Fashion is seen as frivolous when it's done by women. A young woman who's passionate about fashion is superficial but a young man is creative. Having "good taste" as a woman is almost mandatory, whereas it's seen as an unexpected bonus in a man.

@@notnina7047 I don't have a tiny waist and my shoulders are slightly rounded, while my hips are straight, so I normally tend to choose practicality since visuals are not a strong point for me. I love long over coats because they're comfortable and elongates my vertical line. I wear a lot of blouses that are fitted and have a simpler style. I don't really go for bold or loud colors or patterns since my persona isn't flamboyant, I do like to use plenty of colors for painting tho :) I love boots that have a slimmer fit since my legs are somewhat chubby, so I can balance the look. I don't wear dresses because I don't find them comfortable and because I don't like shaving 😂 my style is somewhat similar to what you would see in an off duty model look. They are heavily influenced by Anthony Vaccerello's YSL and Hedi Slimane 's Celine, with a sprinkle of Tom Ford's Gucci days 🖤 since my skin tone is warm olive, I have to be careful about what I purchase.

My aesthetic is... all over. I seem to take bits and pieces like a magpie. Knee and thigh-high boots, chunky heels, midi skirts and dresses, mini skirts, stockings and garters, thigh-high socks, flowy blouses, leather jackets, fishnet, detailed lace bras as outerwear, fingerless gloves, etc. Soft-knit cardigans, trench coats, chains, lace, satin, fabrics that drape nicely, color is all over the place, beading and glitter. Yeah. No idea wtf that is and I kinda give up. But it looks good on me. I seem to look best in "odd" or "unusual" fashions. Don't know why. It's the *cut* that seems to be key for me.
Edit: thank you for all the likes and kind comments. It may seem dumb, but it really helps to know that there are people who like my style and it's not a total helpless clusterfuck.

I never feel comfortable in clothes unless they have an edge to them. They can be fully post punk goth or a YSL collection, if they don't have an alternative twist in them, I feel like I am not presenting myself inn a genuine way. In doing so I not only feel confident in myself but also feel happy with myself. Fashion is a way to cope with our identities and functions as a form of armor.

  • @maya_the_bee9294

I’ve always had a weird relationship with fashion and my taste in style. At first, i only seemed to dress to make a point, a statement. (It was ugly looking back at it, but I felt confident in it at the time). Then it went to more alternative roots, such as metal (leather jackets, black ripped jeans, combat boots, heavy black makeup etc). Then I grew a fondness for simple and elegant things, such as pastel dresses, pearl earrings, dainty necklaces, and simple diamond bracelets. Of course I rejected succumbing to this style because I was afraid of what others would think of me, of how I was once goth who turned into a goody two shoes. Later, I found alternative music (that wasn’t thrash or death metal), and was leaning more towards Nirvana, Alice In Chains, foo fighters, Smashing pumpkins, etc. Then I settled for my version of the ‘in between’ of those two styles that I loved.
Now, I settled for flannels, mom jeans, cardigans, boots, and no makeup. Ive had this style for almost a year now, and I still feel as confident in it as I did the first time I put a flannel on.
Point is: style changes. You shouldn’t be embarrassed about your previous style(s) simple because you don’t like it now. You should wear whatever your confident in.

I have such a love for fashion and it has changed all throughout my life. As a child and teenager I was always drawn to pastels and graphic tees. In early childhood I just let my mother dress me but my the time I was 6 or 7 I wanted to dress myself I was drawn to matching sets and I even made up my own looks such as layering a skirt on jeans (thought I was so cool lmfao) sort of a girly tomboy style. I experimented throughout my teens with different looks: had a phase of wearing mostly blacks, whites and greys, for a short time got really into street wear/athleisure mostly to fit in with peers and by the end of high school settled on a playful hippie look with lots of denim, lace, florals, brown shoes/bags and soft graphic tees with animals on them. I had that aesthetic for a number of years like the bohemian look but never too over the top.
It wasn't until recently, at 26, that I really started to define and refine my style. Got really into capsule wardrobes and color palettes. What inspired it was my new interest in minimalism, wanting to look more mature/taken more seriously (I have a young looking face) and entering the administration field working in an office for the first time. For now my style has neutral colors: blacks, whites, creams, greys and browns that go with everything but still plenty of color in the same color family so they pair well together: I chose red so essentially rich burgundys (yes I just made up that word) and pastel pinks. Yes, I've embraced more classic colors like now my closet is mostly neutrals but I still keep those fun expressive elements of my youth through pattern (stripes, florals, plaid and polka dots) and texture (lace, denim and satin). So my style has become more timeless/classic but still having elements the soft girly hippie aesthetic I'm still drawn to 😊
This video was very interesting thank you!

If I could describe my style, I’d describe it as being either very polished punk at times, or very rugged and grunge. I love taking things that are perceived as very polished and combining them with a more alternative, punk style.. think a fitted blazer with lace up gloves, a spiked choker and maybe a dark smokey eye with baggy jeans & combat boots to match. On the other hand, the more grunge & rugged side of me loves to dress down. I like taking very loose, baggy silhouettes and combining them with things that are more form fitting. I also love taking inspiration from different subcultures such as 90s goth - and more alternative styles which evolved in the 2000s. One thing I also LOVE doing is taking things that I see from the runways of brands that really inspire my style a lot (old vivienne Westwood, vehements, Saint Laurent) - and interpreting them into my own way. I wouldn’t say one style or aesthetic fits me, although many people do describe my style as being very grunge/punk - with a touch of glam rock. Fun, colorful accessorize always add to the look.

I'm attracted to "anti-fashion" designers such as Yohji Yamamoto, Maison Margeila, Demna Gvasalia, and Rei Kawakubo. I grew up on a reservation and in the DIY punk/metal scene. The antithesis of fashion to me is to assault the status quo, and rebel against the current aesthetics. Ugly is beautiful to me. :(:

my style is pretty firmly grunge.. very oversized clothing, both in tops and bottoms. distressed, sometimes diy, and always secondhand. long skirts, interesting graphics, lots of layers, and all textures must absorb light instead of reflect it. i like to present in an androgynous way, so it’s actually frustrating to need to wear something tight. i like creating my own boxy silhouettes. my interest in this aesthetic began because of my own dissatisfaction with my body, but it has morphed into so much more. i don’t dress in grunge because i hate my body anymore; rather, i dress in grunge for comfort and confidence. it’s truly how i feel inside, and it’s how i feel all clothing should be :D

Fashion as an industry often takes what is already culturally practiced, which I think is what the philosopher was saying about the "eternal return." For Vogue to claim they "discovered grunge" is beyond ludicrous. It's not because fashion is "ahead of its time," it's because the industry takes something a "minority," or "subculture," or "everyday woman" already does, and takes it to lofty extremes. Which is fine, artistically speaking, but then to suggest you actual INVENTED IT? Please. Only a handful of designers (Rik Owens, Rei Kawakubo, Alexander McQueen, arguably Thom Browne, etc.) have actually INVENTED things. They say "grunge" as if it has nothing to do with music. What's next, Vivienne Westwood never met Siouxsie Sioux? Karl Lagerfeld designed an entire Fendi haute couture collection inspired by a forgotten illustrator from centuries ago. He didn't even claim to "invent anything."

There is no message to the video, listen closely and it’s a bunch of pretty words saying absolutely nothing of substance. Just do what I do and enjoy the pictures.

hello and thank you for your videos. the content is very very interesting, I want to watch everything. Unfortunately, this is almost impossible - due to your speaking manner and tone, with no pauses, no voice building. It is so hard to follow the story, because no emphasis, no accents can be recognized in the story telling. such a pity.

All of her videos are like this. You watch them and then at the end you’re like, “what did I even watch?” I’m never sure what her point is.
