Hey guys! So as some of you suggested, I tried Ryzen Controller / Ryzen Adj to increase the TDP of this APU. I set it to 30W, temp limit to 85C and the GPU clock speed to a minimum of 900MHz. I tested GTA V with these settings, the GPU was running at 711MHz, occasionally dropping, but more stable than in the video. Temps were still fine, under 70C with the cooling pad and the system was a little bit unstable, it crashed twice over the span of half an hour. I then lowered the TDP to 25W and it was stable, however, I didn't see a major difference in the FPS, it was stuttering less but still getting 40-50 fps most of the time at the same settings. I also tried CSGO and got a similar experience to what I showed in the video, slightly less stutter, slightly higher FPS, but mostly between 50-70. If you want to try this, make sure you have a cooling pad and that the temperatures are under control, it'll deliver a more stable experience with less stuttering, but at least in the case of this laptop model, it didn't make a big difference because the GPU wouldn't boost higher.. I think these fill a spot for gamers who want a PC for work but good for older AAA games and emulation. The Ryzen APUs even a 2500u does really well. I play borderlands 2 at 1080p medium settings at 30fps. Other older games are good for this as well.
Yeah, it ticks those boxes for me. Seems on par with an old Nvidia GT 730 2GB low profile card I still have laying around. Games from the Xbox 360 era run maxed out on that card just fine. Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Just Cause 2, L4D2...run on max great. But don't bother with anything beyond that era.
It's actually impressive from an integrated graphic card, also the Vega 8 is gonna get amd fsr support so not bad at all. Also I like your content and comments on your benchmarks, keep it up!
I love how both him and random gamer went from testing budget stuff to see if it was still worth puchasing and now they are getting to the point were i wouldn't be surprised to see if can this potato run cyberpunk 2077
Did you try Ryzen controller? It allows you to adjust tdp limits set by the manufacturer. I had an HP 2 in 1 ryzen 2500u laptop which had a locked 15w sustained tdp, and I was able to get it to 28w without thermal throttling. It ended up being a 50-100% performance increase depending on the program.
Krysp! You can get a program called Ryzen Controller where you can adjust the TDP of the APU! I use it on my sister's laptop when she wants to play games haha.
@@lorenzojw04 I did, right after I saw your comment! Unfortunately it didn't do much, it improved everything slightly but the gpu was still at 711mhz. Stuttering was much better though. I guess the vrms are pretty bad in this one and can't handle much, because the PC crashed a couple of times at 30W TDP
i love your reviews. most people are trying to max out graphics etc, but you review ALL settings and ALL graphics cards which i love because we get to see how each graphics card is supposed to run and the best settings for it. Love seeing integrated graphics making such big strides.
There are a few apps out there for tuning Ryzen mobile chip. I had some people tell me about them on my Mini PC video; they don't seem to work on socketed AM4 APUs, but they should be worth looking at for laptops. RyzenAdj was one, IIRC.

There is some performance hit going on. I can confirm that vega 8 in gta 5 can give 50-60 fps on 1080p normal settings. And valorant gives 120-130 fps on 1080p
with the same cpu? dual channel or not? I'm planning to upgrade my laptop with same specs as on that video so I can have 16gb dual channel ram overall, think I can get better performance.
I play rdr2 at 540P (50% of 1080p) at 30 fps my laptop has superb cooling so I've also overclocked at 35 tdp which just gives a performance boost to 35 fps sometimes. Totally playable if u don't mind 30 fps
Of coarse, they have less specs and cost more for an added bonus thats a really a good one to be honest... Mobility. And imo its a really good tradeoff.

Late reply but I can vouch..I have a Dell with 12th gen i7 and Iris XE and it runs most new titles smoothly with some fidgeting and finagling..I've been completely surprised and impressed by it's performance.

I know your after his reply but you'll be perfectly fine man, you won't notice the drawbacks since it's only an i3. May I suggest going with the fastest i3 4170 if you can, Otherwise an i5 4690
8+4 dual channel RAM is absolutely ok. I have 12GB RAM with an i3-10100f and GTX 1650 Ti and it runs absolutely fantastic. But I suggest you to take advice from those who have better knowledge in this :)
i bought this laptop back in november before all the 4500u and 5500u laptops came to the uk, am gutted now because they have better performance but the 3500u is still a powerhouse nonetheless.

It somewhat is between value and performance, but I really think that in the coming years laptops with igpus are gonna get better let it be ryzen or Intel.
I've been running this laptop since 5/22/2020 and it has been pretty good overall, cpu clock runs up to 3.7 ghz if I try and get it up to that, in typical tasks it runs around 3-3.3 ghz. The IGPU and RAM speeds on the other hand are quite terrible. IGPU sits at 200-400 MHz, RAM sits at 900-1200 MHz. I have 16gb of ram rather than the 12 like yours, but otherwise it is the same. In most games I average around 60-80 FPS so it is fine overall. (My ram can clock up to 2400 MHz but I have no idea how to increase that it to that from 900-1200 because of HP's horrible bios.
The 2400 mhz is just a reading of double 1200mhz... the DDR in DDR4 stands for Double Data Rate, hence two times 1200mhz for DDR4-2400mhz. Your system is probably running 100% fine.
@@mahdiahmed7819 Yes of course if the laptop is thermal throttling like in this video. But in GPU intensive games, or with a high TDP (25W), the Vega 8 completely obliterates the UHD 630. And we are talking about the Laptop Vega 8.

To anyone considering a ryzen APU laptop > make sure you can upgrade the ram. Ryzen APUs make decent low spec gaming laptops as long as you've got enough ram. Before you ask, the right amount is the max your motherboard allows. Get over 16 GB and an ssd for best results.
Absolutely. The greatest thing to happen is all the people returning these laptops expected the best performance so I can pick them up open box for 1/4 of the price then upgrade the RAM and everyone being amazed that my laptop can do what it does. I got an HP with the 2200u and put 16GB of the fastest RAM it could handle and for a laptop, its great!

Hi Kryzzp, how about testing geforce now? Perhaps with some integrated graphics system? Might be interesting for people who are having hard time getting dedicated GPU now. If you can get full year membership for less than price of something like GTX 970, and use RTX and all the fancy features it seems like a good deal. What do you think?
Buddy, I had a Celeron N3060 and with GeForce Now, I could run every single game at max settings at 60+ FPS. Your system specs does not affect GeForce Now performance in any way, rather only your internet does.

You should install ryzen controller so you can give more power to the apu!! It can change a lot the performance. I have an athlon 300u and with the ryzen controller, I have unlocked the tdp and I can get the full 1ghz of the gpu!!
@@a_spire Look at benchmarks for yourself then, seems to me that the 3500u beats it in real world gaming performance: th-cam.com/video/plOQ6sY8WgQ/w-d-xo.html I would say that the 1065g7 however has a much better CPU, but a only slightly faster iGPU (which is weaker than a vega 10). Still though, Vega 8 is better in real world.
Its rather interesting to see how these apus run games, even tho where i am to get a apu system it costs like 600+ euro for a system like that but with single channel ram. Right now im trying to figure out how not to bottleneck a GT 1030.
You know, it's amazing sometimes how beefy one's hardware has to be for modern AAA titles. Back in the day, I had an AMD A8-3500M (Llano) which was AMD's first APU in my Acer craptop. I didn't have much as far as expectations go for the integrated Radeon HD 6620G but, to my shock and amazement, SKYRIM was playable. That craptop is still functional. Now, I have an ASUS Vivobook with an R5-3500U and while that Vega IGP is clearly not enough for modern games, I was lucky because this model had a discrete GeForce GTX 1050 which is no great graphics powerhouse but is far better than the Vega IGP. Having said that, I don't buy craptops for gaming, only for mobility. I have a gaming monster tower desktop hooked up to a 55" 4K TV for that. Real gamers use desktops, not craptops so the R5-3500U-based craptop was literally perfect for me. I did increase the RAM from 8GB to 16GB however.
Bought a used Asus Vivobook x512da last week to replace my dead desktop. It have the same specs, but it have 6Gb Ram (4 soldered on the board + 2Gb Stick) The main goal is to use for browsing the net, do office stuff and watch youtube videos and its pretty good. I'm not a hardcore gamer, so I only pay for fun so it's fine for me...the laptop was cheap so i don't complain :)
ok so basically all the games I want to play run good enough to play with friends and comp those games being Gta v, Csgo and R6 siege so thanks to this you friend for showcasing this laptop

I think the bottleneck its the Gpu Vega 8 cause every game you run, gpu are always to almost the max power and the cpu was a little bit sleepy, so i think the problems with APU its that is so dificult to get a nice equality between Cpu and Gpu

I have Vega 8 R53500U and Im using ryzen controller, you must set the long time boost time to 700 then it will work (60fps in war Thunder 1080p low)

Well the vega 5 from ryzen 3 4300u is the equal of the vega 10 from ryzen 7 3700u, there is a big improvement

No in 8gb ram gta 5 is around 25-40fps for me

For Cs go , the fps drop with 3 smokes on competetive will leave you playing at 40 fps or lower

Atleast you have a bios Dell Inspiron which I have don't even have a bios settings😅😅 so
I think even intel UHD 630 is better then vega 8 in laptops but vega 8 in desktop is very powerful then UHD 630

To anyone considering a ryzen APU laptop > make sure you can upgrade the ram.
Ryzen APUs make decent low spec gaming laptops as long as you've got enough ram.
Before you ask, the right amount is the max your motherboard allows. Get over 16 GB and an ssd for best results.
Absolutely. The greatest thing to happen is all the people returning these laptops expected the best performance so I can pick them up open box for 1/4 of the price then upgrade the RAM and everyone being amazed that my laptop can do what it does. I got an HP with the 2200u and put 16GB of the fastest RAM it could handle and for a laptop, its great!
@@KaiserXionTV dude these laptops aren't that good especially compared to intels newer chips most people aren't going to tear apart their laptop for marginal improvements.

Buddy, I had a Celeron N3060 and with GeForce Now, I could run every single game at max settings at 60+ FPS. Your system specs does not affect GeForce Now performance in any way, rather only your internet does.

You should install ryzen controller so you can give more power to the apu!! It can change a lot the performance. I have an athlon 300u and with the ryzen controller, I have unlocked the tdp and I can get the full 1ghz of the gpu!!
My friend has acer aspire 5 with ryzen 5 3500u and it's More powerful than my i7-1065g7 touching 110 degrees and runs under 1GHz

I would say that the 1065g7 however has a much better CPU, but a only slightly faster iGPU (which is weaker than a vega 10). Still though, Vega 8 is better in real world.

had a laptop with a fully boosted 4500u, zen 2 processor a generation after the 3500u. Played bfV on it @900p medium and got 40 fps surprisingly.

You know, it's amazing sometimes how beefy one's hardware has to be for modern AAA titles. Back in the day, I had an AMD A8-3500M (Llano) which was AMD's first APU in my Acer craptop. I didn't have much as far as expectations go for the integrated Radeon HD 6620G but, to my shock and amazement, SKYRIM was playable. That craptop is still functional.
Now, I have an ASUS Vivobook with an R5-3500U and while that Vega IGP is clearly not enough for modern games, I was lucky because this model had a discrete GeForce GTX 1050 which is no great graphics powerhouse but is far better than the Vega IGP.
Having said that, I don't buy craptops for gaming, only for mobility. I have a gaming monster tower desktop hooked up to a 55" 4K TV for that. Real gamers use desktops, not craptops so the R5-3500U-based craptop was literally perfect for me. I did increase the RAM from 8GB to 16GB however.

Bought a used Asus Vivobook x512da last week to replace my dead desktop. It have the same specs, but it have 6Gb Ram (4 soldered on the board + 2Gb Stick)
The main goal is to use for browsing the net, do office stuff and watch youtube videos and its pretty good. I'm not a hardcore gamer, so I only pay for fun so it's fine for me...the laptop was cheap so i don't complain :)

to unlock the tdp you must use ryzen controller then turn the tdp up to 30watt which will give the gpu 1300mhz and the cpu 3.7ghz

i got a 3500u asus and im liking it.. its not super fast for gaming but its better than most at this price
I think the bottleneck its the Gpu Vega 8 cause every game you run, gpu are always to almost the max power and the cpu was a little bit sleepy, so i think the problems with APU its that is so dificult to get a nice equality between Cpu and Gpu
