pose a threat. Animal sitting isn't a viable option. Not talking every weekend. Like couple weekend camping trip or summer adventures. Before anyone judges I am in the research phase of hopefully becoming an owner but I want to ask the tough question before I own a pair.
My rule has always been that if I am going to be away for more than one night I get someone to come check on them and give fresh food and water. So if we are going to spend Friday night somewhere I give them fresh food Friday afternoon before we leave and we are home to change their food and water out by Saturday evening. Anything longer than that opens up too many variables that can go wrong. - the water spilled/ get poop in it - one of them gets stuck in a toy or pouch - food gets spilled or stars to turn depending on what you feed - a glider starts to show signs of illness and no one is home to catch it in time The power goes out and the temperature in the house changes dramatically And more.
Pls I need someone’s advice so I’ve had my gliders about two months now after doing research for some months and a bunch of videos I have time to spend with them but scared to hold them I have got them out in the carrying pouch but that’s about it there really playful and and sweet but scared about getting them out the cage
Hi hi, I have some questions for my rehome sugar glider which I got recently. Is it not recommended to bond with them at night? As I’ve notice they are very very active during the night. I’m afraid if I let them out they will go wild. Second question is that my male sugar glider seems very active when he see me. He will come to the cage and try to force his head out and he will keep trying to use his hands to reach out to grab my fingers to his face and bite it. The action make me feel that it’s either telling me he wants to come out to play. Or he trying to grab and eat me alive. Can I check anyone have glider that react this way can share what is it that he is telling me? Thank you!
Ugggh i wish i can hold my gliders with my hands like u do without them trying to take a bite 😭 My gliders even if they walk on my arm one of them always try to bite. 😒
Just wanted to say that your dental video may have saved my gliders life. 😊 I didn't know they could have CloSYS mouthwash! I tried it on my glider after I talked to my vet. He's got jaw discentigration and gum disease. The mouthwash is really helping him out, especially since he can't have any more teeth pulled. I know some of your gliders have missing teeth, too. Be on the lookout for jaw discentigration.
**Just to clarify for anyone reading this comment. It’s a Very specific kind of mouthwash that is referenced in this video.** Thank you so much for sharing and I’m so glad it helped!
Weird, it just disappeared on me,oh well, thank you for the video, I have two that prefer I just talk to them, nice small pets, then its leave me alone please 😅

This is very good information. I want to get them but with 2 little kids i want to wait till my kids are older.

You are doing an amazing job! It’s situations like yours that I had in mind for this video 🫶🏻
@@sugargliderdiaries well mission success 🍀💜🥰 Thanks for all your work and support!
Great video!
I needed this thank you ❤❤
I enjoy seeing you with your gliders

Can you tell me where you bought it? Thank you
I agree, I'd rather keep them in a stable home ❤️ my five are quite happy. People don't just rehome dogs and cats...
Absolutely
My suggies are so funny. They love me even when I can't take them with me during work time. Don't feel bad, they don't judge you.

Can I have only 1 sugar glider without finding the mates for him, I spending time with him at least 1 hrs per day and he seem fine and playful

I’m looking at adopting 3 2 years old. Is that not suggested?
Totally depends on the temperament of the gliders. If you have the opportunity to interact with them before you get them I would recommend doing that
Hi kimbo
Hi Liz!
All true
😂😂😂😂... thats how mine feel. I have 3 different colonies.
How many sugar gliders do you own so far? Please let me know soon. Thank you.

@sugargliderdiaries Yeah, I should have specified the mouthwash. I did an edit. 😊
In the wild they don't interact withhu.ans, if they have each other they could care less lol.. mine love me to give them treats and let them play
Where did the live chat go?
It’s still there during the premiere
My guess it you accidentally minimized it because it only lasts when the video is premiering for the first time
Weird, it just disappeared on me,oh well, thank you for the video, I have two that prefer I just talk to them, nice small pets, then its leave me alone please 😅
