He is tuned to C! 13's feel like thick 10's at that tuning. SRV tuned to Eflat, which is where i usually am, i use 56, 38, 26, 17, 13, 10. Which gives good SRV vibe on the bottom, shred on top. Rock! Tuned to C, i would use a 60 on the low. Maximum girth! Haha
Papa Roach has been making awesome music for a long time. Go them. Love gear tours of awesome bands :-D Crazy to see how many pro artists are using Fractals (or digital processors in general). Obviously the convenience factor (small, and diverse) is key.
Dude that is possibly the best youtube comment! I read it before I started watching the video and when the chef walked past I was crying with laughter!
Honestly, I really like them telling how they condensed their rig down to make it easier to transport. We all want the best tone, but sometimes you gotta make sacrifices and it was cool to see that side of the equation for once instead of a ludicrous tone monster that barely sounds better than a pared rig
Dream Theater tour exactly like Papa Roach. Tell me in what level they sound low fi? Is unnoticiable. Digital even sounds better because of the simplicity to mix the band without micking cabs.
I wonder if the people bashing Fractals and digital gear on this comment thread will say the same thing about overhyped virtuoso players who also use digital gear as a core part of their rig.
Fractals are awesome. So are Kemper. No reason to use real amps especially if you're touring the world. NOBODY can tell the difference in the crowd. Guaranteed.
Hopefully we'll get a new Mastodon after they start touring for the new record next Spring. Make sure Troy gets some face time too! He has a bad ASS Mesa rig and some killer pedals.
Agreed, I just find it boring that so manynpeople use em in these, I like seeing the weird and unique set-ups.. The talk show bands had awesome rig run-downs, they used a lot of interesting gear.
He is talking about the precision of the tuning. Lockers tend to be less accurate. In a quarter of turn the string lifts 2 o 3 notes. Thats what he meant.
It remains exceptionally difficult to discuss tone and the dynamics of amplifiers and equipment used to boost the signals and sonic signals used to create a unique sound. It is correct to comment that less is more, after a band comes to the realization that each and ever piece of equipment costs a ton of money to tour with it all. Once a manager openly discusses what a Benefit Cost Analysis (BCA) is to the band members, and how it works, usually everyone will jump on board, less equipment = more money in most cases.
Can ANYONE shed some light on that "wrap around" bridge? I wrap y strings around te stop tail piece, but my saddles are a separate piece. His seem to be one unit. Anyone know what company makes that? Is that a tone pro?
the only reason they use axe fx is they are a lot lighter and more reliable than actual heads and bunch of separate fx units. weight is a big deal when you're touring, especially if you're going overseas. in truth, unless you're doing extreme metal, the axe fx doesn't come close to the sound and feel of the real deal. it if did, everybody would use them.
Of course they sound different...one is standard tuning and the other is drop C and the heavier gauge and lower tuning will always be mellower. I just don't get why he bothered mentioning that, that's all.
wow the guy had 2 identical guitars made and they sound different. Wasnt expecting that, but it sort of makes sense, not every piece of wood is the same so even if its the same type it might be different in the way it grew to affect tone? I guess you cant predict the tone of a guitar just by specs, although i thought you could get close, but thats all good, you should be playing the guitar to test the tone before you buy. But he didnt really have a chance when they were making a guitar for him, something anomalous must of happened, or maybe Schecter just has consistencey problems when they make their guitars if there even is such a thing in guitar making? Mysterious.
Last thing, It´s not a secret that they are more of the intuitive kind of players but to me at least Tobin it´s a great player and composer!! and ultimately the playing is more important, right?.
I wonder if Rebecca, Chris, and all the other rig rundown hosts get as disappointed as i do when i hear someone uses a Fractal... I get the argument for use of a fractal but it takes away from the unpredictability that takes music from consistently decent to consistently decent and occasionally AMAZING! Maybe i'm just old school.
Man no wonder Tobin's live tone has gone to crap. He got rid of the 2Pro's and started playing his Lakland's passive! I hate my Lakland in passive lol. It has 0 beef, sounds very weak and tinny like his live stuff does now. Anyone know what he used to have in the rack besides the Ampeg 2Pro?
Maybe they just forgot the gauges or pick thickness (this last one, not a big deal!) or just they´re don´t really care about all the models/brands/specs stuff, but maybe they should have been prepared the interview in a more pro way or not talking about their rigs. Anyway I´m remembering that Billy Sheehan always uses the same bass and he doesn´t speak too much about his bass either, he keeps it simple too.
Axe FX ruined rig rundowns for me for a few years. I don't care so much about their guitars as I do their amps and effects. Now, it seems to be coming around and people are using pedals again.
I would hope he could play better than me since that's how he makes his living. While we're on that subject, since that is his living shouldn't he know every aspect of what he's doing? One of my favorite guitarists doesn't know shit about gear and it bothers me to no end. Obviously I struck a chord with a Papa Roach fan. Kids these days... :S
Its all just music, why get so worked up about it? One of the 'saddest' rundowns is with Phil Collen where Def Leppard are playing some county fair in Iowa, but you know what, a lot of people will still be interested in what these 'washed up' guys have to say about their gear...
I dunno, I'm sure his guitars are lovely in terms of sound and quality, but by god do those paintjobs just scream "no class". And yes, Insect Warfare did indeed use whatever cheap stuff they could get. I recall "World Extermination" being recorded with Marshall MG100 heads and stuff like that. That kind of thing is pretty common in Grind, though, since most of us are broke and unemployed ;D
I couldn't name you a Papa Roach song so I'm not coming at this from a fanboy viewpoint, its just why bother even venting an opinion? There are millions of comments on various You Tube music videos which all basically say 'Band X Sucks' - who cares? If you don't like something fine, why spend time and energy telling the internet you don't like them?
it really pisses me off when these "famous" artists don't know anything about their instruments. I bet the kid couldn't even tell me what the guitars were made of. Obviously he didn't know what gauges he was using on strings.
PG has done jerry like 3 times so it was nice to have Tobins rig in there
Jerry's getting up there in age, almost time to make the PRS switch.
naah he's been schecter since infest i think
now he is 70
he likes to paint
nope, Jerry will never leave Schecter lol
That would be epic though. PRS is great
He is tuned to C! Haha

Premier Guitar, do Jade Puget from AFI. They're on tour right now and I don't think any magazine has ever covered him. Very underrated guitarist.
Dude that is possibly the best youtube comment!
I read it before I started watching the video and when the chef walked past I was crying with laughter!

FINALLY THE RIG RUNDOWN I WAS WAITING FOR
You need thicker strings for tuning down, helps to maintain tension.
Guaranteed.
@@5urg3x true. the only people who care are nerds who probably spend more time on forums talking about guitar than actually playing.
Love the rundown! real honest no BS
Tobin Espearance: The Stephen Carpenter of bass. "It's really just a mood thing, y'know?" Does literally what he wants and sounds amazing.
Hopefully we'll get a new Mastodon after they start touring for the new record next Spring. Make sure Troy gets some face time too! He has a bad ASS Mesa rig and some killer pedals.
what brand is the chef´s hat?
please do a rr on fleetwood mac! im sure its been discussed, but now that mike c and neil finn are in the group, im even more interested in their rr!
LOVE that blue burst bass at 6:25
Saw the lead singer jacoby shaddix in the background
Agreed, I just find it boring that so manynpeople use em in these, I like seeing the weird and unique set-ups..
The talk show bands had awesome rig run-downs, they used a lot of interesting gear.
They tuned down their Drop D songs to Drop C# and then they tune down again to Drop C.
Basically all their songs are now tuned to Drop C.
01:42 - suddenly, a chef appears
I wonder if Jerry Horton has been contacted by the Outlaws MC seeing as how he is using an almost exact replica of their logo.
He plays .56 strings with .88 picks. Must be hell.
He tunes down so far they probably feel like 9's.
hastyberford its only drop C, it should feel like standard or even tighter than standard with 56 strings
That's thick. I use 10-52 for drop C and it's good. Well, it's a personal thing I guess... I mean, Billy Gibbons uses .7
The thickness of the pick has no real relation to the gauge of the strings.
The action was too fast on locking tuners? What? Does that make sense to anyone!? LOL
Nick K no, makes 0 sense at all. Should’ve been easier on the tech actually. Should’ve kept the old tech they had it sounds like. Lol
I guess that he was talking about the ratio. Sperzels are 1:12 and grovers are usually 1:18 which is better for tunning more accurately
He is talking about the precision of the tuning. Lockers tend to be less accurate. In a quarter of turn the string lifts 2 o 3 notes. Thats what he meant.
New drinking game: Every time Jerry says "you know" you take a sip.
You'd be out after 2 minutes !
Are you guys gonna do a rig rundown of Skillet's John Morrison and Korey Kooper? You won't be disappointed!!!
Nice cabs.

Can ANYONE shed some light on that "wrap around" bridge? I wrap y strings around te stop tail piece, but my saddles are a separate piece. His seem to be one unit. Anyone know what company makes that? Is that a tone pro?
There's loads of them dude, Just Google wrap-around bridge
You have the standard Tune-O-Matic and he has a wrap-around bridge... Pros and cons to each and like every company makes their own version of it
you can make a wrap around bridge put the strings in the tailpiece going to to bottom strap button go up wraping over the tail piece and string up
He does that, as he said - that isn't a wrap-around bridge
You know it, dude!
I wonder how much was spent making those PRS SE Bernie Marsdon signature clones...probably more than one can buy the original new.
1:45 Chef 👨🏼🍳 plays a killer pots and pans solo

Never really much understood racks. Just give me an amp, guitar and footswitch and I'm good to go.
Of course they sound different...one is standard tuning and the other is drop C and the heavier gauge and lower tuning will always be mellower. I just don't get why he bothered mentioning that, that's all.
GSUS HC They're both Drop Tuning but one is a higher drop tuning.
GSUS HC The black guitar was tuned to Drop C# "the higher tuning" but now all the songs are tuned down to Drop C.
That Pepsi machine tho
jerry horton looks like john connor´s father
you heard it here first folks... running your bass passive will prevent your circus tree from changing the tone in the heat
u know . u know . u know
Agree
Hahaha! Well spotted, good sir!
I think that those old signature Diamond Schecters with insects were look much more better than this new stuff
Aquamethods I just picked up the red one with the black roach. i wanna try and find the other three
come on guys do Tame Impala, it would be awesome to see Parker talk about his rig
Shitiest indie hipster band ever
What kind of bridge is that?
Gotta have stacks!
Maybe he just likes the feel of the necks when they're like that.
Damn the coolest guitar has to be that tempest
9:40 thats what she said :)
Wait...look in the background at 1:45 WTF?!?!
i dig old school papa
YOU KNOW Brothers

SRV played 13 gauge tune eb!
Is it just me or does Jerry have to really think about his answers like he doesn't even really know wtf he uses 😂
He answers the questions like a white house representative 😂😂😂
I think you're just high lol
It makes me sad to know that Jerry uses Fractals, I thought he was still playing through a good old Marshall :(
I wonder if Rebecca, Chris, and all the other rig rundown hosts get as disappointed as i do when i hear someone uses a Fractal... I get the argument for use of a fractal but it takes away from the unpredictability that takes music from consistently decent to consistently decent and occasionally AMAZING! Maybe i'm just old school.
i guessed that they would use axe fx before watching and low and behold, 40 seconds in
Not really a rig rundown. Mostly another ad for Fractal.
You know...
Then what?
no guitar floorboard?
They asked him if he had any effects. No its all in the fractal
You know... you know... you known... it's... you know
Man no wonder Tobin's live tone has gone to crap. He got rid of the 2Pro's and started playing his Lakland's passive! I hate my Lakland in passive lol. It has 0 beef, sounds very weak and tinny like his live stuff does now.

Chrck out the chef @ minute 1:45!!!

you should watch a interview with billie joe armstrong from green day :D
....we know...
god damn 13 gauge
Well, yes. Decent guitars. I'm not referring to that though, I'm referring to the incredibly tacky paintjobs.
reducing the freight.... with 8 cabs
You know.... Great vocabulary...
There it is again......the AxeFX 2. Slowly taking over.........
No color on neck...But it's still glossed...WHY!?
Is there anyone out there in professional music who's still using real amps or is everyone shitting through Axe FX nowadays?
Those aren't guitars; those are Affliction shirts with strings on 'em..
I'm not a tech...
folks still listen to papa roach?
I do
And your band is??? Let me guess, rocking the living room huh?
if you really wana reduce your foot print dont bring full stacks
Biggest sellouts in rock music. Would release a disco album if disco was trending
I would just use NI guitar rig. lol
BLACK SABBATH RUNDOWN
Axe FX ruined rig rundowns for me for a few years. I don't care so much about their guitars as I do their amps and effects. Now, it seems to be coming around and people are using pedals again.

After selling 20 million albums they can probably afford a few picks between them...
These rig rundowns is getting boring now when everyone is using the Axe FX II. It's the death of exciting and individual guitar gear. It's sad.
:)
You wouldn't be able to tell the difference from listening anyway, so who cares?
Its all just music, why get so worked up about it? One of the 'saddest' rundowns is with Phil Collen where Def Leppard are playing some county fair in Iowa, but you know what, a lot of people will still be interested in what these 'washed up' guys have to say about their gear...
So... a punk, a chef and a russian mobster walk into a bar...
I dunno, I'm sure his guitars are lovely in terms of sound and quality, but by god do those paintjobs just scream "no class". Plays guitar for years, know's nothing about his gear.
+Benjamin Morgan Yeah but.. you know.. successful at what he does and all.. and talented. So what do you do? Still live with mama or
Peace and chicken grease. My Opinion indeed.
welp feel free to say that
I have never heard him play his guitar but he still has it at 70
I couldn't name you a Papa Roach song so I'm not coming at this from a fanboy viewpoint, its just why bother even venting an opinion? There are millions of comments on various You Tube music videos which all basically say 'Band X Sucks' - who cares? If you don't like something fine, why spend time and energy telling the internet you don't like them?
this fractal units may be a really good and usable piece of gear but made this rig rundowns become more boring every day!!!
it really pisses me off when these "famous" artists don't know anything about their instruments. I bet the kid couldn't even tell me what the guitars were made of. Obviously he didn't know what gauges he was using on strings.
666 is my 👍
another computer user, cmon, even it sounds good we still want real sound :(
Fractal = skip video, for me. They are destroying the fun of rig rundowns.
Axe FX has made rig rundowns boring as shit
So that was boring
Papa Roach is still relevant?
I mean probably more than you are.
