    I miss those AA 757s so much. They were my favorite AA jets to fly on, besides their DC10s.

    Thanks to MS Flightsimulator, I have 'landed' at this airport quite a few times.
    The most challenging thing for newcomers is that you don't see the runway untill you've almost completed your final turn.
    I tried a few times before succesfully landing, and in those early attempts I never even spotted the runway.
    It's right in the middle of the city so you don't see a clearly marked area untill you see the runway itself.

    This approach made my heart pound every time I flew it. High pucker factor. We flew this trip as a turn out of Houston. On landing, the cabin always erupted in cheers and applause!

    For decades SAHSA and TACA were the only airlines flying large aircraft to Toncontin (B727, BAC-111, Vickers Viscount, Electra L-188, DC-6), when it was really much more difficult because of
    the high terrain and obstacles on very short final right next to the approach end to runway 02. Because of this other airlines would not fly to Tegucigalpa. Eventually during the late 90's I believe the runway was extended and the high ground close to the runway leveled-off or flattened. After that it was a lot easier for the pilots.

    I went for the first time in 1985. SAHSA Airlines-nicknamed: Stay At Home, Stay Alive. The co-pilot was serving coffee. The old airport where it ended in a cliff. 2nd worst runway in the world! My new (now married 36+ years) husband told me nothing about the runway. Went again in the 90’s.
    I became grateful for the USA runways‼️

    The reason why the 757 was such a great aircraft were the engines The AA 757’s were fitted with British made RB2-11 E4 engines. They produced so much power, that pilots reckoned this aircraft was more like a sports car.

    It doesn’t look like there’s much room to work with on that runway for margin of error. Is that why it needed to go around for a 2nd attempt? It doesn’t look like a plane the size of a Boeing 757 is supposed to be flying out of that airport.

    • @13htorrespr
      @13htorrespr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A "go-around" can be caused by several reasons, for instance, an unstable approach, another plane on the runway etc. In this case, appears the tower called for it so the controller may have seen or been aware of something that would cause a potential runway incursion. As far as the plane, A B757 is more than capable to use that runway, of course, other factors can affect how heavy it can operate...so it may not be fully loaded etc. That said, larger planes such as the B787 are unlikely capable of landing or taking off there.

    Since 2011, large planes like the 757 are not allowed to land at Tegucigalpa.

    • @ramflow8466
      @ramflow8466 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I landed in one in 2015. I don't think it's that its not allowed, but the 757 from American and the 737-700s from United are being replaced by newer A319s. American, Delta and United now run two daily flights, instead of one, from Miami, Atlanta and Houston, respectively, so there is no need for such a large single aisle jet to land there anymore.

    • @Mrs.Doubtfire007
      @Mrs.Doubtfire007 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ramflow8466 That’s sad!!! The B757 is the sexiest single aisle airliner. I hate those A319s!!! They’re nothing, but “screaming meanies”. I live in the flight path of MSP & get excited when I think I hear a wide body, or B757 or A321, approaching only to discover I’ve been deceived by that pathetic excuse of what really is just a glorified regional jet.

    • @ramflow8466
      @ramflow8466 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mrs.Doubtfire007 It’s extremely fuel efficient, easier to fly, and needs less runway to land. Much smaller carbon footprint and lesser operating cost making fares cheaper than ever. Might not look as good as a 757 but it’s good for business.

Thank God they are building a new Airport like 50 minutes South away from the capital city(driving by car) to replace this one.
