    Just watching this video today, 2 years after publish. Just got a 22 GLA 45 and have to disagree that the GLB looks better. The GLA has the more aggressive styling for me compared to the more boxy phat Forester look of the GLB. So far though I am loving the GLA 45, it's like Germany and Japan got together to have a hot hatch love child..

      GLA 45AMG is so ugly, that it makes it the best looking small crossover in the world. :)

    Loved this video because I am in the market for a small “performance” SUV and the GLA AMG is on my short list. Your videos are the most informative of all the automotive videos I regularly watch.

      Gas engines and human controlled cars are on the way out so you better get with the program and get this car at the very pinnacle of what technology can achieve from a gas engine from the very pinnacle of the most advanced car manufacturer. It is why I did.

    I have no idea why Mercedes doesn't bring the S model to the US. Also why don't they bring the A45s hatch to the US?

      It is a shame they don't bring the s models of the 45 AMGs to the U.S.

      Yup, I believe everything is the same for the S and reg 45. Only difference is tuning and fuel. And the obvious interior yellow bits.

      The engine is the same, it is just calibrated for 98 EU octane (93 US) and they added 3 PSI of boost. Our M139 engine in US makes 387 PS and it is calibrated for 91US octane (95EU octane). Even the US model if driven with 93 /94 US octane was dynoed close to 400 PS

    Ich warte immer noch auf den GLC43. I would really appreciate a review from you. It's an affordable AMG and I'm sure the fan base or demand is out there.
    Looking very much forward to it.
    Best regards from Bavaria!
    Alles Gute!

    Happy St. Patrick's Day and toast to you on another fantastic review. I like this GLA45 body style and the fact that it is a real AMG hand built engine. I think they should also offer the GLB as a 45s as they do in the UK/Germany offering the same total horsepower in the USA as well, 445hp. Either one would put a smile on my face while spending 70k+ for a small sport hatchback , sorry sport ultility😯

    I enjoy your videos, however is there something you can do (exposure settings) when you take the car on the twisty road so that we can see the road that you are going on rather than an overexposed white glare. It would also give better reference in how well the car is handling the turns and speed, as because for the most part all we don't see much, just brightness. Seems when Thomas on Autogefuhl has the balance set right ie we can see interior and outside the car well

    Love the way you take those winding curves. But is there a way to adjust your camera so the road is not washed out? We can’t see the road due to the sunlight. I would love to see the road as you drive.

    Too many variants in the MB line-up and I would argue the GLA-series looks like a jacked up A-series hatch. Since you guys in the US don't get the A-series hatch, might explain why the GLA exists. Hm. Maybe that's why MB has so many variations of the same thing.

    Great Video like always! Even when I miss Kumos comment on some details. - The main traditional racing color of Germany was white back in the days. The silver part came by accident when they needed to remove the paint from the cars (Mercedes in this case) because of weight issues.

    If you're going to spend $68K or more for 382 hp, then why not get the BMW M340i? It's bigger and RWD. And it's a BMW.

    • @dirkirsche4321
      @dirkirsche4321 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is in the C43 class since it is a 6 cylinder, but even so, it does 0~60 in 4.2 and tops at 155.. RWD option makes it slower. AMG difinatively out classes.

    The GLB looks more like the previous gen GLA. i.e. Luxury Hooliganism in a hot hatch package. I like the looks of the old ones better for sure, but this new gen does the "sleeper" thing to a tee.

    In Europe we get more power from this engine in the GLA - 421hp :)

    • @derekcathcart9970
      @derekcathcart9970 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Believe you get the 45 and the 45s in most European countries. The 45s seems to burn a bit more fuel but is not actually a whole lot fast but is a lot more money..... so what is the value of the "power"?

    How come the GLA 45S and CLA 45S are not available in the US? Makes sens when these models are left out of the range in some countries but surely in the US the bigger the better so it would make sense to sell the top dog of each respective model.

      So, America has different restrictions, but I will say this, AMG Owners are invited to Driving courses where they learn about un-advertised abilities. Most people don’t know that the car drives itself! That leads to many legal jams if they do. Take for instance, Driift mode is un attainable and the dealer says it doesn’t exist, but, finding out the science behind how to get power to the back wheels and the 2 clutches and finding out that your car comes equipped with “Dynamic +”, well, a specific procedure is revealed to you, and viola, you are rotating your tires way more than what the factory suggests. And believe me, there are professional tunes that take the non S past 421 HP! It is all moot. THIS DAMN CAR FROM THE FACTORY IIS TRACKABLE. It is considered to be a track car. It just so happens to be a super sweet daily driver.

    • @dirkirsche4321
      @dirkirsche4321 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      At zero start… I agree. Ridicules Tubo lag. Any sub compact car naturally always comes off the line at street stops ahead of me,, and I have experimented with seudo launches. I hate that. Ive driven the AMG63’s and so impressed with the lag in the v8’s. My launches have a distinct bang explosion explosive acceleration and not appropriate for regular driving and so EVERYBODY always gets off the line faster than me in regular driving. 🤬

    Agree 100%. I’d take a GLB45s over a GLA45s. In fact I’d go so far as to say that I think the previous generation exterior with this new generation interior would be a better car than this new GLA.
    But hey, I think the 1st generation Porsche Panamera is beautiful so what do I know. :-)

    How much life will these engines have after 100k miles. AMG pulls every hp out of their engines ; can't upgrade since they are max.

    • @derekcathcart9970
      @derekcathcart9970 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      We have had 3 of the first series GLA45's (2015 in Italy that we still own | 2017 in USA that we sold after 18K miles when we moved to Canada | 2018 we took delivery of in July 2017 and recently traded the 2018 after 42K kms for the new series GLA45).... Our 2015 was a CPO car we bought with 6K kms and it is now about 150K kms. Other than routine maintenance (not cheap) and three sets of tires, the car has been "bullet proof" (i.e. 'no problems" and still a pleasure to drive, particularly on the Autostrada at high speed : ) ) . The MB dealer we use near Florence says we should expect at least 225K kms (about 140K miles) before any major component replacement and says they have a 2016 car with over 300K kms that has had little more than tires and MB recommended service intervals. In Toronto I speak regularly with other GLA45 owners who rave that the cars go like hell and "no problems'.
      Our AMG service advisor here in Toronto says he has seen no problems for any of the '45s he has processed, except for the person who ran his out of oil and the engine went while still under warrantee> advisor says MB Canada footed the repair bill thought they had no obligation. My sense is, if you look after these cars, the engine is not likely your problem but the rear differential could be (what the Florence dealer tells me they have replaced as some people do not want to pay for oil regular changes MB schedule calls for.

      I Own this year, make and model and want to say that not only is this car so much tighter than MM says, but breathtakingly Quicker too. It will get you into trouble. Many American reviewers also never bring up both quickness and speed, and this car is fast on top of the in human quickness. So for instance, some electrics do 0~60 in 2 seconds, but where they top out is terribly disappointing. 4 seconds is no time, and my car catches up and passes by when I reach 130 and I have another 40 more mph’s to dust them. People don’t realize though, at these quickness’s, You reach dangerous speeds so fast, and more and more cars are equipping rich guys that shouldn’t necessarily have that pwr on tap. Many times through ego I start a race on the hwy and at 125 ….,, If, and I know I can, I wanted to shut down that BMW or Audi, I’ll have too push past 155. And, on any hwy I’m on, That would be a speed that other drivers can’t anticipate. 99% of guys that would buy this car Polly have that ego.
