- They were THE Hollywood couple still going strong. But after 27 years of marriage, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness made a final curtain call on their relationship.. "to pursue their individual growth". The Australian triple-threat won the hearts of Hollywood. The entire world fell in love with the couple's high profile romance. Their's was a love story for the ages. The young aspiring actor grew fond of the star of the Aussie show 'Correlli'. Jackman and Furness met on the set in 1995, and he proposed four months later.
On April 11, 1996, Hugh and Deborra-Lee took their love to the next level, tying the knot in a beautiful ceremony surrounded by family and friends.
They adopted their son, Oscar, 23, in 2000, and their daughter, Ava, 18, in 2005. Their relationship had endured decades in Hollywood.
In 2012, when Hugh was hosting the Tony Awards, Deborra-Lee surprised him on-stage.
The pair hadn’t seen each other for four months due to Jackman's filming commitments, and Jackman was visibly emotional when accepting the award. The star would often gush about his love for his wife in interviews.
Two years before splitting, on their 25th anniversary, Hugh posted a tribute to his wife to instagram, saying: "Being married to you Deb is as natural as breathing. From nearly the moment we met ... I knew our destiny was to be together. In our 25 years - our love has only grown deeper. We’ve only just begun."
The pair were last seen in public together at Wimbledon, in July.
But then, on Saturday September 26, the news broke that beloved couple were separating.

@@bowtoyoursensei554 Been married 36 years here and spent months at a time living apart. Mostly do to job opportunities. We grew at the time, but never apart. I'm sure it'll happen again. The marriage staying together is not an issue if you want it to stay together, even if you live apart.

All I can remember is that media seemed to criticize their age gap and that she wasn't good enough for him. And now media are saying "Oh how sad, how can this be"..Probably pressure from not feeling good enough. I loved them as a couple.

Most couples eventually downsize, as they don't require so much space as the family grows and leaves home. However, they can still stay married. This split is so mysterious as Hugh and Dev seemed so in love, so supportive of each other, with both believing in marriage and family. To pursue "individual growth" is a cop out. Wonder if we will ever know the reason. I wish them both well, the are great people and were a great couple.

For me and my husband, 47 years married, 52 together. People do what they have to do, but a lifetime of marriage to one person is a kind of miracle that is unexplainable. You can't possibly understand the meaning of it until you have it. So I am sorry for those who have missed the experience - like the Jackmans -- but I trust that your lives will be as fulfilling in ways unknown to me.
Congrats, but I think in this case age had something to do with it. HUGH is a hunky 55 year old and she's almost 70. Different needs.
We are married 43 years, and have almost never been physically apart. We worked together in our business for 38 of those years, until we retired. We are blessed with a close relationship. But I understand that we are not the “norm”. Very much hoping that both partners will continue to be kind to each other after making this choice. People can be so mean with gossip!
My parents were married for 40 years, during their young ages I saw my father serve,care,provide to our family and love my mom truely, she is spoiled much I would say, 12 years ago my father was been sick , stoke, heart attacks almost 2x a year...my mom's turn to take care of him... and then I witness how she love him too during my dad's very low point...my father just died 2 months ago and I am thankful they never think of separating despite of all the trials in our family.... still hoping they can fix what is their problem no children would be happy seing their parents on separate ways...❤❤❤

27yrs is a long time to be married. He has publicly said he loves her in many ways. Looking at her she clearly adores him to bits. Whatever the reason it's sad to see these two go separate ways. Its sad for their kids and, no matter how old they are, it still hurts.

It isn't as uncommon as one might think for couples to stay with each other in rough times for the kids sake! And also same goes for empty nesters . Once kids are grown for them to move on! It's a sad thing for the family . For what ever caused the final split . You would think since they were not spending a lot of time under the same roof they didn't have time to fight but in the same respect ...a marriage even one of 25 yrs need work and nurturing every day! And if there's no work on the marriage it can fail ! I wish them both the best and hope they find the peace and happiness they both deserve!

Well I hope that they will get back together after a separation. And tha Hugh takes a break from acting and starts supporting Deb like the princess she is. She deserves it. I would say probably empty nest syndrome. My senior thesis was on child free couples vs couples with children. Empty nest couples tend to divorce more often. They have been parents for several decades and put their marriage to the side. Part of why I don't have kids.

my oldest sister was sleeping around on her husband for yrs they got married in 76 he divorced her in 98 after finding out from a source whom told him everything about her and my mum pointed this out as my sister son was born in 1980 he was 18 when they split mum said did u notice he divorced her after the son turned 18.......dont have to pay child support

27 happy years is a huge accomplishment. They can be happy for having such a loving relationship!
How can married couples, at that level, be apart for 4 months and then not even get the hint of the other one flying in-out of places and be able to 'surprise' each other? Either it was all scripted, which is almost 100% possible, in which case the entire lovelorn thing was all acting. Or the channel got the information wrong. Or they were already apart then and just continued the charade in public.

Why we all think doesn't matter, BUT I will still say why I think this happened. Deb probably wants to go back to life in Australia, n Hugh doesn't feel the same, 54. She older, 67 n wants to chill, n focus on her organization HOPELAND. He is still booking high-profile movies and has to travel a lot to promote. She is tired. They are at a crossroad n choosing their own individual journey. I believe they still very much love each other but more now as friends/parents to their children. Functioning as friends, not lovers. Also, I feel Deb pushes for the divorce because Hugh was always LOUD as hell about his love for her. Another thing Hugh stays fit, n Deb maybe can't keep up anymore with his fame. Mentally n phyiscally, there's a difference between them. 27 is a successful marriage. It's just ending n becoming a friendship

He always knew that she was playing a part in his life. He respected her for it. But it had nothing to do with the kind of love you think. It is a different love. A friend's love, at least from Hugh's side. And he was and still is grateful to her.

Separate but delay divorce for as long as you can. There is no love or bond like a real friendship. I suspect I can guess why this is happening but it’s truly sad. She would be a very rare occurrence in a lifetime. You can’t take that for granted.

Looks like they waited till their kids were old enough to split. The youngest now being 18. No need for custody negotiations, etc. They probably didn't want to destabilise their adoptive children.

I think these two people have loved each other from the time they met and will continue to love each other until the moment they depart. Separation of their marriage doesn’t necessarily mean something is wrong. Perhaps this is what they both decided they wanted for their futures. To discover other things on their own. Wrapped up in the fear of splitting, indecisiveness and procrastination, it is mostly found in first marriages. True love is virtually nonexistent but an irresistible fantasy to sing about or act about in showbiz. To gush about one's great love in public is a sign of ... and the prevalent death of Love. It's showtime!!
There it is. The one true statement here. All along the gushing, gushing, gushing alternated between wishful thinking and distraction. No other performer fills a show with such homages to a spouse; they are too respectful of their own privacy and of the audience. It will be interesting to see if “showtime”/act 2 is more honest and has better boundaries.

Frick. Of course, child support may be payable depending on what the children are doing. Often payable while kids are in university.
Child support? They have to financially support their children until they both have finished their education and be financially independent.
I doubt either one of them has an issue with paying child support whether the kid is 4 years old or 24 years old. The title of the video says this is why and nowhere in the video did they actually say this is why. Not that this any of our business.

It's interesting people are trying to figure out why they're splitting when they already stated why: "to pursue individual growth", that means they felf (or at least one of them), they couldn't support each others growth any longer, maybe they needed to separate in order to find their own path, maybe they (or one of them) felt stignated inside the marriage or outgrow their marriage.
