- Hi guys, In this video I compare 1080p vs 1080i. I discuss and show you the differences and similarities between 1080p and 1080i and tell you which is better. 1080p or 1080i? Use 1080p when you can, if thats not possible use 720, then if thats not possible use 1080i.

I absolutely love your voice!!!! So relaxing
Great, useful video. I kind of had an idea about what the difference was, but this definitely made it clearer. Cheers!
Glad i could help sum up 1080p rules. Thanks for the support :D
cheers mate, have been checking out some of them buried glitches of yours recently :)
Very helpful and simple, thanks! New subscriber
im watching a youtube video about resolutions in 720p, looking at pictures of comparisons onf 1080p vs 1080i while listening to a guy talking in 720p...just think of that for a second
haha freaky stuff dude haha. i didn't render videos out at 1080p until this year. Got a better PC now :) 1080p rules!
Mind = Raped
You dont listen in resolutions...
+Lethal probably talking about the font
+TheTrex46 SOund is not send via the resolution mate. As you were saying.
Great job, YOU explain WELL, thank you so much for your information.
Nice video man always wanted to know the difference :)
Hey mate you have the potential for a successful youtube channel. Keep it up :)
thanks for this.. I was confused when i got this option on my sky box
Hey, thanks for the pointers :) I'll definitely keep it up!
thats great that i helped you out :)
watching a 720p video on a 1440p display talking about 1080i and 1080p... lol
I’m watching this 720p video on a 4k iphone about 1080i and 1080p
Zyfo there is no 4K iPhone do
zidescope all of the 11s and maybe 10s have 4k
zidescope not all of the 11s my bad, only pro and pro max and I have pro
Zyfo oh really i didint know that why would you need 4K in a small screen do
Thank you so much for this!
Thank you, you've earned a new sub.
1080p is better than 1080i, thats a fact. This is because 1080i is two lower resolution fields and 1080p is actually a solid frame. look it up.
Very nice explaining 👍
Thank you, this helps!
It doesn't seem to do that on my tv my TV is 1080p led sharp tv, but I don't have cable so some channels I watch are broadcasted in 1080i buy it doesn't look interlaced is it because my TV displays 1080p and not 1080i
Visually, when watching Call Of Duty: Black Ops (Zombies) footage, I never noticed much difference between 1080i and 1080p, other than that 1080i offers more colours, and 1080p higher frame rates (I think).. I'm looking back from hindsight though, so , yeah..
No Problem :)
Thanks
thank you for the info
Can you convert to 1080i in Final Cut?
but why my FIFA16 (PS4) feels much responsive / no input lag at 1080i compared to 1080p ??
1080p by 1920 is Progressive lines going across on your TV meaning you have 1080 line going across 1920 is the pixels on the TV 1080i is interlaced lines.
thank you i was changing the resolution on my xbox 360 and i saw two options 1080p and 1080i, and i was curious which one was better.
Thanks a lot
but to the human eye is there really different because i could not see any
thanks
So if I upload a 1080i video on youtube, will the "1080p" option be there and will youtube consider it 1080p?
Hi, im not sure about this as 1080i is not true 1080p
So reply me, please, what kind of this resolution better use on my ps4? Sorry for my bad language, I'm from Russia. I'm really need help with this thing about resolution.
1080p or if you have a 4k tv use 4k
for "sharp recording" which is better 1080 25p or 1080 50i ? Using a Sony NX5 ???? Please help!!!
(I think in 1080 25p the camera has less focus when panning etc)
Hi, it really depends on what you mean by "sharp recording". from the two settings you have mentioned, 1080-25p should be better overall as it's progresive scan and not a interlaced output like 1080-50i is. hope this helps.
MrDantheman2050 thank you for your quick reply!! Im still confused. I keep hearing "1080 -25p" is better than "1080-50i" but for some reason, in "25p" when I pan on a moving subject, the focus blurs, it feels like the camera struggles to capture a pan in "25p mode" is it the case "50i" is better for panning ? both of course in 1080 mode???!!
Mohammed Ali Hi, the 1080-25p should be better yes. in the 25p setting you have, the frames may not look that smooth when panning but thats the frame rate for you. using your 50i setting when panning should improve your frame rate but the resolution is lower, also the 1080-50i is not a true 1080p resolution so should look worse in terms of video quality when compared to your 1080-25p option. hope this helps.
Yes this helps - thank you. and there is a "but"... 2 questions please.
1 - Would you say its best to stick to 1080-25p over 1080-50i? Even though the pan's look worse off?
2 - how much "better" is the 1080-25p over the 1080-50i? End product will mainly be a SD DVD (and Bluray if the clients requires it)
I capture Weddings.
Mohammed Ali I would just stick to the 1080-25p setting, technically it should be better. If you see the end result using 1080-50i to be better, than use that. Glad i could be of help. Later
Comparing stills from progressive footage is not quite the end of the story. 50i is actually 25 full frames a second and is often written as 50i but also as 25i. 50i is 25 full frames a second or 50 half frames a second, so to compare one frame is only showing half a frame in 50i, which is why it looks worse as a still.
Really, if you captured 2 frames from interlaced footage, you would then be seeing much the same as the 50p frame.
50p wins out in fast motion in many situations though and a single frame will always look better than 50i. Especially on a computer screen.
We’re talking ‘moving pictures’ here and ‘perception’ of movement, not still photography and that’s what messes with peoples’ minds!
Actually Nick, currently i play all my games at 1080p however i do record the gameplay at 720p as i render them out at 720p. Many peoples internet connections can't stream 1080p without having to buffer. thank god i have fibre.
I have heard that some camcorders RECORD at 1080i , but the output is 1080p. Should I be concerned about the quality of video from that cam when I watch the vid on my computer, or upload to TH-cam. The more I search for a camcorder , the more confused I get. Can you explain the difference for camcorders ?
Hi, you have a very good question. I personally have 2 video camcorders, one that shoots and saves at 1080i and one that shoots and saves at 1080p. like i said in the video, 1080p is the best resolution, second up is the 720p, then 1080i. To conclude, don't get a 1080i camcorder it'll look worse than 720p. Hope this helped bud :)
I still have no idea what any of this means :(
Alguém por favor pede pra esse cara regravar o vídeo em português. obrigado
This is bull. My satellite receiver can output both 1080i and 1080p; tried both and guess what? 1080p actually produced a worse image that looked softer. Setting the output on 1080i produced a much sharper picture. And I'm using a 55" LED TV not a plasma.
Probably because the satellite can't stream data fast enuf
Could also have been due to what you were watching. 1080p and 1080i handle different broadcasts differently. Not everything that is broadcasted on TV is the same resolution/frame rate.
Another thing you might be forgetting are the gimmicks that were associated with all the old tech 1080i early HD TVs through the 2000s. That they were 1080i but not 1920 wide. Even the highest end Super fine pitch Sony Trinitrons were like 1440 wide, the rest were even less. I have seen giant old 1080i projection TVs that seem to have more horizontal resolution, though it's hard to count them ;). I used to wonder why the 1920x1080 devices always boasted FULLHD on them with big writing or sticker, but now I see that it's because the early days of HD were rife with bull crap such as widescreen TVs that had more resolution the short way than the long way. Businesses and marketers are not your friend.
Best video explain about 1080p and 1080i
One question that I am look for on this subject matter of 1080i cs 1080p, I have my dslr that has video. I can record at 1080p 30 FPS or up to 1080i 60 FPS, what would give the better quality and why? and if 1080p 30 FPS is better then why even give the option of 1080i 60 FPS?
hi, send me some sample video content and i'll look at what settings would work well. my email address is in the description :)
I have an 1080i Monitor, and it says its supposed to have 60hz, but when in Nvidia Control panel it says 30Hz is the maximum for 1920x1080... are there any settings wrong or should i buy a new monitor
Read up on your monitor. Some TVs come with settings that try to simulate a higher refresh rate. On my TV/monitor it's called "Brilliant Motion Rate".
It doesn't work as good as it sounds.
Keep in mind that softwares and TVs nowadays do a great job deinterlacing 1080i. So it's basically always better looking than 720p
Exactly. Before computers and effective decoder and deinterlacing softwares were created people could not tell the difference between 1080i and 720p.
Hello
My tv is 1080i is it bad for a rog g20 ?

I thought that was explained int the video...
On sony vegas there's a deinterlace setting so does that make it 1080p? What's the issue? Hope you respond
Hi BLU3M0NTANA4, i try to reply to all the comments i get on my TH-cam channel. I use Sony Vegas 12 Pro personally and know quite a lot about it. The deinterlace setting is a setting you can use if you have 1080i video. by rendering your video in 1080p or using the deinterlace setting will basically turn the 1080i video to 1080p. hope this helped :)
VGA analog (15-pin d-sub) connection support a max. 1366 x 768 resolution.
If you have a monitor that supports both 720p and 1080i ( not 1080p) and you connect the monitor to a standard VGA (analog 15-pin) output.
After setting of the resolution with the PC & video drivers. Does the LCD monitor work as a 720p or 1080i monitor?
So should i play 1080p or 1080i on my PlayStation 4?
***** Ok thanks i play on A Ben q monitor and it looks amazing on 1080p
What about 1080/50i vs 1080/25p?Which is better for motion?
i believe it'll be 1080/25p
Are you from Europe. That looks like PAL standard. I would also suggest 25p. Most major networks though when doing field acqusition out in the field will do 1080i50 probably. For bandwith purposes from their cameras and the subsequent de interlacing at the end point.
i dont understand wtf your sayin man ? i have videos 4k is that making diffrent also resolution
My tv support 1080i which is odd its 720p tv 60HZ
I have a Samsung 40 inch 3D Smart LED TV do I have 1080p I think O have but Iam not sure guys can you help me
If its got a really wide screen yes if the screen is not very wide and is just a bit longer than the left and right edges then 1080i is your man
720p is actually better than 1080p in terms of frames per second. 1080p is better only in terms of quality.
+TechGuruGames 'Call of Duty, Mortal Kombat and GTA' you can get the same frame rates on either depending on hardware
there are some goood video cards where you can play at 1080p100fps! Thats a reason pcs are better than consoles
+TechGuruGames 'Call of Duty, Mortal Kombat and GTA' Not really you can have 1080p Just as quick...

+ThisGamer Guy just figured it out that it was 1080p/24p lol
Why offer 1080i as an option, just in case some monitor can’t offer 1080p? seems so weird unless it’s someone’s preferred option
1080i was the 1st form of 1080 until they got it to go into "P"rogressive scan to see a smoother video.
The average person can't see the difference unless you are LOOKING for it. If you are watching the video for the video, you won't see the i vs p unless you tell your brain to look for it.
This video is totally incorrect as are other reports that 1080p is superior to 1080i. Neither one produces any better or worse than the other. The only difference is the way the screen is refreshed. An analogy of this is posting letters in an street. Either go to each house 1, 2, 3, 4 etc or do all the odds then the evens. Takes the same time to refresh.
Only if I understood them bog words he used xD >_>
so what does 4k stand for
u are so good at this stuff
Shaheen Anjum iur an azjol
4K is 2160p or 2x 1080p
So which is the best on my tv?
-1080 50i
-1080 60i
-1080 60p
-1080 50p
If you live in Europe, then 1080p 50P. If you live in the US, then 1080p 60P.
Makes me wonder why does 1080i exist if it just does weird stuff.
2160p60 4K
My tv doesn't support 1080 so thx ima use 720
No....this video is giving you PICTURES of 1080p versus 1080i. You don't use 1080i to take pictures...
All most people need to know is that *1080p* can be used for *videos* *without* *much* *action* *in* *them* (ig. a romantic comedy movie) or *taking* *pictures* so you can have crisp quality and the associated frames it needs to look that way.
*1080i* is used for *videos* *with* *LOTS* *of* *action*, (ig. first person shooter games or action movies) but still want the quality of 1920x1080. You can try to take a picture with 1080i, but chances are the image will be blurred due to the motion being stilled, and not moving.
Graphically, you cannot tell a difference, because there is no difference. Both of the resolutions are 1920x1080. The frame rate between the two is the only thing to determine whether your picture looks good or not.
However, if you are able to change your frame rate to that higher of 30fps when using 1080p, then do so, as that actually is the best thing to do.
*TL;DR*
1080p = Videos without much movement and still pictures.
1080i = Videos *only* with lots of motion
Optional - If you're able to change frame rate above 30fps when using 1080p, do so.
Im currently getting a 1080i 60in TV. How bad will slower videos/games appear? Will it seem like it is motion blurred heavily?
***** Well I'm gonna go on a whim here and clarify that if your TV supports 1080i, it should support 1080p, as well. If you have 1080p, use it. It's just the general all-around resolution. However, if you're unsatisfied or unsure still, I have explained my two cents:.
Frame rate is the main differential factor between 1080p, 1080i, and 720p. If you're going to be gaming on a PS3, XBox 360, or any previous generation console, chances are the TV's resolution will downgrade to 720p. They're also capped out at 30 frames per second. It probably won't make a difference in that matter, since 1080i usually isn't the main supported resolution when paired with 30 FPS.
If you're going to be gaming on a current generation console such as a PS4 or XBox One, 1080i *should* look great since they can go beyond 30 FPS if needed.
The only thing pertaining to watching TV is usually your channel provider and whether or not you're paying for HD and if your TV can go to its resolution. As stated before, if you have 1080i, chances are you also have 1080p.
I answered to the best of my ability but it's up to you, the consumer. I'd suggest looking more into this TV and perhaps your channel provider and make sure you absolutely know what you're buying and/or what you need. Hope I helped!
Jakob Kane
Heres the post I made on a website {i.e TomsHardware, Reddit} And no one could really help me out. I really, really appreciate you writing out the informative comment.
"Exactly how bad is 1080i for general use and gaming?
I just really wanna use this new TV I got from a friend for free.
www.cnet.com/products/mitsubishi-silverplus-series-ws-65413-65-rear-projection-tv/specs/
Also, would a DVI cable be able to suffice for audio aswell as video to my Zotac 970 to the television? Im not entirely sure if the speakers connected to my PC or the ones embedded inside the TV will operate."
Thank you so much. Jakob!
***** Looking over the specs, I was mistaken in saying it supports 1080p, and I sincerely apologize. Also glancing over, I noticed a huge gap in quality is lost without the support of HDMI. In that case 1080p and 1080i won't necessarily be recognized. With that specific TV, 1080i is basically just 720p, or even more downgraded to just 480p, if you don't have component cables.
If this is the case, I suggest you go to Wal-Mart, Best Buy, wherever you go to get your electronics, and get at least one AV component cable (for gaming), and one male-to-male component cable (for watching TV). This is so you can get the supposed 1080i, which is really kinda downgraded to 720p, granted your channel provider is HD as aformentioned. *I'm not sure if this will work with current generation consoles such as the PS4 or XBox One as I do not have either. You may be stumped at your gaming without HDMI.*
In conclusion, your gaming and TV watching will be perfectly fine and won't look horrible with a component cable. If you don't have one, it's fine, but to get the maximum quality out of that TV, I suggest it. More so, invest in getting an HDTV with HDMI to get the most of the picture.
P.S. As long as your computer has a DVI input slot, yes, DVI should provide video and audio to your TV since it is DVI compatible. If you're wanting to play audio simultaneously through your TV and computer, you may have to buy splitters or configure a stereo mix workaround in your audio settings.
Jakob Kane
Thank you so much Jakob, again. Theres not a lot of people who can provide legitimate refutes to my questions.
Im only going to be using it for video watching, coding, and some gaming on the PC through the DVI, which I suppose would bring out the same amount of quality as a component cable?
My tv can go up to 1080i but not 1080p

I just saw this on my ps4 pro
Yeah I'm just making research trying to find which has the best performance while maintaining quality.
This video isn't 1080p...
Sorry but this video is very confused and has quite a few errors…
1. Firstly, the p doesn't mean "progressive scanner" it means "progressive _scan"_
2. You say that 1080p is the best "because it's 60 frames", implying that progressive has a faster framerate, but it doesn't. Generally, the opposite is true.
3. Also, why are you saying "60 frames"? Video here in the UK is _50 frames per second._
4. 1080p is not necessarily 1920 pixels wide. It _usually_ is, but not always. Horizontal resolution is unrelated to vertical resolution.
5. 1080p is not "far superior". In general, both contain the same amount of data, with 1080p generally having more detail, and 1080i generally having a higher refresh rate.
6. I don't think the video is very helpful in explaining how these two methods work. You mention "fields" without saying what a field is.
Sorry but I just had to point this stuff out!
My tv is 1080i is it bad for my ps4?

So what's better 1080i or 1080p?
davidson973 1080p is far superior, and i know the other guy is on about screen size but its up to the pixel density, thats why mobile phone screens are so good these days.
so the P is better
