- The Mariner is rated Top 10 in Auckland. a big call, so we tried it out! How does it rate for Alby? And why do some blogs rate the more expensive fish and chip shops the highest?

Tepuke has the bestest fish and chips at Fresh Fish Market. I think it use to be called Bobby's seafoods or something and it has the bestest Paua fritters. Big huge ones!! And theres a fish market place down Mount maunganui on a back street i can't remember what its called or the street its on. And on Saturdays, it's only open till lunchtime and there is always heaps of people.

It's amazing that a lot of the expensive fish n chips is what is publicised about overseas. I think more props to the small chippys is needed

I imagine it's not easy doing what you do. Your honesty, can come across as rubbishing cooks. But it's not.

Hard times. But its price tag for fish n chips wouldnt have helped
lived in Auckland from 2000-2012. My job took me from Kaitaia to Cambridge, Coromandel to Awhitu and everywhere in between. Tried a lot of Fush"n" Chups in those 12yrs . Otahuhu Fisheries Ltd stands above everyone else in my opinion. 11yrs later I still drool over the "Aunties" cooking a massive feed out the back. The only place that comes near them is in "My Kitchen", cooked using beef dripping.....yum yum.

@@nepiahemopo1702Enjoyed many a good feed at Toby's, plenty of parking space for my truck was the standout feature. Don't agree that they're rubbish...or they weren't....but I would have them back in the pack with hundreds of other good F n C shops that we are blessed with throughout Aotearoa

North island is a rip compared to chch fish n chips in my opinion.
The few spots we hit were pricey as. But there are some gems around just couldn't get to them! Will do next tour of Auks and show ya 😎

NZ is a rip off for fast food. Portion size, taste, price are all terrible. You want to see decent fish and chips go to Britain. I refuse to buy fast food in this country any more. May as well put your money through a paper shredder.
The average cost of fish and chips in the uk is 9 quid so not really cheaper. Plus it irritates me when Poms moan yet chose to live here. Bit like when you all go to Spain and complain you can't get egg and chips.....no finesse
NZ has the some of the best seafood in the world, and the fish is second to none chap! It all depends where you go as to the price you pay, but on average in nz you can spend $45 on a pack that'll feed a family of 4 easily with leftovers, so wherever you went saw you coming 😂
